  1. Tenguko opposite Dhara Dhevi for a great treat ...Fuji works for a regular run too smile.png

It should be Tengoku Restaurant. It is a little pricey but the quality is undeniably good! Their Salmon sashimi is unresistable for several servings if you opt for the a-la-carte buffet.

Fuji serves pretty decent quality Japanese food but imo not that worth the price. Tsunaimi has very good value for money menu spread!

  2. If your intention to purchase a smartphone is to use it for couple of years, go for the latest model if possible. This is because, the rate at which new smartphones are launching, the older models get obsolete pretty fast. Should you, for any reason, opt to get an older model, do not attempt to upgrade the software when prompted to do so. This will slow down the operation of your phone. The new software require more RAM in order to function well, and your old model smartphone normally has lesser RAM than the new model that comes with a new software. Most applications can still be used even if you do not upgrade the developer's new software.

As for 4G in Chiang Mai, I do not think it works as good as in Bangkok and in other countries. Unless you are certain you can get a downloading speed of more than 30 mbps, then it is worth to get it. In other countries, most subscribers can get downloading speed of at least 50mpbs and up to 100 mpbs in the city area.

Next is the data cost. While you enjoy the fast downloading speed of 4G data network, the way your data gets used up is like a water buffalo drinking water in the field. Depending on how often you surf and your surfing contents, a 4G data network can cost you 3-4 times your current data usage. If you stream videos, it will be much much more.

  3. I went today to get a residency certificate and to clarify about the 500bt.

the guy asked me for 500bt. I said no its free.

He then pointed out the clarification on the printed notice in his office.

It says free only if you have non immigrant visa.

If you have tourist visa it is 500bt.

Tourist Visa for how many days? 30, 60 or 90? Or regardless?

  4. Earlier, I have a Toyota Vois 1.5A for sale. Someone offered me a (low) price and settled with full payment in Toyota Leasing. Toyota Leasing accepted the full payment with 50% rebate in interests, and said require two transfers, from Toyota Leasing to myself to buyer. One of the document required by Land Transport for the transfer (from Toyota Leasing to myself) is a Residence Certificate. As I am bound to leave Thailand for good, I did not renew my Non-Immg B visa, and thus, getting a Residence Certificate is not possible from Thailand Immigration.

Why can't they transfer ownership of the vehicle direct to the buyer? I am now stuck as I can't produce a Residence Certificate for the transfer, and till date, nothing is done. The buyer wanted to cancel the purchase agreement although he has paid the amount in full. The car is sitting in the garage of the used car seller's premise where my car is on consignment. What can I do?

    A worried individual.

  5. it seams to me she was concerned about the revenue from tourism and the negative effect it could have on the economy should tourism suffer, NOT what Tourists think

"... tourism and international communitys confidence in Thailand."

She needs to worry about what is really detrimental to the Thai people and Thai confidence in Thailand before she worries about what tourists and the international community think.

You know that right now is the month for Tourism and yet you chose this time of the year to the amnesty bill?
  6. Dragon Air isn't that pricey. It's still cheaper than flying on any airlines via Bangkok!

I'm wondering what would happen if China and Thailand struck that visa-free deal.

For the dates i got on Airasia for B2800 return ( which i know is just a promotion fare) ,Dragon air would charge B12,840 .So Dragon Air are not cheap and they will have to start reviewing their prices i think .

You are very lucky to get the B2800 return promotion fare. I saw it yesterday at 6pm+ and when I decided to book it at 8pm+, I only managed to get B3026 for the return fare. The only date available for the B1290 CNX-HKG fare now is on 10 Jan. For those who is planning to travel on this date, act fast!

  7. Hi Folks,

Earlier this year, I had a Non-B Biz Visa for six months to stay in Thailand. Subsequent extension did not work out, hence, since then I have been on back to back 30-day visa exempt entry stamp. Been doing this for couple of months and I thought its time to opt for a better option before trouble finds me. I have few more years before reaching retirement age.

After consulting a Visa Company, seems that getting a ED visa is the best option for me. I was told, if approved, I can get a 15 month Non-B ED Visa. The first visa which I will get is only for three months and I can get it extended at local immigration for another three months, followed by a nine months extension, is this correct?

Which Thai Embassy is the least hassle to get a ED visa? As in no question asked assuming all paper works are correctly submitted? I was told to do it in Laos, KL or Singapore.

I am also holding a Temporary Thai Driving License which will expire early next year. Can I apply for another five years extension using the ED visa?

Hope. I can get as much info from fellow people before I embark into action.

  8. I obtained my one year Thai Driving License sometime this year with a Non-B visa valid for three months together with other relevant documents. When due for renewal for 5-year license, do I need a Non-B visa to renew it or a 3-month Tourist visa will do?

Side track a little, I got a fine ticket for illegal parking on a side road and I didn't see any fine indicated on the ticket. How much is the fine and where can I pay it? DLT? Any implication on future renewal of license?

  10. Anyone subscribed to home satellite TV can recommend a good one? How much is the installation fee and monthly subscription, if any? I made enquiry for DTV, it has one-time installation fee of 3,500 and most of theirm100 over channels are Thai with 2-3 English channels. What about True Vision? Do they have channels like HBO, Fox, Discovery English channels? How much does it cost?

  12. Money no object - 4 Seasons & Mandarin Oriental Sunday Brunch...very great seafood hotel buffet ambience and service excellent

Can you let us know how much exactly is the seafood buffet in these two hotels? How is the spread (seafood) compared to Le Meridien? And yes, for the time being, money no object.

  13. I am currently into my second 90 day Non-B visa which will expire in July. I got my first back home and my second from Kuala Lumpur. My Company was set up less than six months, I have a work permit till July and I am one of the Director of the Company together with two other Thai shareholders. Things don't work out too well and I am contemplating to do the following:

    1. I want to cancel my work permit and cease to pay my income tax and the social security of my four Thai employees. Once these are effected, does my Non-B visa still valid? Can I remain in Thailand till July?

    2. What does it take to cancel the work permit? Any problem if I do it myself than through an agent? How much does it cost if I do it myself and fees payable to the agent? Do. Really have to cancel the work permit?

    3. Can I leave my Company intact rather than closing it? Must I remove my name from the Company? Or can I sell it to someone else at a price less than the entire set up?

    4. I want to stay in Thailand for a couple of years till my retirement age, what are my options? Is Ed visa the best option? Will I get it without any issue since I already have two non-B visa stamps in my passport.

Bottom line is I want to transit from Non-B to another visa and remain in Thailand for a few years at the least costs.

  14. Is the display still at Big C Hangdong? I would like to drop by to check out, seeking glass sliding windows and doors for my studio unit.

Anyone has good, reasonably priced contractors to recommend for renovation work? Thanks in advance.

  15. Thanks all!! If Global doesn't have the Samsung, then I'll go straight to Siam TV for a Haier, unless someone comes up with a better deal before tomorrow.

Don't ever get anything from Siam TV, the after sales service sucks big time! The AC installer was unprofessional, rude and with poor attitude! I will never ever get anything from Siam TV which is quite a shame as the you will find the store carries almost all of the electrical appliances which you want.

  16. I will say that she could have avoided all this by having multiple copies of the same outfit, and therefore she can look fresh without looking like she changed cloths. Like I believe most other politicians do in the more developed countries.

Most politicians in developed countries have multiple copies of the same clothes to look 'fresh'? :) Really?

If she does this, the news will be "Yingluck slammed for wearing one clothe to attend four events in one day which disgrace Thailand"!

Whatever she does, people will pick up a line on her, so don't bother!

  17. What can we do for those where there is no consulate in CM, only an Embassy in Bangkok? The Residence Certificate will cost more that its costs plus return air ticket, and one night hotel stay if the certificate cannot be issued the same day!

I have never heard of an embassy in Thailand that requires you to show up in person for a residence certificate. What embassy is this?

Really? You mean we can write an email to or call the Embassy to request for a Residence Certificate and they will send to our resident, at a cost of course? I have never request a Residence Certificate from the Embassy before, and I thought we need to apply in person the way we do it in CM Immigration.
