It s possible to be a guarantor on a loan to your wife.

We had a mortgage and my wife was a housewife looking after the kidsvso no salaried income. They lent to her guaranteed by me based on my income. I did have a work permit and work in Thailand though.

Different banks have different credit approvals and underwriting standards but it should be possible even if your income is from overseas to be a guarantor.

Thai banks do have their own internal scorecards for lending which they will use to assess your application. They wont tell you what score you get. However if turned down you arr entitled to know why.

They ll be interested in things like your wife s history with the bank, your wife s general credit history they can access from the national credit bureau NCB, her income, expenditure etc. They will look at key ratios like DSI debt service to income ratio.

Depending on all that they will consider whether they want you as a guarantor and will take your financial situation into consideration.

So there s no clear cut yes or no you can see beforehand if your wife is a little short on meeting requirements. You ll only get your answer from the banks you approach. It s possible though.

    Cheers

    Fletch :)

May I ask you which bank that was?

You can apply for an appointment online to get the re-entry permit at Chaeng Wattana immigration. You still have to get the re-entry permit stamped in you passport there.

Link to do the application. https://extranet.immigration.go.th/qrepsonline/online/queue/REPSAction.do?cmd=term

You can also get it at either airport in Bangkok on departure from the country.

Thanks Joe but this site stopped working a long time ago. It still says : For further information regarding Re-Entry service, please contact the Immigration Branch Office in your residence area.

Looks like Kerry is a huge DISORGANIZED company.

I ordered the item on June 30 and it was dispatched on July 2 and received tracking number and picture of the package.

Since July 4 it shows as being at the Shenzen international hub on a particular Kerry express tracking site, but it doesn't show at all on the Main Kerry Express tracking site. Anyway the package hasn't moved since July 4.

I contacted Kerry Express Thailand by phone and they don't find any trace of the tracking number, in short it isn't in their system, but it shows on one of their websites as being motionless in Shenzen.facepalm.gif

I send them an email through their website, but the email keeps bouncing with the message the mail box is full and can not accept anymore messages.

The latter says a lot about the amount of complaints they receive in my opinion.

Useless company. Tracking doesn't work, by the time it's updated you already have the package. They always call to ask where they have to deliver the package. I always refer to the condo name and address on the parcel and the answer is always that the parcel is in the back of the truck and they don't want to take it out. They just have a list with a street name and a phone number. It's on a main 6 lane road in Bangkok so it's really easy to find. I prefer them to just drop it of at our reception. I had a package with food from phuket to bangkok floating around their system for a week before they send it back. according to the tracking system they called me 3 times and I didn't pick up but the sender forgot to write down my phone number so the actually never called. Useless company

  4. I want to change employer but I can't be a single day without a valid work permit.

My first thought was to apply for a 2nd book but I read in previous posts that if I remain within the same province this is not possible.

And that I can only add my new job to my current work permit if I get approval from current employer.

My current work permit can be cancelled on the day the new work permit becomes valid as long as I don't miss a single day with a valid work permit.

I was advised by colleagues not to inform my current employer that I'm planning to change jobs before the new permit is ready because the owner can be very vindictive and can show very irrational behavior.

Any idea how to handle this?

  5. Don't forget the trainloads of plastic rubbish they buy for monks to receive blessings they need for 'good luck', and the huge pollution caused once a year by kratongs carrying plastic flowers and shit that end up in all the rivers.

A true Buddhist does not pollute the earth.

Our condo on the chaopraya river provides krathongs for all residents but it's made of coconut shells, leaves and flowers. I did notice a few staples being used to hold it together, no plastic though.

  6. They absolutely have a pupose in pattaya immigration. Buying, selling and drivers license.

Probably depends on a place where one obtains RC.

I went to immigration in BBK and was told to go to my embassy as they couldn't provide me RC because I don't do 90 days reports. My (Canadian) embassy asked me what I need the RC for (vehicle purchase) and gave me the appropriate document stating it was for the vehicle purchase. While at the embassy, I met another Canadian who needed RC for DL and his document said it was fit the DL.

    Thanks for all the replies!

The seller is facing the same problem. Chaeng wattana Immigration doesn't provide RC because of the 90 days reporting. Department of transport request a RC for selling the bike. My secretary explained the situation but they say it's not their problem. The German embassy won't give an RC because he's still registered in Germany. The old RC the seller obtained before at Chaeng Wattana when he still had a work permit stated clearly for what purpose it was issued. I will try and see if a bike shop can help with this else it's going to be a never ending story. I will share the way to do it once it worked out. In the mean time if someone has any more ideas or experiences please share as well.

  7. Seems really easy but when we came to buy a bike the foreign owner signed the green book, signed the transfer document, gave us signed copies of passport and a letter of residence.

When we went to transfer the bike the transportation department told us the letter of residence was a copy and it stated in Thai that this document is issued for applying for a drivers license NOT selling a bike.

WE asked for a new letter of residence and when he got back to us he told us that his embassy would not supply this letter because he's registered in his home country.

Also immigration would not supply this letter because the new requirement requires you to do 90 days reporting which he can't do because he's on a multiple NON ED visa. Has to leave withing 90 days anyway.

Has anyone got a clue how the owner can sell his bike?

Looking for genuine help! Please spare me answers like bring the bike back and get money returned.

  8. Does anybody know where I can find the new rules for the letter of residency?

I searched on Thai visa and immigration website but I can't find it.

    Thanks for the information.

Anybody know if there's somewhere to get photos taken (near) there? Also, last time I renewed 5-year driving licences (car & motorbike), the transport office took just one letter and a photocopy, not two original letters. Anyone know if this is still the case?

    Thanks.

I was there yesterday, yes that is still the case. get there early now as the queues have to be seen to be believed. You will be there at least half the day.

Thanks DN. I think I know why the queues. Rules for getting licences change next month, apparently. Oh well, not much choice.

  9. For the last couple of months we have frequent problems when cooking rice. Sometimes it's like sticky rice or even with half the water we normally use it still becomes soggy rice. Even my wife doesn't understand what's going on. We tried several brands. I guess the rice is mixed with old pledging rice or something like that. Does anybody know a brand of rice that is safe? Maybe a brand that does its own milling or something.

  10. The also used to serve an awesome face open half size baguette with lots of pesto and melted mozzarella dripping off of it. This was at Nana's.

Does anyone remember how awesome the burgers were at Woodstock back when they used to be on the second level of Nana Plaza? Now it's Rainbow (insert number here).

Those were by far the best burgers I've ever had in BKK... never had one as good since.

Tried it at their new location off Tonglor, but it's not the same.

    *sigh*.... memories.....

  11. This morning I read in a famous Thai English newspaper that the people have been asked to boycott products on a list that are linked to the Shinawatra clan as part of the eradication process this thread started with. I'm really curious which companies are on that boycott list but so far I haven't seen any list. Does anyone know if this list is real or not?
