  1. Whilst we are all sad about the loss of life, let us be thankful that London has a lot of very lucky people alive and well today.

A crane driver who was late for work for the first time in years.

A lorry driver who was held back by traffic lights and who knows how many more.

That it didn't hit the supermarket or train approach etc.

Two dead and one critically injured plus a few others with minor injuries.

Oh wow, just how much worse could it have been.

RIP the two dead and get well soon to the injured.

Condolences to their families and friends.

More likely a crane driver that has never been caught for being late for the first time in years!!

Not making light of the situation however and as you have said it could have been a lot, lot worse.

Personally, in those conditions I don't think I would have been going up in a helicopter unless it was an emergency anyway!!

What amazing conjecture and why the need to make it?

The area was clear of fog at 07:40 according to reports and it came on them suddenly and without warning.

    Go watch Bambi.

    Touchy!

I really can't be arsed getting into a slanging match, like I say, I weren't making light of it.

  3. Doncaster Rovers take on Stevenage today after losing Dean saunders to wolves this week .He is about the most unpopular manager that Doncaster have had for a long time and will not be missed by most of the supporters,Brian flynn is the caretaker manager for the time being.Well done also to Coventry city on a fantastic result this week against a massive club like PNE.

Ha ha I take it that's sarcasm but I don't care, one step closer to Wembley!

I was 7 when we won the FA cup and my Old Man didn't take me. The bastard. Not that I'm still bitter or anything.

Cov have not finished in the top 6 of ANY league in 40 odd years and with all our off field problems a day out a Wembley would certainly go some way to giving us a little back!

Even if it is just the JPT!!!

  4. Cov were 2-1 down with 92 minutes gone last night in the JPT and came back to beat Preston 3-2 in an amazing last couple of minutes!!

A two legged final (Northern dsection) against either Crewe or Bradford and then, whisper it quietly, maybe a trip to Wembley.

Back to reality this weekend though...............away at Carlisle. laugh.png

  5. Thanks for all your help folks. I will look at all of these options. I recognise that a 2 month let is more problematic - but it is what we will be looking for probably.

We would use an agency if we had to, but one of the reasons I posted here was because it may be that someone knows someone who would give us a short-let while they are away or if they have a rental empty for a couple of months. Also, we might book a week in a hotel and just look for something when we arrive - I'm not keen on committing myself to a place and a location without actually seeing it first-hand.

Thanks very much for the heads up about the smoke. I had read a comment somewhere else about that, but wasn't sure when it was. We don't have to come to Chiang Mai at that time; but it is a place that we thought would suit our needs for the moment. May well think again.

Thanks also for the info about locations; I will get the map out an look in more detail.

Really appreciate the help. Many thanks. Sorry not to reply more frequently but we're having a busy week and I haven't logged in as much as I usually would.

This is exactly what we did, hired a bike and just rode round visiting a few places. Varying prices and standard of accomodation but we got sorted (and fell on our feet) within a couple of days.

    Good luck.

  6. dad and i used to have a soft spot for coventry, mum was a coventry girl, that night with a spurs side never beaten at wembley, mum went to bed sure they would lose, but for that man bennett it would have been a top night.

mum, went out with cloughies offsider mr taylor, who was playing for coventry (reserves i think),one date only,he was an octopuss she said.

yeah TBH no one expected coventy to win , spurs were laden with top draw players and were duly running rampant 4 the first 25? min and should really have had the game sealed. ive heard david pleat saying he sort of blames himself for the defeat,he said he failed to notice how much that man Bennett and co were exposing and grinding our lhs down in particular our full back mitchell thomas , he said he should have noticed it and he reckoned if he'd had,and sorted it we probably wouldn't have lost. but hey ho thats life

As for goerge curtis, for holidays bac in the day my folks used to rent the same caravan for ?? years and george's parents rented next door at the same time, george would play or train?, 4 Coventry then come down for a few days, but his younger sister was always there, can still remember the first snog on the beach well !!!

One Gary Mabbutt, one Garry Mabutt!

On paper you should have destroyed us as the talent in your team was phenomenal..............however, we put in a proper teams performance and grinded out a superb win it what will be the only major success we have in my lifetime!!!!!!!

£20 quid a ticket at your place for this one and only £21 on the rattler return so there will be a fair few Cov making the trek for this one.

good luck to the sky blues, the sky blues greatest day that cup win, hope things will get better for the club

    Thanks.

Although, things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better.

Even rumours of SISU moving us out of the Ricoh to play in Rushden and Diamonds ground due to the arguments with ACL (who own the Ricoh) regarding the rent and non-payment of it.

Think it's out of us and Portsmouth who go tits up first!!

  8. I recommend to anyone the restaurant out in the sea. Think it's name is Baan Ploy and it's the opposite side of the port to the main beaches etc.

You ring a bell on the shore side and they said over a little row boat on a pully then pull you across to the restaurant that is on stilts out in the sea. You climb up and then inside you sit on the floor and dangle your legs through a gap in the floor above the sea.

The fish are all in pens at the back and you can choose which ones you want to eat and then they kill them and cook them fresh there at very reasonable (for a Farang) prices. A unique dining experience.

Have to say I usually stay on Malibu when I'm there and it is one of my favourite places in Thailand for a few days.

  9. I have nothing to do with him but you would be hard pushed to beat the value of Pedr's Xmas Lunch at Ye Olde Belle Ende, although it's plated, not a buffet if I remember.

Yeah went here for Xmas dinner a couple of years ago and it was decent scran.

  10. Me and the missus stayed for 2 months in Nakornping Condo on Ratchaphuek Road just off Huay Keaw Rd.

We rented directly through a Thai wife of a German chap who was back home and it was a great little place to live (think they do rent directly though).

Swimming pool (although it was <deleted> freezing), good little location with the Supermarket over the road and various bars and restaurants all within a 10 minute walk and if not hop on a Songthaw into CM central.

Plenty of other condos around that area as well.

  11. Just looking for a bit of info on a few ex-pats who were/are living in Kanchanaburi?

Is Big Jimmy still alive? He'd not longer had a heart attack last time I was there and although he'd lost a good bit of timber didn't look in the best of health.

    Irish Sean still there?

Blackpool Ray? Know he was having a bit of troubles just wondering what happened?

The other New York Jimmy who hated big Jimmy?

Couple of lads from Coventry, Muzz and forget the other chaps name!

    Cheers

    LG
