I do exactly as you want to. Jing is correct. No limits, as long as you have a lease in place when you want to renew.
good point - so, just staying in hotels won't cut it ?

No limit except if you wish to apply for a new retirement extension you will need to be in Thailand before the current one expires.
Noted - thank you..

Once my non-O retirement visa and multiple entry permit is established, how many months a year can I spend outside Thailand and still maintain the visa or extension as the case may be ?
The reason for the question is that I want to spend about half the year in Thailand, but the other half in neighbouring Asian countries travelling. The sIx months or so in Thailand would not necessarily be in one block.
My thinking is that if I try to do this with tourist visas I have an annual time in country limit to adhere to. I am happy to comply with all aspects of the retirement visa including the 800k in a Thai bank.

Why does a Thai family need to have a gun in the house ?
This is one area where following the lead from the USA is definitely not a good idea !

or in this case minding your own business, but having the audacity to not wear a mask while sitting alone on the beach. We should all respect Thai peoples feelings about the virus and wear a mask, however, to be physically assaulted as a first response, rather than saying 'put on your mask' rather reverses who was being an <deleted>. There is a wider issue here as well, about how easily Thai men in groups think nothing of attacking foreigners.

This equates to 'Learning to live with Covid' how exactly? ????????
Variants will continue to crop up at inconvenient and unexpected intervals, this what we must learn to live with - and the associated restrictions will ease up and then tighten up again - ‘Living With Covid’

So you don’t know what this is about, you have no idea of the back story but still feel compelled to comment ?
These are people who were ripped off by a bank employee offering a product he pedaled as being from K bank & transactions took place inside the bank.
I am very interested to know the full story. So, it was a bank employee offering a product that was not actually offered or endorsed by the bank, but he did this 'business' on bank premises. I would suggest the bank's liability would commence the moment they knew about the employee doing this and what action they then took. Prior to that, how can the bank be liable for an employee committing something fraudulent that they have no knowledge of and never endorsed ?

Start here:
If they could truthfully tell the public that the Covid vaccines stop transmission of Covid in its tracks, ends contagion, and paves the path to a return to a full Old Normal society where Covid has been eradicated? Most people including myself would be lining up.
But that's not the case. Here is what the population is told:
"The Prime Minister has expressed satisfaction with Thailand’s vaccination rollout and its vaccine regimens that can help reduce severe symptoms and deaths from COVID-19."
The CDC, WHO, and other health agencies no longer claim that vaccination stop transmission or contagion (I personally know people fully vaccinated with mRNA shots who were extremely ill), they are not 'sterilizing vaccines', as such they promote immune escape, the so called "protection" wanes in a short period of time (less than 6 months) and boosters will be required forever - and even if 100% of the population is vaccinated - this never ends and there will never be any going back to Old Normal.
Oh - and then the increase risk of coronary damage: https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/abs/10.1161/circ.144.suppl_1.10712 <shhhh> Perfectly healthy, fully vaccinated footballers and athletes keeling over with heart issue don't help picture. That wasn't happening prior to Covid vaccine rollout. Of course it can be argued that correlation isn't causation - but tell that to the average citizen who simply sees what they see. Oh - and the perception that the Thai government habitually lies to its citizens (I've no dog in that fight, but I live with Thais and know their views). And when the government reaches a Covid milestone, they move the goalposts:
(70% vaccinated and we'll have herd immunity; 95% vaccinated and we'll have herd immunity; herd immunity is impossible so 100% need to be vaccinated) or
(The vaccines will stop transmission and contagion, the vaccines will stop you from getting sick, the vaccines "can help reduce severe symptoms and deaths.")
So what changes next? Keep pushing those goal-posts.
My guess is that the government will eventually go full coercion: "Get the shot or we will lock you in your homes and then hunt you down house by house and jab it into your arms." Although not publicized on main-stream news, there are currently massive protests globally pushing back against the authoritarian approach that is beginning to rhyme with totalitarian. And in Thailand there will be a sub-set of the population who will probably explode if it comes down to forced vaccinations. Just saying.
The question being asked is "Why are people refusing to get the shot?" Well, there's an answer from someone who will only take the shot under duress. I'm sure there are more reasons than that. People have their own reasons. Mine actually has more to do with my innate distrust of any institutions that seek to silence and censor any and all voices in the scientific community who don't accept the single narrative proposed by the CDC, WHO, and other EU agencies all of which are revolving doors between government regulation and pharmaceutical corporations. Foxes in the hen-house.

In the meanwhile I suggest that the PM read the following old fable by a wise fellow named Aesop. Just that would probably give him a good start toward what he wishes to know.

must have felt good to get that off your chest ????

It's time for the stick approach now. The carrot approach and explanations as to why people need to be vaccinated has run it's course. All those people are now vaccinated. The remaining recalcitrants need the proverbial stick applied applied to their nether regions to bring them into line with what the community expects of them. If they still choose not to be vaccinated it's absolutely time for ostracism. No access to any public areas including gyms, cinemas, shopping centres, condominiums. They can live like lepers outside the city areas and buy their food at designated roadside stalls. No further extensions to any type of visa's to the unvaccinated needs to be implemented ASAP.

vaccinated people can carry the virus just the same as unvaccinated people - totally incorrect as many other have already pointed out and I will reiterate. Vaccinated people can carry the virus, but are far less likely to contract it in the first place. This is really not difficult stuff, it's about protecting yourself and your fellow citizens - get jabbed !

And to all the deniers that will say that the vaccinated can also get the virus and pass it on, just look at the numbers look at the recovery and death rates and look at the symptoms.
hear hear - the PC statement that both vaccinated and unvaccinated can carry and transmit the virus is true, however, the unvaccinated are far likely to contract the virus and pass it on. Also, the unvaccinated are a far greater burden on the health system than the vaccinated. It's not about personal choice, it's about the unvaccinated taking up valuable ICU spots that could have been prevented. Singapore agrees that it is a personal choice to be vaccinated or not, and they now do not cover the unvaccinated in their national health scheme if they contract Covid.

the lease requirement may be a stumbling block for me. My intention is to stay in cheapish hotels on monthly rates when I'm in Thailand. I doubt they will provide a lease that immigration may need.
