I'm going through this now with Phuket immigration. I have a year's worth of Wise transfers (selected the correct option in the app), all marked as 'Foreign T/T' in my bank statement. The officer refused to accept it, told me I needed a credit advice slip for each transfer, or a summary of foreign transfers, from Bangkok Bank. The guy in line before me also had the same issue. It has taken another week to obtain this from the bank and my visa expired today, yay...

Our immigration visit earlier this year was pleasant enough. However they did let it be known that two coffees and "money for gas" were to be ready when they arrived...
They didn't touch the coffee. The 500 baht on the other hand...
Before leaving, one of them tried chatting up my wife's sister without much success.

I love Chiang Mai, I lived there for many years, but I left 3 months ago for the south. There's only so many burning seasons I could get through before asking myself "what the hell am I doing to my health?". It's not worth it. I should have moved sooner to be honest, but glad to be away from it now.
But if you can live with it, more power to you!

You are right, it will be interesting to how much the climate change markers are affected by the reduction in pollution. I don't think the results will really influence people though, most are firmly set in their views.
Climate change and coronavirus have some interesting parallels, at least to me. Notice that at the start of the epidemic, conservative pundits and politicians dismissed it, calling it a hoax, overblown media hype, politically motivated etc. They strongly denied it, right up until the moment it was staring them in the face. They have done the exact same thing with climate change.
Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately), the pace of climate change is very slow. By the time they'll be willing to admit something is wrong, it will be too late. They'll be long gone, and their kids and grandkids will be left to clean up the mess. I don't have a strong view on two-sided politics either way, but I do trust in the scientists that study it much more than politicians or pundits.

21 hours ago, ianezy0 said:Yes, mental issues could be a big one.
Last night my neighbours here in CM had a huge domestic blow-up, the husband quarreled with the wife, started breaking things, and chased his son down the street with a machete. Police later came and calmed everyone down. I worry this kind of thing will become more commonplace the longer the lockdown goes on, and everyone becomes more stir crazy...

To posters that have gotten the 60 day extension, what all do you need to bring with you to get the extension?
I used this guide:
https://www.thethailandlife.com/non-immigrant-visa-extend-stay-60-days
Also bring a passport sized photo to attach to your application form. Can collect & fill in the form at immigration.

When using the money-in-bank method, the 400K is required when applying for a 1-year extension of stay based on your current Non Imm O - marriage Visa.
It is not required when you apply for a 60-day extension for reason of visiting your thai wife.
Thank you very much @Peter Denis and @cornishcarlos. I went back, spoke to someone else, and got a 60-day extension without showing a bank statement.

Hi, I'm in the same boat. I'm currently trying to do a 60 day extension of my multi entry non-o at Chiang Mai immigration. I was told I need to show 400,000 in the bank. Is this correct? I've read reports that this is not required for a 60 day extension. Are the rules are different in BKK?

I live between the airport and the ping river, and often hear these booms as well, usually around 5:00am. I figured it was something to do with the army base near the airport, but the air cannon explanation makes sense.

From my limited experience at a checkpoint, the roadside test kit detects the presence of amphetamines, not cannabis. I need to have some privacy while I pee, so having an angry bloke with an assault rifle watching my every move was not a fun time. Not sure what the Thai translation of 'performance anxiety' is, but he wasn't having any of it...

Not sure why both the forum post and the news article don't contain a link to the petition itself, but here it is:

What a worthwhile cause! Isn't this the same police station that was caught up in kidnapping story a few months ago?
My wife and I drove to Udon Thani after receiving a letter from this police station saying they had a 70,000 baht refund for her father, from a disputed fine. After driving halfway across the country, the kind sergeant informed my wife that in fact they decided to keep the money for themselves, as they 'didn't trust' her father, and involving a lawyer would 'cause a lot of problems for your family'.

For what it's worth:
Earlier this week I spoke with a Thai friend who works at a bar atop Maya, he told me they are now closing at 1am as the police are slightly more lenient. Good news I guess...at this rate closing times will be back to normal around 2019

Foreigners are also being effected, I saw this first-hand earlier this year. I met an expat Dutch lady (late 50s university lecturer) at a local art exhibition and in the middle of chatting she had a stroke and collapsed. She later died in hospital, doctors said was likely caused by high sodium in her blood.

Just had some family stay with us a few days.
- Motorbike trip to Mon Jam, stopping at places around Mae Rim
- Visit to Doi Suthep (horrible this time of year, hundreds of Chinese tourists with selfie sticks draping themselves across everything)
- Visit to Wat Umong (much nicer)
- Drinks at a rooftop bar at Maya
- Drinks at the coffee shop/bar Sepsilp Glin Kafe Bannok with tables in the river on the way to Samoeng, then coffee at nearby Valley Coffee
- Meal along the Ping river
- Khao Soi at Nimmanhaemin Soi 7
We didn't go out much at night (12am closing times now so why bother) but Riverside pub is always fun, or you can find some nice spots anywhere along Nimmanhaemin.

These subs no doubt come standard with the kind of hacking back doors found in products from other Chinese companies like Huawei

FWIW We've had issues with our True Fibre service here in Chiang Mai (Hang Dong) over the weekend and today, with the connection intermittently timing out for 5 mins at a time. Running a ping test today to US Google servers shows around 10% packet loss.

I'm attempting to do the same thing. Went to Chiang Mai immigration this week with my completed application in hand and they told me the laws have changed recently (they obviously weren't complicated enough) and that I'll need to go to Laos and get a new visa there once my current ED visa expires.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm not going to prepare a special steak for it, as I wouldn't put it past the mad old woman next door to return the favour to our dog. We have a small townhouse so a big dog isn't an option unfortunately, although I would love one.
I think I'll try to organise a pow-wow with the moo-bahn chiefs and her, with the ultimatum either the dog stays inside their yard permanently or the local cops pay her a visit and go home a few baht richer.

Hi all,
Around one year ago I gave into my girlfriend's nagging and got a dog (Pomeranian...yes I know...). During a walk down the street, the neighbours dog jumped out from behind it's gate and mauled it, and also bit my leg in the process. After negotiating with my gf, the neighbours agreed to pay half the medical bills (vet, rabies injections etc). They kept their gate closed for a month or so, and soon I started seeing it roaming outside again. It's quite aggressive and I've overheard other people complaining to the owner about the dog. It's not a stretch to say the dog could be a danger to small kids walking past.
Fast forward to this week, and some other neighbours seem to have a problem keeping their two Shih Tzu's from escaping though their gate. They needed rescuing twice this week because this dog mauled them (grabbing the neck and shaking it like a rag-doll).
The neighbours seem to not give a f**** about this situation, they actively avoid us (sometimes in almost comical ways), and I'm getting to the end of my tether from patching up bloodied dogs.
Does anyone know the law regarding dangerous dogs in Thailand? Would the police even bother with this?

Very sad. I know the family and this lady, and as mentioned before, she a had terminal illness and came to Chiang Mai to pass away. It's quite amazing the authorities did not call the number on the note, and by chance someone saw it online, recognised it and called it.

My Thai friend works across the road from where the body was discovered, she also confirmed the head trauma ("broken head" pointing to forehead) and something to do with the jaw possibly being broken. She said he looked Italian, and thought it looked like it was due to a fight rather than an accident.

Huh? The route to Phuket Airport is one of the few places not totally congested. Why not try to develop infrastructure in areas where the new mega condos are being developed?
