Pizzas, burgers and fish and chips are take away not restaurant food, but they are sold here at restaurant prices
Closes place i have found with restaurant food is wine connection in chalong
My wife prefers decent Thai food when eating out and i prefer decent western food as long as its all right with you
Always have a problem finding a restaurant that sells good food of both types, do you have a suggestion in Rawai or Nai HarnThere was an entire thread of about 300 posts not long ago completely tearing strips off wine connection. The manager got online and apologized for the crap they serve there

money
on what did you base this? what parameters? All of the ones that are not in the Rawai area.

The similans is closed by may so it is very dead up in Kao Lak. I would be interested on your experiences there. It seems like you have a taste for quality hotels.

A license for a jet ski just proves you can pass a written test. There is absolutely no practice assessment in most western countriesseems like these stories surface every month or so yet tourists still rent them.
How many people rent motorbikes an have no idea how to ride one ???
Even in Spain you need a licence before being able to rent a jet-ski.

insurance companies are going to cover idiots who admit to not knowing how to drive jetskis? That will be an interesting defense to get a claim. It's like smashing a semi trailer on the road and then telling the insurance to pay because you didn't know how to drive itIt is easy for us Expats to say that people should know better, however tourists are usually unaware of problems with Jet Ski operators.
Really, ALL rentals (Motorcycle, Car, Jet Ski, everything) should be forced by law to include proper insurance in the rental price, That way the operator is covered and so are the renters.

I have the card too. I am now convinced this adds to the waiting timeI don't get it. It took them 30 minutes to deliver? Or 30 minutes to understand your Michaelangelo scribble?
I assume 30 minutes to get the delivery note processed. Just a couple of days ago we bought a washing machine at HomePro Chalong. Shop was just open at 09.00, no customers to be seen, and not many staff about. So we collared a guy, choose a machine, then the old map trick, so he processes this all on a handwritten form sheet. Laboriously writes it all, good I think, all down. Then he nips off to the nearest computer point and enters a load of details on the keyboard, finished, on no, back his note pad. Accompanies us to the cash-out to give the lass the discount details we negotiated. At lease the check out was fast.
As a side issue, get your self a HomePro shop card. There is usually a good chunk of discount on top of the advertised discount on larger household items and TVs.

no it took 30mins to take the cash and stamp bins. The Michaelangelo map has almost a professional feel to it.I don't get it. It took them 30 minutes to deliver? Or 30 minutes to understand your Michaelangelo scribble?

At least 7. The map was being looked at upsidown. Even though it's written in Thai and English. I am getting the translated into Burmese and Chinese also this week. Just so we have all bases coveredHow many calculators were involved? Any less than 3 and the transaction is void.

I come in today to buy 4 items. Wall fans and some cupboards I walk straight to the back left hand side. Pick them out, tell the staff and walk straight to the cashier. I have the correct money and a map to my house printed out. It still takes 30 minutes.
What is it with the absolute head scratching muppets in this place? Are they straight out of the Burmese Jungle? I mean it is the most over staffed place on the planet, but the service speed makes a South American sloth look like 'The Flash'. The standard time for the head scratching and bin stamping is never ever less than 30mins.

it could be LSDEvery now and then one of these threads comes up. Makes me wonder if it's done on purpose so the forum testosteroneys can a get their angst out on something.
If it's serious, then seems an envelope letter, open with a simple sheet of paper really isn't a prospective journey to the midnight express.
Thai general post is the real risk if you need it to be there and don't want to spend what 800 baht on EMS ?

yes because the mooring buoys weren't in the approach channel. It's hard to understand for some, but if you choose not to navigate your boat properly you will sink it"Mr Phuripat attributed the cause of the crash to reckless driving."

If you can't come up with 10,000 baht a month for your child's education then you need to rethink your priorities. Most alcoholic expats drink 10k in a weekto be fair, what other choice is there for under 10k a month in phuket?
Remember that the cheapest international school is priced the same as the payment on good mercedes back in farangland + insane downpayments and most of it goes to the admins who drives 7-10mil baht cars.

The crappy ride over from that Muslim wharf is awful. But I reckon it's worth pushing through the punishmentLaem Hin is awesome food. And wine lovers is pretty good too. If you like Japanese all you can eat the buffet at index is pretty good

Laem Hin is OK, though (having been there many times over the last 5/6 years or so) is that they forego quality over quantity. My preference in that area is Talay Thong. Still beside the sea, but without the mass market feel of Laem Hin.

Women bring emotion to otherwise volatile situations. When a gun welding bandit is threatening people a woman will hesitate whereas a male will just shoot and sort out problems. A woman has a limited place in the force. Especially in a country like Thailand where the entire population feels the same way

Laem Hin is awesome food. And wine lovers is pretty good too. If you like Japanese all you can eat the buffet at index is pretty goodThere are so many restaurants in the Rawai/Nai Harn area that it's a wonder any of them can make any money.
The ones that do the best for expats seem to be Kallots, and M&M.
My favorite is still Wine Lovers. (in the area) I'm impressed with the chef, both taste and presentation.
And for seafood, we make the long trip to Laem Hin 4-5 times a year.
My wife is a better cook than the ones at most of the places we've tried, but I do get hungry for some Bakery's, Mexican and Italian food once in a while.
I'm glad to see the Japanese place although I was never a big fan of Jap food (portions just too small for me)
Anyone notice the revolving sushi place at the new Tesco on Choafa West? (haven't tried it but I saw they had an AYCE deal)

I forgot to mention darasamouth has a Christian curriculum. This alone is reason not to send a kid there

you just did
Wow, you really have a problem. I'm not dignifying your post with an answer.
So basically your extensive research was a waste. In trying to decide where to send my kid this was my first choice, after having done extensive research. In the end I received a special offer I could not refuse from an international school, so he never went to darasamuth.

You made your decision based on a financial windfall/deal whether it was the the best school or not.
What did your extensive research come up with regarding best education? Money buys the best?

Yellow taxi dudes are fine. Just agree on a price first. Easy.Thank u very much for all the info & replied on this thread, thank u...
So now what i need to do is getting into the yellow meter taxi, right? Seriously are they really scary in Phuket?
In Phuket airport where can i get a map? A clear map
Actually do anybody here know any nice manners driver who can fetch me around the island?
Then when you get to your hotel / guest house use a driver recommended by them. If you are using them daily they will lower the price for you. If you go to the beach they will wait most of the day for you there. If they take you around to the Tourist places like tiger kingdom and the zoo or elephant trekking they get a small commission, so they are happy to hang around.
I regularly have groups of friends come to Phuket and they never have a problem with the taxi service. Only the cheap charlies and bitter old expats have problems paying for taxis with their pension money. You will see them in their native environment sitting on concrete blocks outside shops. Drinking cans of archer beer with sour looks on their faces. Complaining about exchange rates and how the price of beer has gone up 25 satangs since the first came to Phuket in 1998.

what a great ambassador for Phuket you are. Why don't you tell the OP he is going to get gang raped by 20th ladyboys the second he steps out of his hotel??? This sort of 'reporting' is iresponsible and damaging to Phukets image. There are two things you need to know. One, there are a lot of scams being attempted at the Phuket airport. Two, transport on Phuket is an utter disgrace.
The airport "limo" service (somehow a mid-sized car has come to mean "limo" in Phuket, part of the scam IMO) is very expensive by Thailand standards, and it was been repeatedly reported that there are entities inside and outside the airport who are trying to charge 2 to 3 times more than the already expensive fare. To Patong should not cost more than 800b.
As an alternative to the silver "limos", you go out the main doors and turn right you will find the yellow metered taxis. Demand they use the meter or don't use them. The 100B airport surcharge is normal. If they don't overcharge you, they should be slightly cheaper than the silver colored "limos". Metered taxis and "limo" drivers both drive like they have a death wish. In any taxi in Thailand, check if it has seatbelts and if they work. Many have superficial, non-operable seatbelts that are only there in order to pass safety inspection.
The "limo" companies also have minibuses. Fare is 200b but you may have to wait for there to be enough passengers. It can also take over 2 hours to get to your destination depending on where the other passengers are going.
All three types of transport may kidnap you and take you to a "tourist info" booth against your will and give you the hard sale on tours or tell you that your hotel is in a bad area, closed, or that they can't find it, or has burned down, and that they must re-book you into another hotel. A hotel which gives them an nice commission, no doubt. Sometimes they will stop for petrol or CNG and demand you pay for it. For these reasons its a good idea to note the vehicles ID and call the taxi complaint line at 1584 if there is a problem. Another good number to have is the Tourist Police at 1155. Befor you get into any taxi at the airport, insist they take you directly to your hotel, andmake sure they know where it is. Be polite but firm.
.
The safest and scam free way to get to Patong is the express bus which runs to the center of Patong 9 to 10 times daily. Fare is 120b. Their website is phuketairportbusexpress.com but it appears down. You can see an older version of the site using the wayback machine by clicking here. Signs inside the airport pointing to where the bus picks up are routinely vandalized by the taxi drivers so you may have to hunt around for it. Note that although the site says the bus goes to Kata/Karon, it doesn't. That route had to be scrapped because the Kata/Karon tuk tuk/taxi mafia has threatened violence and blockades if that were to happen. Also note that once in Patong, you will probably need a tuk tuk or taxi to take you to your hotel which, even though it may be only a few hundred meters away, will cost you a minimum 200B. So the last few hundred meters will cost you more than the previous 40km's.
As I said, transport is a disgrace. I recently had the displeasure of trying to bargain with a tuk tuk driver at the bottom of Bangla Rd. Two girls, one of which was so drunk she had to be carried, wanted to go back to thier hotel, the Royal Pawadee Village. About 500m away. He wanted 300B no less.
OP. you are perfectly safe in Phuket and won't get kidnapped or robbed. The taxi will cost you between 25 to 30 bucks to get wherever you want on the island. Probably a third of the price of your home country. Only the cheapskate expats here have a problem. The 5 million tourists that visit the island every year barley have a problem.
