  1. Does anyone suggest a good orthopedic doctor around to get a consultation from?

Back in July, I was hit by 3 young girls on a motorbike while crossing the street and suffered a torn ankle ligament. After having my leg in a cast for 6 weeks, I was seeing Ajarn Sinchai for massage therapy. Although he is very good, I haven't been in about 4 months as his price is pretty expensive (for a low-salaried teacher in Chiang Mai). It seemed my ankle was ok, but I've been having some serious (worrying) pain this last week.

  2. Sunday 13th Jan: 0430: Ravens at Broncos 0800: Packers at 49ers

Monday: 14the January: 0100: Seahawks at Falcons 0430: Texans at Patriots

True DSTV cahnnels 103 and 113

Thanks for this information! I'll be at the UN at 4:30 on Sunday sporting my #18. Go Broncos!!, are they

That's a 4:30 a.m. game, will they be open that early to show it live?

Highly unlikely. But, they do show the replays later in the day. Unless you have a private sports channel at home, the only game you can watch live in a restaurant is Green Bay vs 49ers. The Maddog is open at 8 to show that game.

I realized after I posted this that you meant 4:30 am...Maybe I'll still show up in #18 at 4:30am anyways. Die hard, orange and blue fan right here!

Anyone know what time the replay on Sunday will be?

  3. This didn't give me the option to quote WJMARK:

"I haven't been for a while, but Ajarn Sinchai is considered a Grand Master. He is blind, and has worked with royalty. He is not too expensive (I am guessing at the 300-400b range these days), and is very good with specific injuries. He was the massage therapist at a major hospital for years. He has a new location and a new website.... http://www.sinchaimassage.com/"

Ajarn Sinchai is AMAZING. In July, I was hit by a motorbike while crossing the street resulting in a torn ankle ligament. After my cast came off, I was seeing Ajarn Sinchai 2 times a week for about 6 weeks. He works out of his home and sends people to pick you up and drop you off afterwards. His massages are 2 hours and 500b. I also suffer from lower back pain which he was able to help with as well. I honestly feel it's because of him I was walking so soon after my accident. My ankle still is not 100% and I'm sure never will be, but I'm no longer on crutches (which in Thailand is a blessing!) and I owe it to him!

  4. IrishFarang - I will try to answer your questions directly:

What's the job market like in CM for English Teachers?

    - The job market in CM is a little more competitive for teachers as CM is a place people want to teach. However, I still found it relatively easy to find a teaching job! With your education background and getting your TEFL certificate, you should have no problem!

What type of salary should I expect?

    - As CM is more competitive, the salary is lower than other citites in Thailand like Bangkok and the South. At my school, I earn 25,000 baht per month, but I'm also employed through the centre where I did my TEFL certification last February, so they take a cut of our pay.

What is the best time of year to look for positions?

    - For a full-time teaching position in a primary/high school, the best time to look is around March/April and September. Perfect timing for you to do your TEFL course in February (that's when I did mine last year!) You can always find work in language schools year round.

Would you recommend approaching schools directly in the search for employment or are there any agencies in CM that work on one's behalf?

    - You can do either option here. If you approach schools directly, dress smartly, have some resumes in-hand and just walk into the schools. It might be beneficial to ask for the head of the language department. It may be a case that a school has an opening so when you walk in and they like the way you "look", you might be offered a job on the spot. I was planning to make my way around to schools one day, and just happened to stop into the centre where I did my TEFL course, they said they had an opening at a school and if I wanted it, it was mine. Easy peazy, lemon squeezy!

Are there options for salary increases if you stay at a school for multiple contracts?

    - With my school, yes. Every year we stay on we get a 1,000 baht increase up to 30,000. I'm sure other schools are similar.

Is there any demand for private tuition outside of school hours, teaching members of the public etc?

    - I think there is always a demand, I've heard my friends saying they've been approached by Thai's on the street or songtaew/tuk tuk drivers asking for lessons. I was asked in a taylor's shop for lessons. You can advertise on Craigslist. I decided not to teach privately right now as working a full-time teaching job in a primary school can be tiring, sometimes you just need to have a break.

What's the best method of advertising for private tuition and what is the general hourly rate?

    - I would say Craigslist or make up flyers and post around town. Make buisness cards and hand them out in Thai areas. I believe language schools charge about 500 baht an hour and people that I know who teach privately charge about 230 - 300 baht an hour.

    Hope this helps!! Good luck!

  6. I just had it done last month , I downloaded fingerprint form on reg. a4 paper made 2 of them brought them to police station asked nicely they did it for free. FBI processing took 5 weeks , filled out credit card form also . very easy. I also used EMS about 800. baht

Thaitom - Which police station did you use? I went to the one in the middle of the city today (near Prah Singh) and they said they couldn't do and told me to go to Mae Rim.

  7. Tywais: i believe the OP needs prints to be taken for an FBI check, not a "police station"... having done this myself (in USA), i know they will only accept FP cards from a certified service... basically like a notary service along with the FP taking... otherwise you could send in anyone's FP if you have something to hide...

My suggestion is to find out from FBI what foreign services that the FBI will accept/allow to take the prints then send those in...perhaps the US consulate knows?

It was also a requirement for applying for permanent residency and had checked into it sometime ago.

Individuals may NOT fingerprint themselves; fingerprints MUST be obtained from a law enforcement agency or through Accurate Biometrics, pursuant to the DO Requirements.

    FBI Fingerprint Card

Go to a major police station in your area.

. embassies and consulates do not provide this service. U.S. citizens can obtain a letter from the U.S. Consulate asking local police experts to take their fingerprints. There is a $50 fee for this letter. You need to make an appointment for notarial services to obtain it

Thanks Tywais! The link for the blog is really helpful (as I am needing my FBI background check for my Korean E2 visa!).

  8. FBI Background Check From Thailand - If you're already in Thailand, the easiest way to get a criminal background check is to appear at the Royal Thai Police Headquarters on Rama I Road in downtown Bangkok. They'll take your fingerprints at no charge. You can then send them to the FBI.

That's useful, but I'm not going to go all the way down to Bangkok to have my fingerprints taken.

I had my fingerprints done for the FBI background check a year ago and I know they're good for 18 months. Would you know if they would still have them on file and use from my previous background check?
