  1. I need to get a Thai passport for my son, I know the process but I am in Cambodia and he and his mother are in Thailand. I know that she can apply without me if I get a letter of parental consent notarized and sent to her.

I have 2 questions: Does the letter have to follow a certain format/template? and can I get in notarized anywhere or does it need to be done at a Thai embassy or consulate?

Thanks in advance for your help

  2. This would be to start a new Ed visa, the current one expires on 29th May. I only recently collected my new PP so have started the process all a bit last minute and I have the letter from embassy which I need to fill out but it suggests that I need to go british embassy in bangkok, although I have just noticed it says I can email scanned copies of the form/letter, new and old pp data pages, last date entered TH and type of visa so should be simple

But to be honest, if that fails for any reason I am thinking how much hassle can it be just going my normal bus/overland route to Vientiane, if it takes me an extra hour at Nong Khai and even a couple of thousand baht to smooth things overs it will still be cheaper than flying somewhere.

Why not follow the "advice" from the expensive "visa company" you told us about in the first post ?

    Here are some thought(s)

Why is a "new" Ed visa needed ?

Why cannot an "extension of stay" be secured? ( Ask the "school" )

Maybe no transfer of "stamps" is needed !

Perhaps all that is required is for the two passports to be presented at a border .

Perhaps it would be wise to secure the Embassy "letter" .

Already had 3 extensions of stay and as it will have been 12 months since I last did an in/out as far as I know I am required to leave the country again. According to the embassy letter a transfer of visa stamp is needed. Some of your advice and info has been helpful, Thank you. Your condescending attitude I can only assume is to prepare me for similar treatment from a Thai immigration official at the border.

  4. I am getting a new ed visa and have just been told my visa company that because I have a new PP and haven't transferred my visa stamp yet it is best for me to fly in and out to avoid problems with immigration? I need to be out ny the 29th of this month.

Has anyone experienced problems trying to do this over a land border with new PP?

If I do need to fly, where is the best place to go to apply for new visa? I am flying from Chiang Mai

Thanks in advance for any helpful info

  5. URGENT

Not sure if this the right place to post so apologies in advance if this is wrong or a repeated question.

I need to renew my british passport because it is full, not expiring for 1 more year (May 2016) and my current ed-visa will expire on the 19th May 2015. I need to get my passport back before then in order to exit for a new visa at the end of May. I live in Chiang Mai and there is no way I am forking out extra on 2 round trips just so someone can confirm that I can actually fill out a form and provide a photo of myself that does indeed look like me, so my question is: Has anyone posted their application directly back to the UK passport application office? If so how did it work out? How long turnaround? Any special instructions?

Thank you for any useful information

  8. I filled out an application form for my UK passport renewal today and was surprised at how simple and easy it was but what surprised me even more was to find that I need to go to Bangkok to some agency on Soi 13 to apply in person! I tried emailing the agency to ask how long this process will take so I can arrange flights as I live in CM but got an automated response telling me that cannot answer enquiries and directing me back to gov.uk which obviously didn't answer that question.

    So my question(s):

Has anyone else here been through this process and can you tell me how long it takes roughly in the office on the day?

The UK Government website says that I can keep my passport after applying for ID purposes(no mention of any fee) but the agency website says that I would have to pay 40 pounds to keep it, which is correct?

Also the only proof of my address I have is my rental agreement, is this acceptable?

Thanks for any info but please only reply if you have been through this process since March 31st 2014 as thats when this system came into play

  9. Hi all

I need to insure my car (1st time doing so), a 2003 Toyota Vios and just want to know if anyone has any advice/good experience to share that my help. Who's the best to go with?, etc.

I am In Hang Dong, south of Chiang Mai - does anyone know of any insurance agents in the area as I haven't noticed any.

Thanks in advance for any helpful comments

  10. Not unexpected at all, and apparently, the only way that they could possibly make the lady see sense.

What is now required is for her to make a public appearance announcing that the election is off, she and her caretaker government are stepping down, Suthep can therefore call off the street protests, and the business of carrying out necessary reforms can get under way.

She must also make it very clear to the Red Shirt extremists that their cause is over, and they should return to their homes; furthermore, anyone caught involved in any acts of shootings or bombing in response to the resignation of the government should be made to face the full extent of the law.

So whats the next step? Who will carry out these reforms? Too many people seem to think that if Yingluck stands down it's problem solved, nobody seems to be thinking about what comes next, an People's Council chosen by god knows who is not a realistic or democratic solution is it?

  11. I used to play there fairly regularly and always used the same caddy. At the end of November they had started work on expanding the course to 18 holes but by Xmas they had apparently sold it off to a Singaporean developer who will build some sort of residential complex on the site

  12. On my last visit to Mae Sai to get a 14 day stamp I was informed by the immigration officer when returning to the Thai side, that I would not be able to continue to do this every 2 weeks due to new regulations starting in 2013. Does anybody know what these new regulations are?

I have made quite a few trips to Mae Sai since October when my tourist visa expired, which brings me to my next question......

In May this year I went to Vientiane and got a tourist visa with double entry, so essentially 6 months. Can I go and do that again? I have heard conflicting stories but many saying that you can only do this once - any ideas?

I am on a UK passport and in my 30s, staying in CM

    All help appreciated
