  2. Spent a lot of dough on things like attached garage with all the fixings, rcbo's across the board, safe electrical installations from one end to the other, ect......... All worthless crap, a loss upon a sale.

Noise pollution has at least tripled since built & access to our area has become gantlets of death.

The return on this investment is rent free & creature comforts installed while I'm here, and something for my wife when I'm gone.

It's seriously near impossible to find contractors or sub-contractors who will take pride in their respective jobs. Who will act professionally & show courtesy to clients and their property. Who will actually think outside the box to better, and expand their business.

My Thai wife has my last name but my Mother doesn't (divorced/remarried). This would be a great option if possible!

    Thanks!

  5. Hey TV folks,

My Mother's coming from the US to stay with my wife & I long term. Trying to figure out what kind of visa to get her. The scenario I'm looking at now is bring her in on a tourist visa with a wasted round trip ticket. Her income is shy of the required amount so, set up a bank account upon arrival and after the 2 or 3 month requirement of 800,000 baht (-her income) in there, and apply for the O-A.

    Appreciate any better suggestions!

    Thanks in advance!

  6. Given the turnout at Suthep's speech tonight - maybe 1500 with about a third being tourists (I was there) - it ain't surprising. He has no more ammunition left.

He needs some blood on the streets to get things to swing his way. All at the expense of common folk who tend to follow blindly, benefiting the corrupt (so called elites).

  7. The only thing left for the Democrats is to decide how to cook the crow, they have to eat!

    Again they gambled and lost!

I believe that anyone from that party that fails to vote, should not be allowed to be elected to a political position until they abide by Thai law of voting in the last election and that a common person or other political parties should question their right to do so by filing law suits against those that failed to respect Thai laws for a political office holder!

    Cheers

Agree. Maybe the Democrat party could be laid to waste like the waste it is, and another party could rise with genuine interests for the country and voters. Unfortunately, Thai law doesn't mean squat. Gota love their recent decision to squash any arrest warrants for protest leaders and basically clearing the way for any form of assault to stop people from voting.

  8. It's the normal and natural course of events for a major political party to have rallies during the final week of the lead up to a general election. Get the rank and file fired up, make sure they get out to vote, remind 'em of why they support the incumbent government, have the courtesy and respect to ask for the vote of each citizen.

In this particular election, it's vital to remind the voters that showing up at the polls in face of a mortal danger to democracy in the country is the necessary and courageous thing to do especially given there are fascist militants who want to stop the election and to kill democracy.

It's equally if not more important to remind the party members of what they are not, in this instance not right wing extremist nationalist feudalists whose ideology is that they as Suthep's militants are pure and the true patriots. They in fact are the opposite of the vast majority of the Thai people who are political moderates in the country's political center, the vast and broad legitimate political center.

It's a shame, as far along as Thailand has come (maybe that's questionable), one has to struggle so hard & risk assault to cast a vote. Really turned my stomach to see some of those youtube videos of early voting where elderly woman trying to get to the poll, were being harassed with whistles, yelled at, pulled to the ground, ect....

I also read that the courts did not authorize the arrest warrants for protest leaders instigating all this. So, in effect, they're saying it's legal to run a muck in Thailand & stomp all over anyone's constitutional rights.

  9. Rice farmers cause an emergency decree? That's a good one. By the way, they would've been paid if not for the CC & EC freezing spending. I'm not condoning the rice scam & hope to see people incarcerated over that one. As for the emergency decree, no way it was implemented because of assaults, idiots tossing grenades, influx of weapons in the capitol, threats of kidnapping & asset seizures, shootings, threats of closing the aeronautical control center & the SET, disrupting all forms of life in Bangkok, ect...............

It's good to see some people demanding reforms & a decline in corruption, it's democratic. But sure would like to see these very people research & think about the childish clowns representing them.

  10. While the article alluded to a failure of governance, it did not consider the one problem that afflicts the entire country and society - and that is a failure of leadership overall. At every level, be it civil society, the bureaucracy, provincial and tambon administration, security agencies, even sporting groups - where are there any real leaders, those staunch, stoic, principled, decent folk who stand up for what is correct and proper, who lead by example? Thai society is divided, as the article correctly states, but it is not just social divisions as it claims, and as many people claim. It is a failure to produce good, decent men and women, people of honour and integrity and fortitude, to lead society. The failure of leadership.

Agree! Like to add the need for education reforms. Reading, writting & brainwashing nationalism isn't going to cut it, other than benifiting the so called elites.

  11. The army will act for the demonstrators, most likely by providing weapons to attack the police if required. I doubt they would step in unless its to take control, as in a coup. The whole point is that the PDRC wants violence and chaos to achieve its goal to take over Thailand.

I can agree on your last sentence; but the 1st one???? Holy crap!!! You think the army's going to issue an M16 with a few topped off magazines to anyone with a whistle?

  12. Thai government fears coup plan in the works

Just a distraction from the real intentions...On the contrary, It can only work IN FAVOR for Thaksin, because,... IF the yellows oust again, then the entire red shirt brigade of Thailand will make Suthep's Bangkok shutdown look like a fancy-nancy Bangkok-ONLY-Bangkok-VIP party,...

... in THIS case,... Bangkok and its few million Anti-government protesters along with many innocent people will be annihilated like trillion kachillian tsunamis, with a vengeance in the near future....

    DemoThaksin-ocracy

Sad, but I don't think you're far off there. Pull the tanks out & put the Dems (not sure why they call themselves democrats) in office could very likely end up very bad, very quickly. A lot of people are seeing red (not referring to shirts) here already.

  13. Vote buying is an excuse. By all accounts, all of the major parties have & continue to use this tactic. Thaksin Shinawatra & family are only the 10th richest in Thailand, according to Forbes (2013), so how is it they they have such overwhelming finances to dominate the political landscape? Newin Chitchob was used by the Dem coalition to outbid PT in the north & north-east, but was spectacularly unsuccessful. The reds/PT called for international observers for the last election, but they were denied by the Dems, who of course don't respect 'farang'.

This is just one of a few choice excuses used by the opposition to try & explain the simple fact that they are not well enough supported to win a general election.

They're probably spending more money on protests than it would cost to buy the votes they need. tongue.png

Exactly! If Suthep (just as corrupt as Taksin from my research) and the Dems put all that time, energy and financing into running for office (democratically), I bet there's a good chance they could have got it on this run. Don't think the Dems like to roll democratically, looking at their track record.

  14. Bad news for Suthep if the reds actually do that and avoid confrontation he won't have the violence he needs.

You've posted a lot of dumbass stuff but I think this counts as one of the dumbest. No one wants any violence and everyone on both sides of this conflict is breathing a sigh of relief that there probably won't be a confrontation.

    Glad you appreciate my contribution.

If you don't understand that Suthep needs confrontation to bring in the troops then where have you been? The military have basically said they will intervene if any occurs.

I believe the reds may have made a good move, not going at all would have been better, and I sincerely hope that everything goes off peacefully and nobody gets hurt.

Whatever happens it will only be the old cycles of Thailand repeating itself and it will achieve exactly the same results as in the past. Back to square one.

Yep. Different paws in the cookie jar. Sutheps dirty paws being far worse IMHO. Keep the people brainwashed & uneducated, and both partys can pull this crap off indefinitely. Election, coup, election, ect.................................................................

  15. " many transport-related projects including road construction and repair countrywide, dual track system and seaport development will be halted"

mai pen rai. We have buffaloes and can breed more elephants for cross country travel. Added bonus for tourists. And we don't need any links with an outside world, international airports will be closed in due time.

constitutional court never accepts any bribes and never bends to pressure from the thailand rulers

Yep, already got education in the dark ages. Now we can eliminate any maintenance or advances in infrastructure and who cares about lack of water in the dry season & flooding during the raining season.

Soon Burma will be a super-power next to Thailand.

  16. "I am glad he came into power because something started to change in Thai society"

    What exactly "started to change"?

They are changing back to the traditional corrupt ways instead.of the new fangled ones like trains and water projects.

Agree! Thailand desperately needs those infrastructure projects, 2nd to education though! Keep them stupid and in the dark ages, easier to control & manipulate.

  17. Problem is there isnt any party that isnt totally corrupt and out for what they can grab, Thais have no patience for elections or democracy hence the 22 or so attempted or successful; coups in the last 100 years rather than fight it out at election time.... no patience at all.

Politics are a joke in Thailand, always have and for the foreseeable future always will be.

Absolutely! Until there's a decent educational system here that can replace the current nationalistic brainwashing, there'll always be a population incapable of critical thinking & individual thought.

  18. Best of luck, here's hoping to the end of The Convicted Criminals Governemnt

    Not in this century.

This is how democracy works in Thailand, Forget waiting until the next elections you take to the streets anytime you feel like selling a gimmick like a coloured shirt or wristband ... who needs elections anyway.

Typical spoiled brat antics and they are all as bad as each other.

Least some food stalls will be doing a roaring trade for a few days smile.png

Exactly!!!! Leading these gullible people into believing there will be change; when it's really all about lining different pockets. Thais desperately need the change in the educational system!!!
