  1. I very much doubt that! Typically banks will pay interest free of tax up to 20k per year and thereafter the account becomes taxable at basic rate.

The account was opened on the12/12/12 with interest being paid between the 27th and 30th of the month

To my loss i did not check the November interest till the13/12/13.The book showed 28/11/13 interest1,728฿

    Then 28/11/13 tax 1,728฿ then 13/12/13 interest 892.66฿ then 892.66฿ tax

The interest went just over the 20,000฿ on the 28/11/13

  2. Not only that, but you say he wants his wife and daughter to come to the UK to settle.

If his daughter does this with a Thai passport, not only will she need a settlement visa to do so (cost £851) but he will also have to meet the income requirement for a spouse and a child dependent (£22,400 pa) instead of just for a spouse (£18,600 pa).

Even if they came as visitors, the cost of a visit visa would wipe out the difference in cost between an in UK passport application and an overseas one. Plus his wife would then have to return to Thailand to apply for settlement.

Better for him to send the relevant documents to his wife so that she can obtain the daughters British passport in Thailand.

I have to ask; she's 15, why hasn't he got her a British passport before? Surely his wife and daughter must have wanted to visit their British family at some point in the last 15 years?

I agree with you 7by7 about not getting a passport before for his daughter,he's the greatest guy in the

World but when they were giving the brains out he was sat at the back of the queue.

It was my suggestion for her to try her Thai passport until he told me the visa was about 43,000 Baht

I will have to get the full story from him as the wife talks with a brummy accent so they have been to

    The uk before

  3. My english friend who as been married to a Thai for17 years and as a 15 year old daughter.

At present he is working in the Uk and wishes to bring is daughter and wife back to England with a view

    To settle in the Uk.

    My question is

If is daughter comes to England on her Thai passport can he then apply for a British passport for her

    While she"s in England.

    Thanks for any info

  4. Is anyone paying monthly for CTH and if so, can you only pay to the outlets on their website.

It seems strange to me that there is no mention to pay a monthly payment to any of the big banks

when they can show a photo on the CTH website doing a deal for credit with the Bangkok bank.

I was told yesterday that i could only have a Bank of Ayudhya first choice card if i have a business.

    quote CTH web site

Average 599 baht / month. 24 months to 36 months to pay.

paid the full amount just one installation and free first point. s customers can relax with 0% up to 10 month to the credit card bank. Besieged by the credit card networks. (Ayudhya and credit card. Central Card card. Simple Card Visa Card. Tesco Visa card) or KTC credit card payment. paying 0% interest for 24 month card besieged First Choice.

  5. Thanks for the info hotandhumid

Do you have to use a CTH dish (if so how much) or can you supply your own dish

    Thanks

Right, I went to the CTH shop in Pattaya Tai today, the latest is as follows..

He said the boxes will be ready on the 10th July, I told him where I live (Dark Side) and he said everything over there will be satellite only.

You have to pay Bt3,500 which includes a Bt1,800 deposit for the box, which you get refunded when you eventually return the box, so basically you lose Bt1,700 and there is also an installation fee of Bt300

If you want an extra box (like me) it is an additional Bt1,800 plus Bt200 per month.

As said previously the monthly fee is Bt899 per month + vat so for 2 boxes will be Bt1,099 plus vat.

I am going to go for the deal of pay for 10 months to get 2 months free, so the total for my package will be around Bt17,500 with Bt3,600 to come back at some point in the future (or maybe not laugh.png )

They also have a demo there now on their tv, not all the channels are on there, but they did have the SKY news channel.

I registered and paid a deposit of Bt1,000 so fingers crossed I will be all set up just after the 10th and then it's adios True Visions.

    H&H

The dish is included in the price of bt3,500

No idea if you can use another dish, why, are you thinking about using your dustbin lid?

I am watching some FTA CTH channels on the Vinasat satellite @ 132 E

on a old 75cm KU band dish that i have had for years.

If people want to buy new dishes for 1,700 Baht when there"s no need that"s up to them

  7. Wife phoned CTH and got put on the list/queue. It seems all the prices advertised are net. Have to add tax and 1800 deposit for each box. 100 per month per box also charged, so my one year deal with dish and one box arriving at a total of @ 11,000 baht. Still an absolute bargain. Will post when it is all installed with exact costs.

Thanks to everyone on this thread for the info. The footy and some UK TV very important for me out in the sticks. Truevisions eat your heart out!

For this price have you taken the subscription for one year or 3 years

  8. Err... yes, willing to take bets, how much? New service will be active from 21st June. I've been told two dates when service details are to be announced 16th and 20th.

I know they are launching channels via satellite for Laos and Cambodia, as yet there is no cable infrastructure there. Only makes sense that those unable to access CTH service via TOT fiber optic cable can do so via a dish.

C.T.H. are already broadcasting some of their channels on the Vinasat network

  9. I guess that now Maggie is dead, and has been buried, this thread can be put to rest to avoid any irrelevant sniping about her offspring or other non-topic matters.

    Just sayin...............

Yes everyone as had their say

    Close the thread

  10. The jury is in and a verdict has been reached, the people of England have spoken:

"In a swathe that stretched nearly three miles through London, the ordinary people of Middle England turned out in their tens of thousands for Margaret Hilda Thatcher. Hundreds dressed up, wore rosettes and waved flags to pay their final respects to the former prime minister. There were dissenters, of course, but this was one day when the jeers were massively overwhelmed by the cheers".

Normal people 94%, small picture people 6% at best, case closed, next!

Its A pity they never built St Pauls cathedral in the likes of Glasgow,Liverpool or Yorkshire.

I think your percentages might off gone a little off course

  11. Cab anyone get a refund. I mean can you get a refund when residing here on a non-immigrant visum, or do you need to be known at the tax-office ?

You need to get a print out from your bank/s how much withholding tax you have paid on your fixed deposit account/s

then go to the tax office and apply for a rebate, they will give you a tax ID card and process your refund.

The first year you apply in the January, you can also claim the refund for the 3 years before

  12. AFAIK, there shouldn't be any particular availability connection between where TrueVisions is available now, and where CTH is or will be offering their services.

TrueVisions has their cable strung where it goes. And CTH will have theirs, an entirely separate system as best as I can tell.

The only thing I'm not clear on is, if you read back thru the CTH articles, you'll see mention of part of their ownership being a consortium of many of the little guy cable systems spread around Thailand. So when CTH starts as a broadcasting entity, will their channels be carried across all those consortium cable systems. Or the small systems will continue their own programming setups, but continue to use CTH only in its original role of helping to acquire international programming content.

I haven't seen that answer addressed anywhere. The CTH website talks about them already having a couple million subscribers... But it's entirely unclear from their site just who or where those subscribers are.

It seems to me that they will have absolutely no chance of laying (or stringing along poles in Thailand I guess) miles and miles of cable in order to provide access for a reasonable number of subscribers before next August, or am I missing something?

I would like to know how many Thai visa members are subscribing to the CTH network.

How many Thai visa members have been sounded out to subscribe to the CTH network.

Any Thai visa member noticed any advertising in their area for the new network.

Chicog says it would be easy to recoup the 200 million dollars they have paid for the EPL rights

for the next 3 years, but when you take into account they will have to pay other providers for the

rest of the channels they will have to provide, plus paying for the advertising they will do in order

to promote their service. The 200 million will look like 400 million before they finish.

Interesting to see the True visions share price as risen about 70% in the past 3 months,

my wife bought at 4.2 Baht and today they are 6.95 Baht.

Looks like there are a few good stock market judges who are not worried about the CTH network
