  1. I experienced a flat tire today and pulled into a motorbike repair shop.

There was an Englishman screaming at the staff, reading the riot act.

Not sure why but it didn't faze them. (must be used to it)

After my repair I went home and noticed missing bodywork trim and 2 muffler bolts missing.

    Birdbrains.

  2. Comparing Thaksin to most other Thai politicians. The charges against are purely politically motivated. He has done no more than most others have done. How about Khun Suthep who gave nine parcels of very high quality farming land to his hi so rich family mates. These parcels of land were government owned and earmarked for distribution to poorer farming families, then there is the case of enroachment onto government land by the Suthep family on Koh Samui, another project which was pushed "under the carpet"

If they are going to continue to pursue Thaksin because he signed off on a block of land which his wife bought through a perfectly legal action where she out bid at least for other companies who were bidding for the land. Then they have to pursue Khun Suthep.

Did K. Suthep make over $2 billion while in office? Dr. Thaksin did. Did K. Suthep use the treasury to loan Burma the money to buy his telecom services? Dr. Thaksin did. Did you just arrive in the Kingdom or are you willfully ignorant. You can go to the Northeast of Thailand today and talk to people who believe the million Baht Village Fund came from Dr. Thaksin's pockets. Just the known/prosecuted corruption at the new airport dwarfs anything K. Suthep has done. Dr. Thaksin introduced Weapons Grade corruption to the Kingdom while destroying the checks and balances that keep a government honest. Dr. Thaksin was well on his way to having the power the his friend Hun Sen enjoys today. If you want to help Dr, Thaksin, it is best you don't draw comparisons to his corruption as ALL others fall very short.

Were do you get your info? From The Nation? Sounds like it.

Now if Suthep was in the stock market during Thaksins term, then he did alright, just like Thaksin.

    138% I recall.

You see, Thaksin was on the Forbes billionaire list before he became PM and did you know his returns mirrored the SET.

  3. State funded venues should charge more for non residents and it should be posted.

My beef is with the unscrupulous commercial business' that do this.

Especially the ones that hide the true retail price in Thai script. Shameless scammers.

  4. Excuse me, why do you think it is about hiding prices? When I went to Queen Sirikit hospital to register the signs were in English for me, 250 baht, in Russian (250 baht) and Thai languages (20baht). The Thais can't read English and I can't read Thai and I could give a s**t if a Thai gets a discount.

You are not aware of Thai culture and their national pastime of overcharging their guests?

It IS about hiding the price.

When Ocean World opened, the price displayed was 450Bt. for everybody.

When the Australian Manager left and a Thai took over, they decided to charge visitors more, jacked up the price and created signs in Thai script to hide the fact.

    Shameless scammers.

  5. I was just watching the PPTV and saw Megan doing the review for the new Pattaya Colleseum and interviewing the main man (who looked to be about 25).

Anyways when she asked how much to get in he said "It is 600 baht for Executive and 700 for VIP" after a minute he said: "Sorry that price was for Thai's. Foreigners pay 1000 baht and 1100 baht for the VIP".

For that reason alone I will never go their nor will I tell any travelers (my friends) to go there.

I stand corrected (for the worse) I saw the commercial again and the price they said for foreigners was 1200 and 1400 NOT 1000 and 1100 so that is literally DOUBLE pricing not just Dual pricing.

Do this place try to hide the Thai price using Thai script like they do at Siam Ocean World?

  6. This is a clear message to the government (at a vulnerable time), by the powers that they are in control and quite capabile taking control at any moment. The government must conceed to their wishes. You can see by the timing, the play here. It could not come at a much more obvious time for the government. The media, the papers and a clear demonstration "threat" by ther army. Who is in control of Thailand, not the govenrment thats for sure. The government is only an elected representation of the people..... what has that got to do with control. The ARMY, controled media, those that own and run the ARMY run Thailand. Always have, always will, 8 military cou's...... who do you think controls Thailand? Who ever controls the Army and that is NOT the government.

    Precisely.

Anybody that disagrees hasn't read up.

Those books are banned for a reason.

  7. Ate at LaMonitas a few days ago. Still very good....and 11 varieties of salsa....free.

Agree. Those carnitas tacos are just like the ones I ate in Salinas.

The other place I like is Tacos & Salsa Soi 18.

But last time I went....there was NO salsa. I only need a tablespoon full or so.

Had to ask and got billed 40 Bt.

    That's messed up.

That's like an Italian restaurant that charges for bread and parmesan.

    By by.

  8. You forgot to add an election that PT will win, again. They only ever 'lose' when the army gets involved.

Your idea of democracy is clearly very different from mine.

If the democrats started bribing and kowtowing to farmers and peasants like the Red PT, it would be different. But they have integrity.

    The PAD was right.

Those peasant and Farmers (majority) should not get a full vote. They are stupid and don't know what's good for them.

They only support Thaksin since he will give them 300Bt in the next election.

Don't believe that nonsense that things are booming in Issan and the standard of living has increases 40%.

I think you should re-read what you have written. What a pompous attitude!!! I am sure most people know what is good for them.....and it might not be what you think is good for them. Are you suggesting that some people are only worth half a vote...based on what? You own beliefs?

"Country folk willing to throw their country down the toilet for a free lunch and 300bt. on election day."

    You know it's true.

  10. From this evening's news posting on the Nation's website: "Security at Parliament and Government House beefed up Monday as a precaution against protesters once the controversial amnesty bill is tabled next Wednesday.

Concrete barriers were placed at all entrances and exits of Government House in a move to keep out the Pitak Siam group, which is expected to show up on Sunday morning.

One police truck was also seen parked nearby along with a vehicle armed with a long-range acoustic device emitting ear-splitting sirens. Two police tents were also set up and a photograph of the group's leader was posted on a metal barricade near one of the tents. However, police say it is not a "wanted" poster.

Deputy House Speaker Wisut Chainarun said 700 police officers would initially deployed near Parliament on the days the controversial bill is deliberated. Also, all cars and bags entering the compound would be closely searched.

Suwichag Nakwatchrachai, Parliament secretary general, said 10 members of staff would be on standby in two shifts to escort out those who refuse to follow the House rule.

Separately, a red-shirt group - calling themselves People's Radio for the People Group - set up camp outside the Parliament complex yesterday in order to "protect" lawmakers from anti-government protesters.

The group set up a large tent and billboards carrying messages supporting the government's decision to deliberate amnesty bills. There were no police officers present at the site as of press time.

Meanwhile, Deputy House Speaker Charoen Jankomol confirmed that the amnesty bill proposed by Pheu Thai MP Worachai Hema will be considered next Wednesday."

It will come as no surprise to anyone that the red shirts will probably be allowed into an otherwise closed off area close to Parliament to protect Parliament from anti-amnesty demonstrators. Amazing Thailand!

Perhaps Thailand should shelve that slogan, there's nothing amazing about a bunch of thugs that ran riot and held a Country to a bloody Ramsom, closed down the Capital for weeks and tried to burn it down. Were part of a paid for exercise in paid for Terrorism now it's a case of whitewash us all (especially Thaksin) ,with an Amnesty, because like children often claim when caught out: it wasn't me,I didn't do anything.... Outrageously Pathetic!

Wow, i didn't realize the whole of Bangkok was closed.

Somebody has been reading The Nation( and believing it)

They think that closing down a fee shoppinging centers and hotels is " the entire city"

Yet when you bring up the terrorists that commandeered an internationàl airport they dismiss it.

  11. Exactly which industries are dominated by russian nationals? Sounds more like the press trying to whip up a storm of xenophobia and sensationalism.

I would hazard a guess at prostitution and extortion for starters, and I would also suggest that the locals are up in arms essentially because the Russians are fully aware that the Thais hunt in packs, and they have the set up to be able to deal with that.

"No Russian Mafia in Pattaya" is like saying there are no jet ski scams there either...!

There was a Russin guy running a jet ski scam with a Thai lady across from Royal Garden.

He was photographed on the beach, counting a big wad of cash (photo on the Mayors facebook page) and soon disappeared.

This was about the same time the jet ski scammers began assaulting photographers too.

  12. It's about gouging the farang.

I took two Thai staff to Ocean World and they tried to charge me the farang rate for the Thais.

    Scammers.

Nonsense. Thais get a discount, non-Thais pay the full price. I trust you pointed out their error and the situation was rectified. Why is every mistake a scam?

Thais are getting a discount all over Thailand on everything and the Farang get full retail price.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

This guys sounds like he just got off the 10baht tuk tuk city tour...

Some farangs are taking it up the a** all day and don't even realize it.

Actually when "this guy" went to Ocean World he paid the "Thai" price as he had his work permit and tax certificate with him.

Wow. That guy must be really desperate for the discount.

He thinks he got a discount.

    Too funny.

  13. Yingluk is the PM. Does it matter who she consults?

That's the beauty of a democracy.

The people can decide at the next election if they are pleased.

Unfortunately aren't any free elections in Thailand. At all the elections were massive vote buying. Which is of course not democratic

Vote buying. This is what the sore losers say every time.

Fact is, the Army and Democrats refused to involve Internationel elction observers the last two elections.

Suthep said he doesn't trust foreigners. Kept them out.

Still all the last elections there was massive vote buying in Thailand, so whoever is the looser was right.

And actually all parties (at least these who win some seats) did some vote buying. Well known that some people took the money from 2,3,4 parties.

Unless there is a big change, new police, new courts, new laws and new constitution it will never end and speaking about democracy is just ridiculous if the guy with the most money can buy his win.

(or buy other parties or buy MPs).

Smart businessmen don't pay for landslides.
