  1. I've sent Sophon an email asking for informatioin about BBC.

I tried to call them but there is no answer at their phone number!!!

Just got a reply frm Sophon, they said that the BBC technition wiull fix it today.

It's not on now buit I guess it shbouyld be back soon.

Based on their reply, I guess that problem is with BBC equipment and not any of the worst case senarios poster(guessed ) here!!

  2. I had one at the Coco restaurant (Jomtien) last weekend and it was perfect. Note there are new owners - Richard (ex Amour) has taken it over with his old chef so food is top class

Where is Coco please as I used to like the food at Amor once in a while?

Coco's is on Chaiyapreuk 1 about 50 meters down from Sukhumvit, towards the beach

Detailes and map on the web site: http://www.cocospattaya.com/

  3. if you can't beat it, shun it

so basically the 'democrats' will urge people not to use their democratic right to vote, to throw away their vote

the minority trying to get their way based on technicalities, rather than 'democrat'ic means.. fantastic.

if you can't coup it, shun it.

shunning a vote they know they won't win, now where do i remember this from.

You fail to see that this is a failed democracy.

When there is no chance that a debate will win the day due to external corrupting influence where politicians go through the motions in order to present a veneer of due process, the better option is to veto that process.

Those in power remain abusers making a circus out of the democratic process. The most powerful response is not to support that process in order to isolate it and expose it for what it is: a Sham.

That message is a clear and simple one that an ill-educated, ill-informed Thai populace can grasp.

Commenting from ivory western towers doesn't help.

Obama has a chance of chaning US gun law right now. It will be debated. He may well lose. But he will lose fairly or win fairly. He will not be subject to corrosive corrupting influence before he starts. That is a mature democracy in process.

    Thailand?

    Forget it. Use the boycott.

And you really think that the NRA and gun lobby in the US are any different. How many American politicians have taken money from them for their election campaigns and are therefore beholding to them when it come to voting on gun control legislation.

Sometimes I wonder about some of the posters (Farang) on TV. You seem to think that bribery and corruption is something that only happens in Thailand.

Try looking in your own back yards !!! This government was elected democratically by a majority of the Thai people. It is the government that they want.

If you don't agree with them and/or don't like the government, try to become Thai Citizens and vote in

    in the elections.

If you really don't like it here there are many ways to leave the country, by air, car, train or boat. Then you can go back to your allegedly democratic, non corrupt, bribery free country.

Meanwhile, the government that the Thais want is really none of your business, just as the government that your countrymen want is none of the Thais business.

  4. Yeah, PAO is coming back and that is good news, but there is still quite a bit of business potential for restauranteurs wanting to offer better (and more authentic) Chinese food in Pattaya.

As far as British style Chinese food, I don't really know what that is, but what I've tried in Pattaya I'm guessing doesn't represent good examples of that. There is such a thing as American style Chinese food as well, and that is not authentic either but sometimes CAN be good. For example stir fried good quality beef with Western broccoli can be very delicious. I'd welcome any variations of GOOD Chinese food in town, American Chinese, Taiwan Chinese, Sechuan Chinese, you name it. Right now, its almost a desert here for Chinese food lovers.

I really don't understand that either. There is serviceable food here (and sometimes MUCH better) at at least at a number of places for other varieties of food here, including Korean, Indian, Iranian, and Italian, etc.. But Chinese really one of the most popular food types in the world, isn't happening in Pattaya.

I guess that the lack of a Chinese food as apposed to the others you mention, is due to the fact that we don't have many (or any) Chinese that have moved to Pattaya. The other ethnic restaurants are run by nations of the country whose food they serve.

The big hotels like Dusit, Royal Cliff and Montien have Chinese Chefs working for them but most are from Hong Kong or Hong Kong trained so that means Cantonese and of course they are pricy!

I lived in Honk Kong for 8 years and like good Cantonese cuisine, but there you also had the choice of good Szechuan, Peikinese, Teh Chew and other Chinese regional cuisines.

  5. Thanks for the advice/info guys, I ended up buying this one from Central department store - It's basically the same as the other one I posted but just looks a bit more modern. 799 baht total. I'm not sure how many liters it holds but it seems to do the job ok cool.png35d9es0.jpg

Can anyone tell me how the Auto Setting works on this Otto slow cooker. Does it start on high(and for how long) then switch to low, or is it just a keep warm setting??
  6. Good sentence.

However, it says in the article that molesting kids under 15 gets the 12 years. I thought the legal age is 18 in Thailand and it a statutory rape to have sex with anyone under 18? Or do you get harsher sentence for molesting younger ones, that would make sense I think...

In any case good to see that justice is done.

Age of consent in Thailand is 15, however if a foreigner is involved it is assumed that money is paid and the law that applies over 15 but under 18 is, corrupting the morals of a minor and leading a minor into prostitution.

  7. Pattaya a haven of filth and criminals , Tourists should beware . Parts of that place have its own smell that turn stomachs over. Good on the Daily Mail to highlight something that local media often try to hide, bad publicity.

    well

shit happens no matter where you live

    its not just Pattaya

Pattaya seems to have more than its fair share of filth. Foreigners are relatively safe compared to Thai women though, and what many of them experience, will never hit the newspapers ever.

Sadly much of the filth around not only Pattaya - but also Phuket and Samui are the foreigners !!! Lets not go Thai bashing because of the behavior of two miscreants.

In any tourist spot anywhere you need to have your wits about you.

Sadly there is too much Pattaya Bashing here. 've lived in Pattaya for more than 15 years ands never had any major pro9blems. I find it safer that any of the other cities I've lived in , in North America, Europe and Asia.

If you think rape only happens here have a look at the following link from the BBC on gang rapes in London

  8. Go Thailand Go, drive more tourists away! Tourism only accounts for 6% of GDP (323.5 billion baht)......hmmmmm, guess they don't need us!

This is the typical attitude I often see on this site. Nothing is being done to stop genuine tourists from coming to Thailand for holidays. These regulations are to stop the farangs that have no, or very little money, from abusing the system and using consecutive tourist visas, to live and often work, illegally, in Thailand.

As an earlier post said about going to Singapore for visa ( no money)

Why should the Thai government allow farang with little or no money abuse the system and break the law?

Genuine tourist who came here for their holiday ae always welcomed and the Government has done many things to make it easier for them including waving the visa fees for tourists for the rest of the year.

  9. TAN Update 17:00

Urupong intersection - scuffle between red shirt protesters and people "claiming to be yellow shirts"

Diverting rail/bus services to Bang Sue from Hua Lumpong - check with railway authority or bus company before returning to Bangkok.

VM under control but traffic limited.

Din Daeng Intersection, Rattanakosin Island and Urupong intersection still some concern.

What is TAN ch 26. Can I get it in Pattaya?

  10. Samak was elected. Suthep and friends have taken the law into their own hands. Abhisit and Suthep are the army's henchmen, that says enough. However the problem will not go away by locking up a million people.

Abhisit was elected also. You obviously don't understand how a parliamentary system of government works. Just lkook at countries like Israel, Italy or even Canada where the government changes sides between elections when there is a minority government and some of the coalition parties change there support if they don't like what the current side is doing. That is how the Parliamentary system of government is supposed to work and how it does work, even in Thailand

  11. Just getting to his thread now. I don't know if anyone is still looking at it. I guess I'll find out if someone answers.
