  1. Well I suppose they got the main things right no cock ups with the main transmissions. Dodgy english audio for Liverpool game, fine for all others. No interviews with players or managers is poor IMO. Even on the Thai station with TRUE they did a Premier live round up of all the goals after 9pm game. Nothing from CTH! It can only get better I suppose, early days isn't it.

Think we need to contact CTH about employing bb as a consultant on all farang issues ! all joking aside we need some Farang imput at CTH to get things running as we want, perhaps bb can put the e-mail address and we can all e-mail them.

Footnote : My audio was ok for the Liverpool game !

My audio was also fine for the Liverpool game.

  2. I know this is a bit off topic but while the funding via a trust account has really worked well, it is really just one benefit of the lawyer.

The idea of using a lawyer to reduce risk, especially for foreigner involvement, has many facets and applies to everyone whether you live in Thailand or not.

Here are some of the issues and risks where buyers can benefit from some professional help in Thailand: [1] there is no western style escrow system in common practice [i.e. your team must verify all deal points, the documents and the property beforehand], [2] there is generally very poor disclosure incentive/compliance by the seller, [3] valuations are tricky because of historically unreliable transaction records and [4] you are usually best off to negotiate the transfer taxes/fees at the same time as the price and terms [5] you want to be sure to protect your deposit and [6] that you have a strong contract such that seller is legally bound to deliver and not sell to someone else.

The actual transfer process is pretty basic, the buyer brings the money and the seller brings the deed, you lay them out on a table at the land office, and the officer massages the documents for a few hours and voila, transaction complete. For me, i give a power of attorney to my lawyer and let him go to the land office too. With all the potential things that could go wrong, it's better to have the lawyer check every thing and do the calculations first, otherwise? surprise surprise can rears its head or the deal can fall apart. A lawyer does add some cost to the deal, but it does reduce risk.

    Good luck!

Thanks so much for the excellent advice.

I know it varies from case to case, but any idea how much the lawyer's fee would be for a relatively straight-forward condo transaction involving the resale of a unit in an already completed building in Bangkok (both seller and buyer are foreigners)?

I just completed on a condo deal last week both myself and seller are foriegners and I paid b25,000 lawyers fees in Pattaya good service well worth it, as tropic says.... reduced risk.

  3. what numbers are the stadium channels? they don't seem to be showing up on my tv guide

its ok found out had to re do an auto search to have them show up 131-136

I also don't have the Stadium channels....did you auto search using Satellite or Cable CTH?

131-136 are on sat..on mine anyway

  4. Wrong, it is required.

I just joined a Thai language course here in Samui at a place called Thai Language Solutions.

I solicited ALL the schools here and they all asked for a bank statement.

Do your homework and you'll see for yourself.

50,000 baht is required, by the gov.

Sorry folks, but this is going by first hand experience.

Both myself and my wife are on ED visas and never asked for bank statements or proof of income.

  5. At immigration I usually show my Thai drivers licence as proof of where I live. This has always been fine.

How does one get a yellow book?

aTHAI DRIVERS LICENSE IS NO PROOF OF WHERE U STAY????

What if u left your existing property, would u change your thai license to the new address, i dont think so

My driving license has my address on the back in Thai so I presume if I move I would have to change it...right. Also a few days ago I went down to City Hall in Pattaya to apply for my yellow book only to be given two blue books for my condo for 50 baht (25 baht each) .When I was stopped by police a few weeks ago they asked me where I lived and checked it on my license,

  6. Sure thing.

It's better though to just pay the 10 baht in coinage.

So if you get baht bus from beach road Chaiyapruek 1 Jomtien to Central Festival Mall 2nd Road its only 10 Baht?

I'll tell you but you won't like the answer.

    Sometimes 10 baht.

    Sometimes 20 baht.

    It is not really defined.

This is another case of SITUATIONAL ethics which pervades the entire baht bus riding experience.

The official fare is 10 baht and 20 baht so for called LONG HAUL rides.

Long haul is not DEFINED anywhere.

So it's up to YOU to decide. It's also up to the drivers to react or not react if they don't like what you've paid.

My acid test, if you take that route 10 times and only one or two drivers object to the 10 baht fare, then 10 baht is the real fare.

If the majority react, then the fare is 20 baht.

Other factors are whether the bus had passengers or not.

If you were the only passenger on that route, all that way, I personally would pay 20 baht. That would be very rare. But on a normal situation, I would pay 10 baht and I reckon the majority of times the drivers wouldn't balk.

Some people are serious milquetoasts and don't want to ever chance that the driver may bulk, or they have an overactive guilt complex. Those people will often overpay when there is no reason to at all. Some people might think I have an overactive guilt complex to pay 20 baht on that route when the bus is empty, again, situational ethics, not black and white, not totally clear cut.

    OK, you asked ...

I don't use it much I use my bike but I agree, ive seen many drivers ask for more money and ive also seen people smoking on the bus many times

  7. I don't know how the EPL have done it. Price to screen EPL in my bar 2,500 baht. To show La Liga, which arguably has a superior product, on RS Sunbox, its 100 baht and Bundasleague, J League and Championship its 125 baht on GMZ. The EPL was boring last season and I am much more looking forward to seeing Messi, Ronaldo et al from Spain than I am the English matches. Bundasleague was a lot better and more entertaining too. How have EPL conned us all?

Count yerself lucky, mate. Costs 600 pounds upward for sat TV in a UK pub! Greedy bastards.

    Don't tell CTH.

Three years ago before I left UK for Asia I was paying 33 thousand pounds a year to Sky for sports pack for two bars in Liverpool total rip off.

  8. Option 1 - take it to a Honda and let them do it.

Option 2 - take it to a Honda and let them do it.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile apI

I thought the first service was 1000km,I agree with shurup Honda do first service for b200 ten minutes in and out. They only change the oil, dont forget to get your book stamped.

  9. Im just going to play badminton with my wife,we made a court on the condo roof a while ago its a bit windy 12 floors up but better than the dogs eating the shuttle cocks downstairs.

Swimming in the pool afterwards then off into town for a beer with my mate at 6pm ...sorted

  10. I went into the CTH agents shop on Pattaya Tai yesterday. He said satellite boxes are due to be delivered at the start of July. We've signed up for CTH via satellite, which included free installation in 2 rooms. Dish due to be installed after the weekend and the box once it arrives, hopefully in 10 days or so.

I went to Pattaya shop today, after they had told me 20th then 23rd, today she said July 2nd definitely...so hopefully,

Cheers for the update. As long as I'm ready by August I'm not panicking.

No problem, yes that's what I thought theres plenty of time yet so no panic.

  11. Something else to consider on the coastal places.

Both Davao City and Cebu City have chronic flooding problems, apparently getting worse, and climate change is implicated.

They could be adapted to lessen the flooding, but that would take competent government. 'Nuff said.

There was two earthquakes in Cebu last year when I lived there, not a good feeling sitting watching tv on the 9th floor of my apartment.I liked Cebu though it was nice there.

For me English-type breakfast at a nearby café in Talamban and a nice big latte and Ham and Cheese Panini at Seattle's Best Coffee in Ayala Mall,Cebu for lunch! tongue.png

I used to like TGI Fridays in Ayala Mall and Cobra Bar on Saturday nights live music.
