Do you consider everyone who drinks to be an alcoholic?
Thanks, Sambum. All what was written was "drinks". It was ResandePohm who suggested they were alcohol. Just the other day I was offered an iced tea. It was accepted in the happy spirit in which it was offered. Sheesh!

I'm hoping he won't have to buy any of his drinks when he next returns.

It's important to bear in mind that these 3 fellows possess an uncommon skill set. Very few do what they do. They have been deployed in other similar situations where most others are not able to go.
Let's all just be grateful that they were called in, as they definitely brought added value to this rescue operation. And leave it at that for the moment. The 'lessons learned' can wait for another day.

Amazing. One can only imagine how the families feel. Medals all round to the rescuers and all volunteers.

Oh, for <deleted>'s sake folk! Is the tragedy for the associated families diminished or explained by any of our armchair crime scene speculation of the how and/or why? It's a sh*t occurrence. Leave it at that. Console the grieving.

boggles the mind how inept the water management people here are
The Jewish folk came up with a 'good one' some years back: "Pride goes before destruction..." If only the management would humble themselves to seek advisement from a flood prone society that have managed well in such circumstance: i.e. the Dutch **sigh** To be fair, maybe the locals have misinterpreted the word 'dike'.

You're a day late and a dollar short.

"The governor of Udon Chayawut Janthon called on welfare services..."
Thailand has 'welfare services'?? Who knew?!

What's missing? I will go with:
The dumb farang who would ordinarily end up paying for the meal.

Oh! The

Wishful thinking I suppose, but I shall put it out there nonetheless:
If proper registration, verification and security measures were put in place, most (maybe all) of these services could be provided and conducted using today's technology, completely negating the need to physically go to the centres. Many of us are familiar and confident with online banking along with a slew of other financial transactions.
Maybe this is a first step toward that reality?
Ya... I know. TIT. What have I been smoking...?
**sigh**

That is good news, is it not?

Hmmm, Guilty until proven innocent.
Yes. That is exactly what I thought.
The article cites the DPM as inviting the abbot to defend himself. However, it does make for a sensational/exaggerated news headline. As per the norm.
Many of us are familiar with the burden of law resting on the prosecution to prove the innocent party guilty. One can only hope that the same international standards of justice are upheld by the judges here. Note the key word - "hope"

Anyone know where Khlong Bang Sue is located in Bangkok? I can't find it.
It ends at the Chao Phraya in Nonthaburi but following it back on a map it then disappears at Tiwanon Road.
It runs nearly at right angles to Ratchadaphisek Rd, south of Ratchadaphisek MRT station, and south of Chatuchak Market to the West. Zoom in here: https://goo.gl/Rw4ByR

"In fact, it’s best not to get angry at street vendors that use this practice either. The best thing to do is to calmly take your money and spend it elsewhere. "
That may be so, but it sure does feel good to vent one's spleen at that moment. And ain't it funny that the ones with the authority to make such changes are rarely, if ever, in the firing line of an angry farang, so as to fully appreciate the upset dual pricing inspires.

What!?? The fellow was going to ride it back to their country of origin?!! He just wanted to get back to his hotel/resort quickly when he saw an opportunity. He was responsible and sensible enough to leave it with the police. Yes, a misdemeanor - but only that. Not a crime, imo.

Whatever the motive, this is violent in the extreme and inexcusable. Being under the influence of drugs, alcohol, suffering from a mental disorder or, worse, if the perpetrator knew the victim and planned the attack due to a previous altercation - none of these should diminish the consequences for the offender once caught.
Most sincere condolences to the victim's family and friends. Tragic. Let's hope that justice will prevail. No sarcasm intended. This act is too serious to warrant us posters being sarcastic or flippant in that regard. I know: it's not the first time for such to happen in Thailand. Yadda yadda. But c'mon. For this family's sake, let's hope justice will be served.
