  1. I agree with Patong not being a great place but than you will not like Pattaya either, however Phuket has much more to offer than only Patong!

I have owned and lived on and off with Phuket being my Home base, in BKK, Hua Hin, Pattaya, Khao Lak , Samui and Krabi and for me Phuket is it and has all I need, Island life but not to small, Great Shopping if you want it, Bars and Night Life if you need it and some great ( some less great) Beaches!

Phuket is it, for my end of days, although in Hanoi/Vietnam for a couple of years of well paid work just now!

  2. Thanks for your great advise LM52LYN, best just to ignore people which make irrelevant and stupid comments so they get bored and move on!

Really great advise however I am trying to avoid going to BKK those days for obvious reasons and get things done here in Buriram and therefore I need to find a Local Vet who can get me some kind of documentation which I hope will get me with my Parrot (Cameron) through Laos and Vietnam!

Unfortunately he has no ring and no other documentation as was bought at a none commercial private breeder in Phuket last October!

I am very unlikely to go back to Germany with the Parrot or to live as my home base is and will always remain to be 1. Phuket, 2.Thailand or 3. Asia !

How to get the cites permit is still a mystery to me just now and do I really need it for the Overland trip, certainly I would for a flight!

  3. Absolutely, Cameron (my African Grey) was born in Phuket last September and I am just as attached to him as he is to me!

Thanks a lot Sheryl I will follow up your suggested leads however I am almost considering a overland trip now as I am in Buriram now and not to far from sawannakhet and the cost to get a van through Laos and Vietnam to Hanoi. Is just under 1000 US$ and I would maybe pay more than that by going back to Phuket, BKK for all the paperwork's and the overweight luggage on the plane anyway as well as I may enjoy the trip as I never seen those areas in Laos and Vietnam yet!

A petty not to go Home to Phuket, which is my ultimate Home Base before so and I need to find a Vet in Buriram to get me the essential required documents and Health certificates but there must be some "Chicken Vet" somewhere who can do this for me!!

Anyone know how relaxed the customs are at Laos and Vietnam border to get a Pet Parrot through, nothing a small bribe can not handle I hope??

  4. Does anyone have experience with moving a Pet or even Bird/Parrot from Thailand to Hanoi Vietnam?

I stay and work in Buriram now but will move to Hanoi and I want to take my African grey parrot with me and want to know what I have to do to do so/

Maybe it is better and more easy to travel overland, via Laos?

I know that some kind of Health Certificate which is International recognized is required which brings me to which Vets are qualified to do so

as most Vets in Thailand are only focusing on dogs and cats!?

I may go back to Phuket first as is my home base!

Any advice or pointers would be appreciated.

  5. Thank you tto the above replies so far!

A few years to go before i am 50 and I am not married to a Thai either!

I think that the Educational Visa be a better option to look at for me just now!

Yes Phuket has sadly drawn some bad characters lately and it's reputation is getting close to where pattaya is or at least was before!

    Any more thoughts?

Thanks again you been very kind and helpful.

  6. I am based in Phuket where i own a condo, I have done 2 Penang 60 days ( 30 days more from Phuket Immigration) Visa Run's!

When at Immigration last week the Tourist Police helper said that one is only allowed this one 2 times and that I have to leave Thailand for quiet a few month or even longer!

What are my options next for me to stay on longer, maybe a Visa Run company accepts more cash to get it done somehow or a Educational Visa for one year and learn Thai?

I used to work and have had Work Permits for years and a company handle all this but now I am in between jobs and look for a new job and i must find a way to stay as my life is here in Phuket!

Any advice and thoughts are very appreciated?

    Thanks and Best Regards

  7. I am having diffculties to decide between buying a Vespa LX150ie Urban Cool and a Click 125i!

My heart tells me I love the Vespa "Design, styling and Lifestyle feel to it but the Brain tells me Click in Thailand is more practical as any small corner garrage can fix it and anything for me at any time of the day (especially the flat tyres) as well as it may just be the better bike and engine except that Click is all plastic from outside and Vespa all metall as well as 52k (53k with idleling stop) in Phuket and Vespa 110k Baht!!

Also if Click, I really do not like the White,Blue and Black color concepts with the red in it and rather have the Black/Brown Click "forward" but it not have the ideling stop function!

Should I copromize the ideling stop for the color I want, how much does it really safe on petrol consumtion and/or is anything else diffrent on the 2 models?

    Any further thoughts be apreciated?
