  1. for all you who dont like the way thais drive, either learn to deal with it, or take a bus to suvarnabhumi, get on a plane and go back wherever you came from.... really tired of farong complaining about everything,,,, you dont have to live in this country, you are all here by choice,,, live with it or get the **** out,,,, but please just stop your old-man whining...

RIP to the norwegian man, and all the best to his gf for a speedy recovery

    I live here.

I spend 100% of all my money and salaries here.

I feed my family (wife) and her family.

I contribute with more funds to the society than 99% of the population does.

I have earned the damn right to complain about stuff here.

If you drive like them, it is because you lower yourself to their level of stupidity. The way they drive is completely heratic, stupid and without even a parcel of cleverness. Thailand is ranked 6th for the number of road casualities. This just means that they are the problem in here. As I previously said, the Thai roads are exceptionally safe. The people driving on it aren't.

Let me tell you about the discussion I had with a Thai not so long ago. We were talking about these small Esarn roads where the motorcycles drive illegally all the time. The surprise was when he told me that he drive "die for free". This means that if you hit someone, you just leave him there. Now, answer my question: why should I leave this country that I cherrish and love the most for the benefit of a "die for free" man who respect less his own race than I do? Obviously, you just taught the same way they does towards foreigners.

Besides, I had 2 car accidents since the last 6 months. The funniest part is that I haven't paid any dammage on my car, the Thais that were in infraction did. Thailand has exactly the same road safety code than any other country. The difference here is that the police won't run at you for a ticket if you commit an infration. Once you get an accident, the one who is in infraction is going to pay for the dammage of the others except if you die. Wanna drive like them? Just follow these driving "aces". However, do not get any car accidents because you might be the one taking the plane on your way back home after your jail sentence.

you has 2 car accidents in the last 6 months? And you post on a forum dedicated to a man who died on a motorcycle. interesting.

Where do you want to go with that statement? One Thai hit my car while parked and the second was a motorcycle deiving wrong way. Both times, police came and charged the Thais to pay the damages on my car. Need more informations?

  3. I just read that one and it makes me laugh!

Copied from the last post of webfact:

the major causes of road accidents are speeding, drunk driving, falling asleep behind the wheel, and abrupt lane changes.

Speeding = can be avoided if you are not stupid

Drunk driving = can be avoided if you are not stupid

Falling asleep = I guess it can happen to anyone. Don't take the wheel when you are tired...

Abrupt line change = only someone that doesn't know how to drive a vehicule does not check his dead angles before changing lane

  4. Thailand is ranked 6th in the world for the overall road casualities and ranked 1st for foreigners road casualities.

Let's be honnest, the roads are very safe in Thailand. People driving on it aren't. I can't wait to have the number of how many casualities happened because of an infraction but I can bet it is over 80%

  5. I once took a van from Bangkok to Pattaya and it was enough. The driver was going at 150 km/h on the freeway and sometimes peaking up to 160 km/h. He was driving so fast that the video I took on an HD camera is lagging. He missed an exit so he went reverse on the freeway. Scary moments.

When you think about that, the vans are the last transportation you want to take in Thailand. The drivers are paid for every trip they complete, what make them want to reach their destination at maximum speed. They also all have the LPG/NGV tank. These tanks are going to explode in case of accident. That is also the reason why it took 30 minutes for the fireman to extinguish the fire instead of 5 minutes on any other cars.

Another danger in case of accident, and this one is not only related to mini vans only, is about emergency responders. Most of them are poorly trained and they all fight to get the victim because the victim represent money. I helped once on a motorcycle crash and the rescue guy started bullshitting me to show how good he was. Of course, he wanted to carry the victim to the hospital for the money instead of letting me manage the situation and sending them to hospital with another ambulance.

This said, avoid mini vans and be careful when you drive your own vehicule. No one can with real knowledge can help you in this country. The safest way to travel in Thailand is by bus. Don't put your life in danger for 20-30 baht.

  6. The road safety code in Thailand is exactly the same as Canada, USA, UK or every countries all around the world. The fact is that the police does not enforce the laws and even if they want to, with which vehicule can they enforce the laws?

Once there is an accident, Thais have different strategies to make you pay instead of them. If you catch the rich or famous one, he is going to bribe the police and you are going to pay for the damages. If you catch the poor one, he is going to beg you not to make him pay because he does not have money.

Is that legal in Thailand to drive wrong way if you are a car or a motorbike, no.

Is that legal in Thailand to drive on the sidewalk, no.

Is that legal in Thailand to overtake another car on the left, no.

Is that legal in Thailand to overtake someone and turn on the lights in sign to the other guy to get his ass out of the way or he is going to kill you, no.

Is that legal for a scooter to ride on the highways in Thailand, no.

All of these are illegal here as they are in our respective countries but who is going to enforce it? The policeman in his box doing traffic is going to run at you? The policeman in his old rusty Thairung that can barely go up to 100KM/h?

Anyway, driving in Thailand is all about luck. Thais are easily distracted while driving a vehicule. Thais are also selfish and they all thing they are alone on the road. Thais does not look on their mirrors or at their dead angle. They press gas and look forward, that is it. If you are next to them and you does not break to let them pass, you are going to have an accident, it is as simple as that.

In resume, buy the biggest car you can with airbags everywhere for it to turn as a balloon when you have an accident because it is going to happen. Their book is a stupid move as they admit to the rest of the world that they does not follows the law.

I had an accident with a motorbike that was wrong way a few month ago. The motorbike driver had no helmet and no driver license. He was trying to intimidate me with his friends not to pay because he supposedly had no money. The police arrived and after telling them he was wring way and everything, he had to pay my new bumper. There are laws, they are going to enforce them if you have an accident or something.

So, all those that comes gere in Thailand and drive like shit, like most of the Thais does, do not complain if you have an accident and the police make you pay. Follow the rules and the day you are going to have an accident, it is going to be easier for you to claim your innocence and make the other driver pay.

Note: i also bought a camera to fix in my car. It only costs 1000 baht and is very useful in the case you have an accident.
