Do I need to show 400k in the bank for the initial non o visa based on having a Thai child? I don't mean the yearly renewal in country. I mean just going to Laos, Cambodia or Malaysia and applying for the 90 day single entry? Also....is that single entry o visa extendable by another 60 day?  Some sort of family extension because you're married or have a Thai child.

    1. I think you only need 200k for Thai child? But, yes, (non-seasoned) money is required everywhere now ... except perhaps Ho Chi Min city.

    2. The 60-day extension is allowed on the back of any type of visa (and on top of visa exemption too).

Following with interest.  The big limitation, for my purposes, with the Amity treaty, is that it doesn't let you own land.

Would love to hear more about startup costs and the work visa thing, though :)

Other than being able to work, is a work visa better than a retirement visa?  Obviously has downsides in terms of paperwork and investment.

Working will give you a path to citizenship.

You can have your opinion , but why do you  need to qualify mine as "Rubbish"  and I told you .

"It has happened to me"  are you calling me a liar?

    Please see underlined section

"In the past, if your passport expired within one year, you would be granted the permission to stay in Thailand until the passport expiry date.
Keywords: Mazars, Thailand, Legal, Visa, Immigration

    21 November 2013

You could then ask the immigration officer to transfer the stamps to the new passports and get the permit placed in your new passport for free.

However, a new immigration policy (effective August 2013) requires you to restart the whole process for permit extension application once your new passport is received. A fee of 1,900 Baht must be paid for this extension and the relevant documents need to be prepared for the application.

Therefore, to avoid unnecessary paperwork and cost, please check your passport validity in advance before the permit extension application is required."

My extension got moved to my new passport, in 2019.

Maybe the regulation that you quoted only applies when someone had received a truncated extension. (But there would be no logical reason to do that.)

Eventually someone is going to write, "Does that mean farang's pension income too."

Short answer would probably be "No," at least for those countries with bilateral tax agreements with Thailand.  If you're paying income tax in your home countries, then Thailand has no claim to tax the income twice.

But if it is pension income that is not taxable in your home country, then your argument doesn't apply. You could end up having to pay tax on your formerly tax-free pension.

Nonsense. Get an IDP and you don't have to sit the test. Then take your present license and the IDP to the DLT and see what they require, each office is different. I got a motorcycle and car license without doing the test.

You don't need an IDP if the foreign licence is in English.

    Hi all,

I am on a Non-IB visa and need to renew my driver's license (2 year -> 5 year).

I also have a digital work permit but this does not show my address.

So, one of the requirements to renew my driver's license is a certificate of residence.

In the past I have just gone to Hua Hin immigration to get this, however, I am considering perhaps getting a yellow book first then using that in the process of renewing my license.

My situation is that I reside in a house owned by my Thai partner (not married but registered as de facto spouse at Land Office for usufruct).

On the Chanote of the property it shows her name (in Thai) followed by my name (also in Thai) stating that I have a Usufruct.

    1) Is a copy of the Chanote (with my name in Thai) acceptable for immigration to issue a certificate of residence?

    2) In my situation, what would the process be to get a yellow book?

Any advice on these matters, particularly in Prachuap Khiri Khan or Petchaburi province would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

    1. You are not registered as "de facto spouse" at the Land Office nor anywhere else.

    2. Yes, a copy of the Chanote should be good
enough, along with the original blue book. As would a letter from her stating that you live in her house, together with her original blue book. Or you could bring her with you. But, ultimately, you need to ask YOUR local office what THEY want to see.

Broke my femur into three pieces in motorbike accident in America. The leg wound up 1cm. shorter. The femur is the strongest bone in your body and it takes a great deal to break it. He's lucky he's still alive. *^#@ happens, especially on a motorbike in Thailand.

The length difference can be corrected by a procedure called the Illizarov Technique that was invented in Russia.

    On the 15th Feb 2023 I moved in with G/F [...]

Now the plan is to go with the required Docs sometime in late June when the money deposited has been in my account for over 2 months to get the Retirement Visa as per their office paperwork received in English.

We have also had a visit from them at home where everything was very friendly, few photo's taken and our neighbors were interview and signed some paperwork, so all's good here.

    Hope this helps OP

Why on earth would they do a home visit for a retirement visa?!
