  1. I just read that if EC ruled on his case before endorsing him as an MP, they needed 4-1 majority to disqualify him. Now 3-2 is enough. Maybe that's why his case was delayed.

I think that was before and after the EC approved them Plus. Also the level of penalty went from one year to 5 at the same time. As I recall that date was about a month ago. I need to see that law to be sure so don’t quote me exactly on this.

  2. OMR, I see your point about a true emergency, however this group has cried Wolf way to many times using medical reasons to stay away and delay from the courts. I think the jabs are appropriate based on WOLF WOLF WOLF way too many times.

  3. EC finds Yongyuth guilty of electoral fraud charge

(BangkokPost.com) - Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday found House Speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat guilty of electoral fraud charge in the Dec 23 general election.

The five-member panel voted 3-2 to red-card him.

The ruling came after one-week delay, after Mr Yongyuth requested the panel to question one more witness before the ruling.

Mr Yongyuth, a list-MP for zone 1 covering Chiang Rai and other provinces in the upper North, was found by the sub-panel to have bribed local administrators in Chiang Rai to campaign for votes for the People Power party in the general election. He was a deputy leader of the PPP at the time.

  4. I agree this will not be good, and if I missed it the PAD should spell out exactly where the government tampered with the courts/legal system that is one of their key issues. I agree with the majority of your posts that this will not be good. There is one thing that seems to be missing and that it is was Thaksin’s goal to call for martial law in Bangkok. It appears he is not making the same mistakes twice. Martial law will probably come if any of the PAD protesters so much as fart citing it as an attack. under martial law they can stop any investigation into the corruption.

  5. People Power ready for headon collision with PAD

The People Power Party is ready to moblilise its 10 million supporters to counter the antiThaksin protests, MP Pracha Prasopdee said on Monday.

Pracha was reacting to the announcement by the People's Alliance for Democracy threatening to revive street protests to oppose the return of former prime minister Thaksin Shinwatra on grounds of the government's tampering with the legal proceedings to help him eluding the law.

"If the PAD becomes active, I plan to confront it by mobilising 10 million People Power supporters," Pracha said.

Although he doubted whether the PAD could attract the crowds to join its street protests, he would not allow PAD leaders to disrupt the restoration of democratic rule, he said.

"I will face them as they have no right to dictate their will on the country, including the ban against Thaksin from returning to his country like a Thai citizen," he said, issuing a counter threat to drive PAD leaders out of the country in order to ensure peace and normalcy in society.

  6. PAD threatens to revive street protests

The People's Alliance for Democracy on Monday issued a statement warning about the eruption of chaos if the government acts as a puppet of the Thaksin regime.

"It has been proven clearly that the Samak Sundaravej government is in fact the reflection of the Thaksin Shinawatra administration," the PAD said in the statement.

It claimed that the government was working to benefit one man, the ousted prime minister Thaksin, instead of serving 63 million people.

The government meddled with the media reports, removed DSI chief Sunai Manomaiudom who was in charges of many cases involving Thaksin and promoted Thawee Sodsong, seen as a Thaksin's ally, to replace Sunai just three days ahead of the announcement of Thaksin's planned return, it said.

  7. Interior Minister warns against anti-Thaksin rally

Interior Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung on Monday said he saw no justification for the People's Alliance for Democracy to stage a protest about former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra returning to his homeland.

"The PAD used to say it would allow the government a chance to prove its performance but today no work has started yet, hence I deem it unnecessary for a rally as Thaksin would come back as a Thai citizen," he said.

Chalerm said the PAD should reflect on its stand rather than rush to attack Thaksin without justification.

"The PAD onced allged Thaksin about being an unroyalist but refrained to showing its accountability after the Office of the Attorney General had dropped the charges," he said.

He said he would not intervene with pro and antiThaksin rallies, if held, although he would ensure there would be no confrontation between the rival groups.

He said the definite date about Thaksin's return should be finalised by tomorrow.

Sounds like the very first hint the new government will not allow protests. Apparently democracy is already starting to flounder under the Thaksin controlled government and being replaced with what looks more like a police state.

  8. Marshbags, your last few posts about the flamers and spoilers is well put, and regular readers of this forum do know who they are. The conclusion is it is intentional for whatever reason. The elaborate use of words to attack posters that are trying to have a “Mature” discussion. One of the things I have discovered about this forum is because of the relatively small ex-pat community, people do know who the posters are by their real names and where they live. Because of that their online foul reputation leaks into their personal life. That usually starts with a casual conversation that includes “I post under the name of ....” that eventually gets around particularly when the topic requires oil. So the veil of anonymity of the Internet is very thin here. Perhaps I see it more because of what I do.

As for the future of this, I am sure everyone is fully aware of the fork in the road that we will see tomorrow when the EC rules. That ruling will define the direction of Thailand and hence the direction the these threads. Either choice has it’s own perils and dramas.

  9. As I said the more frequent use of :o Will be seen. Apparently there is not enough smarts to go around to tackle the problems that face the country. This is getting to be so much like the person that lied to get a job and now is discovering he has not a clue what to do and can’t fake it for long. The question remains how long before he is fired.

  10. Well it certainly looks like things are very quickly winding up to street protest levels. It is also looking more and more like this government has not a clue what to do, and the people with brains are smart enough not to join them. I don’t know if I should comment on Tony’s prediction that they will fail by April, but based on the inability to perform, there is a good chance Tony could be right. I like the rest of the world am waiting to see what the EC have to say tomorrow. They have noticeably absent from the news on this ruling on Mr. Y.
