We have a house upcountry which has been infested with rats. They live in the roof space above the suspended ceiling and, by all accounts, are wise to the traps/bait/poison that have so far been tried. The rats are chewing cables and have also chewed the flexi-type pipes that feed the water to the washing machine. Has anyone had any luck with sonic repellent devices, or are they a waste of money? A Thai friend who lives in the UK bought 2 of these gizmos via a TV shopping channel and brought them to Thailand, she reckons they work, I am not so sure. What can get rid of them? I thought the local Thais would have this boxed off, send in a couple of trained and highly vicious mongoose/ferret types? Thinking on, the rats are probably big enough to hold their own. Any ideas?

Travis Bickle....
June twenty-ninth. I gotta get in shape. Too much sitting has ruined my body. Too much abuse has gone on for too long. From now on there will be 50 pushups each morning, 50 pullups. There will be no more pills, no more bad food, no more destroyers of my body. From now on will be total organization. Every muscle must be tight.

Re: (Pattaya Paint Drying Watchers Club). I would like to be considered for membership of your club.
My favourite paint is the emulsion that goes on Pink, but dries White (for ceilings etc). Now that's some clever paint. You can see where you've missed before it dries.
I hate glossing but would consider latex.
Any chance of a pic of the Dulux Dog?
PS I am also interested in Flock Wallpaper, sorry if this has been pasted elsewhere.

I loved the swimming pool on the roof, 900 Bht for 6 months pass (maybe more now?). Also good for cutting through from 2nd Rd to Beach Rd, aaahh.. nice A/C and pleasant staff as you saunter on through, to do what it is that you do.

I was recently in Tukcom with a friend who wanted to add RAM to his laptop. He bought 1GB of Type 1 DDR RAM for 1,000 Baht from Wattana computers (2nd or 3rd floor), immediate right as you come off the escalator. I don't know if this is competitively priced or not but the guy in the shop seemed OK, he fitted the chip and then showed my buddy that everything was working fine.

Talking about insects. I had no problem handling the mantis and thought he was quite cool.
Later that evening, we were sitting in a makeshift sala when the Scorpion turned up. Don't know how dangerous it was but the Thai lads were not bothered.
The Scorpion ended up in some guys shirt pocket and I was told it would end up mashed into a "balaa" (spelling) paste and eaten.
These photos were taken on my last visit up to my Wife's village. Going there again next week with my Mum and have been winding her up about what to expect
Just a bit of fun here. Not detracting from the concerns of Guys/Gals with kids/family who are worried about stings and bites.

I used LP guides for years and prefer them to Rough guide and Let's Go (crap). I do, however, think they are biased. For example:
LP gave Pattaya a good slagging, (apart from the Adult Entertainment on offer) they stated that "Bratwurst Mit Brot" is more readily available on the streets of Pattaya than Khao Phat. They also said that eating cheaply there meant KFC or MacDonalds. What utter twaddle!!
They also say that Pattaya is a seaside resort with no "Thai ingredients" but then go on to talk about other areas (Koh samui, Koh Phang Gan, KSR) and how you can get the most scrumptious pizza, banana pancake, (substitute your own comfort food if your away from home).
Don't get me wrong, the LP guides can be helpful but can be misleading.
Their take on my own home town was a bit off the mark but then again I appreciate that the guides are aimed at visitors with possibly limited time to visit.
I remember crap T-Shirts with "In Lonely Planet We trust" or something being flogged around traveller's ghetto areas, I never bought one but nearly bought the fisherman's keks!! (Not really).

This may be worth a try:
1. Restart your system
2. When the system first boots, type F8 to bring up the boot menu
3. Select the Safe Mode with Command Prompt option
4. Log-on as administrator if needed
5. At your command prompt type
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
6. Hit Enter
6. This will open the system restore wizard...
Then follow the prompts. hope this helps.

There is a very nice Temple complex on the main drag south of soi post office about 16 blocks. It runs east from beach road.
It's the road with all the gold shops down towards the end and lots of produce markets and large department stores stores. Blanking on the name right now. The temple is on the left on your way out of town.
Also the complex up on the top of the mountain at the south end of town is not bad. Ther is a restaurant and some interesting outdoor statues and gardens.
It's a little touristy but nice for a change of pace...
I think the temple Pepe means is called Wat Chaimongkol, opposite the covered market and a little bit further up from the school on the corner of the crossroads.
The temple on the hill is next to a radio station with gardens and a statue overlooking the bay. This has a large Urn/Brazier type thing that you can set off firecrackers to help with your merit making. Good fun!

Buy one here and save the worry
Where are you from, remember there are things like power voltges, TV standards, game regions (not sure about the XBox there), which could thwart your good intentions
Hi Crossy, I am bringing it from the UK. It will work in Thailand (PAL) 220-240 Volts with a plug adaptor for the power. I'm taking it over along with about 20 games and I am worried about customs getting funky with me (after reading another thread about people being stung for relatively minor offences like tobacco, liquor etc). I'm not sure about the Thai rules on bringing in electrical goods and I don't plan to take it back out when I leave.
I'll see what happens anyway. A few large changs and a game of HALO 2 will surely go down well with family.

Not sure where to post this so I have put it in the general topic section. I would like to bring an XBOX and a few games to give to family on my next trip. I am a bit worried about customs and duty etc after reading posts about customs at the new airport being particularly keen on what arriving passengers are bringing with them. Any info appreciated. Thanks.

I think the glue traps might be the way forward. Thanks!
