  1. Hi,

I have stayed on Samui a few times but it was during May-August. This year I will be luckily escaping Ireland for Christmas and plan to be on Samui around mid-late December. Is the situation alot different regarding tourist numbers and is accomodation difficult to find?

Lots of people are saying pre-book everything but I cant see me not being able to find accomodation with a bit of shopping around.

    Thanks

  2. troll?

We really need to get out of this mentality that anyone with a low post count is a troll.

Lets just give her the benefit of doubt, innocent until proven otherwise?

I see your point, (hence the question mark) but she is only one year older than the Horton girl, and mentions being alone on beaches just after the Horton case, I just wanted everyone to be aware of the possibility before accepting possible troll bait, oh and she is a newbie too. I could be right, and I could be wrong, but it is a possibility, and i did use a question mark to show it as a maybe :o

Not everyone is freaked out by that. I know a 20 year old girl who recently booked a trip to Thailand traveling alone that had heard about the case.

Thailand is a safe place to Travel alone if you apply simple common sense like someone would in their home country. Most travellers end up falling into groups of people so it's very rare that you will actually be travelling alone most of the time. Try visit Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phi Phi and I would highly recommend Laos!

  3. You seem to know the score already then Mark, why the post? With Samui and Phi Phi et al, you can double my figure. Obviously you can go the odd day without spending much but what's the point if you're only here for a couple of months? Live a little.

Well as I said above im curious as to what others spend in a month. I don't find the budget has to double down in Samui. I like to stay in Lamai and find prices quite reasonable.

Sorry if the post is repetitive but im sure some people will get use out of it.

  4. 30,000 per month and up I reckon. Sounds like you're going to be budget travelling like a backpacker as you mention buses etc. If you're going budget then a half decent guesthouse out of Bangers will be about 300 per night. Eating off hawker stalls and noodles will save you loads, as will drinking Chang and Leo beer instead of the European beers. Budgets are usually lost on beer and tarts...sorry, not very pc...ladies, but you say preferably no bgs, so you'll definitely save there big time. Basically, you could get up and down the country for a couple of thousand by using buses and trains, but always worth keeping an eye on the budget airlines here as they often have good deals, although if you're travelling you'll no doubt be wanting to stop off everywhere.

Other things to be wary of if you're on a budget are the fast food western joints as you'll spend three times you would on a Thia meal and you'll be hungry again in an hour. Places like Phuket and especially Samui will seriously eat into your wedge and the problem with Bangkok is, you have to spend money to be entertained...no beach! Saying that, there's always the sky train I spose. :o

    Good luck!

Well im not the backpacker sharing a chang type but I guess I do fit into the backpacker category. I will be staying in the Mandarin hotel in Bangkok and fairly decent resorts around the place. I'm going from Bangkok-Laos-Bangkok and in no other particular order, Samui(my favourite), Phangan, Tao, Phuket and Phi Phi to do a bit of volunteer work. Cambodia and Vietnam don't interest me much and I can always see them again because it won't be the last time I visit.

My whole visit will be nearly 2 months in lenght and this question isn't for help, it's for curiosity and I know plenty of people can benefit from threads like this. I know I did when I first planning.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  5. Are you going to be travelling through Thailand then?

I was getting through 1,000 U.K.P per month quite easily.

I was not being extravagant or frivilous but I did have a big budget and you find that you will adapt to whatever your budget may be.

However, if I knew then what I know now, I would have had the experience and knowledge to avoid unnesessary spending.

I will be travelling through Thailand and it's not my first but I was just curious to see what everyone else spends preferably without BGs.

    I go 3 months a year ( 3 times 1 month ) and this is roughly what i spend .

Accomodation : take small house 10000 baht a month including electricity and water and cable tv . Before i took hotels and i still do that when staying in BKK for 2 or 3 nights , never pay more then 1200 baht/day .

Food & drinks daytime : between 300 and 700 baht

travel : ??? what does travelling mean ??? i guess , you mean taking transport without planetickets . I have a motorcycle , but before i rented 1 , say standard price is 200 baht/d + fuel . Say 200 baht a week , not more (probably half of that but whatever ) . In BKK , skytrain when possible , at night taxi , so say 200 baht a day .

    Beer : i call that nighttime venue ... anything between 300 and 5000 baht . Take a average 1500 to 2000 / night .

    Thanks for your reply.

Travel meaning if you started off in Bangkok and traveled to Laos, then down south etc. Bus and boat journeys or whatever.

  7. If you want all that, with good prices too, try Chulalongkorn University's pharmacy, next to Siam Square,  across from MBK, near the covered footbridge.
And that's a direct hint, AsiaWolfie, about your other enquiries on, ahem, enhancement products

    As a "heads up":

In Thailand, Viagra isn't legal as OTC and it's presciption is well regulated.

Therefore, any pharmacy that sells it OTC, is selling it illegally (many do).

One might wonder what other laws/practices they chose to ignore.

I found that I could go in and buy anything in the pharmacy while in Thailand. Xanax and ephidrene.

  8. Hey,

I will be travelling to Thailand for 6 weeks in 2 weeks time. I know that when I enter the country i'll be automatically on a 30 day tourist but someone has brought to my attention that I will need an additional visa even though I will be leaving Thailand for Laos and re-entering.

Is this true? From what I have read online and on message boards I guess it's ok once I leave and re-enter.

You do not need a Thai visa but you will need a visa for Loas. Can get that in Nong Kai, but you are in the wrong forum old boy.

Yeah I am aware of the the Laos visa for 30 dollars. Sorry about using wrong forum

    thanks,

  10. I wonder what your scan results would be if your atherosclerotic plaques were fatty deposits that didn't contain calcium?

It's my understanding that the calcium lining on the plaque is the bodies natural reaction to the build up of plaque. I'm not sure about the fatty deposits actually containing calcium.

Out of interest. If you have a build up can that be reduced or moved away with change of diet and stuff? or is it a case of whats there is there?

  11. I have some questions,

*Does anyone know if theres buses going from Ekamai to Pattaya in early hours of morning?

*If the first bus is say at 5am,is there anywhere in the airport i can sit?

          * If i decide i will go straight to Pattaya by cab and arrrrive at say 5am in pattaya ,will they charge me the prevoius nights room?

*What do u all do if your arrrriving in the early hours of the morning?

*Is the coffee shop/mcdonalds open at the arrrrivals section at that time of morning?

Whoa, Billyboy, you must've been a handfull for your parents with loads of questions :D You might just jump in a cab, head down to Patters and check straight in- it'll be after midnight afterall and that usually means a brand new 24 hour day starts then as well. Enjoy! :o

Yep thats true. You will actually get longer in your room.
