  1. "Hey Ref.. for God's sake send me off will you , I have already played for a hour and I've got some really good Spiderman Comics that I want to finish off reading" :D

    You mean he can read?????

    :D:D:D:o:D:D:D

  2. I have never paid import duties on anything shipped by ordinary mail. This includes books, clothes, food, bike parts and a ...bicycle worth 2,000 $!!

Nevertheless...I made the mistake of ordering some sport clothing and ship it by UPS and I got smashed by the 60% hammer!!! :o

  3. Let me get this straight. The OP posts calling a place that is home to many posters and loved by many 'a shithole' and people like Sing Sling seem to think that we should give him a kiss and a cuddle, carry him to the airport, and fix him up in a Aus$100K a year job.

Well I suggest we beat him up like a White Beggar and thrash him within an inch of his life.

Ask yourself this what was his motive in posting? To get a flaming or reasoned replies?

    He's got what he wanted!

Posts like this just show a growing sort of people that populate TV these days, and to some extent...Thailand.

Bet they are not missed at their countries of origin either...

  4. My favorite quote is from my wife. The day when we are not busy she likes to sleep in really late. When I asked her why she sleep in so late when we can spend time doing something together, she always has the same reply, "I enjoy sleeping because after I die, I'll never get to sleep again" :o

not sure where she get it from, but makes sense to me, so now I start to get up late also :D

Well, in my country we use to say "I'll sleep when I´m dead"

  5. Regarding the quality and resolution of the scan, if it is film (and not slide film), the quality will not be acceptable to sell it as photostock, due mainly to very obvious grain.

I second comments about IQ labs. They are the only shop I trust with dealing with my stuff. Wasted enough time shopping around already...

  6. One/twice a year.

Did not run away from anything, have the cash to do it, family and friends back home...and the 14 hours in the plane are soon forgotten when sipping a glass of good wine sitting by the sea back home in good company...

Fortunately I come from a country with good weather, beaches, affordable good food and wine and with definitely more nightlife fun. (Maybe that is why you see fewer southern Europeans than Swedes, Brits,Dutch,...around the streets of Bangkok)

Coming to Bangkok meant that now I have two families, two houses, two groups of friends...so I guess moving here made a definite improving to my life!

  7. I used them for the last couple of flights back to Europe. I can usually get the same prices as they offer if I book well in advance, otherwise they have beaten what I have been able to find so far.

Good service, plus they have a "brick" place too in case you are not comfortable with dealing them on the net.

  8. T-Bone are probably the biggest ska-reggae band in Thailand.

You can check how they sound at Saxophone bar in BKK every Fri or Sat at midnight, since their are the resident band...You can talk to them at the end of the show.

Should you not be able to make it, PM me and I will get you in touch with them...

  9. Stop excusing Thais for refusing to lose face. ......... But this face saving epidemic needs to be tackled with the same urgency as Asian bird flu if Thailand is to compete successfully with the rest of the world (something I am sure the current CEO would like).

Anothern Westerner judging the Far East and its culture....the Far East where more than half of the world population lives. You are talking about Thailand here, but the 'losing face'-isue is all over Asia, like for instance China, with 1.3 Billion people with a culture which has a few thousand years of their own culture and 'losing face' experience.

    Who are we to judge?

Instead we, at least, should try to understand more of the culture in other countries.

Saying the things you said shows YOU have no idea!

    LaoPo

..Most of my thai friends and colleagues would agree with the post above. They see the "loosing face" issue as old fashioned, stupid, an excuse to get away with a million things, plus one of the reasons this country is not moving forward faster.

I run a company where my and my colleagues (who are all thai) call shit by its name, and everybody is quite happy that we do it. I never had any big problem telling somebody that their work, behaviour, performance,...were not up to expectations. I do this in a clear, but respectful way...which is what I would do anywhere in the world, and it has worked fine so far.

Also, many of my clients (who are 90% thai too) have told me in many occasions that they prefer to work with us over other companies because of that very same reason...

Now, if you prefer to let any big haired khunying jump the queue at the bank because you are afraid or making her loose face...go on collecting culture awareness points...I just did not do it today! :o

  10. I just notice a new place called Texas Steak House opened in Sukhumvit 31 just before the intersection to turn to Samitivej.

The owner offered me a tour of the place and drink since it had just opened for business the day before. They have beef, ostrich and venison steak. The place looks really nice inside, with one big room that you can book for parties. Did not stay for a meal though.

Anybody has been there at all that can comment?

  11. Books take more effort and time than movies, so I do not expect this topic to be as popular as its fellow one on movies. Also spacing out in front of a book is much less fun...

Are there any books (those things with many letters in them for those not acquainted) you read more than once, periodically, or even over and over???

    For me it is...

    Julian - Gore Vidal

Misteries of Pittsburg - Michael Chabon

    Glue - Irvine Welsh

    Generation X - Douglas Coupland

    or anything by Albert Camus

    :o

  12. All of those previously mentioned are what could (politely) be called 'tourist tailors.' For a local tailor of high reputation, got to Art's. If Art's is too expensive (and it is bloody expensive), try Tanika on Sukhumvit just east of the Sheraton Grande. Excellent work, completely reliable, and medium-priced.

    How expensive is bloody expensive??

  13. I personally cannot put up with all the crap displayed by guys like Manhattan´s. I know for a fact that many of their fabrics are fake, for the simple reason I know one of their suppliers. Went in there only once, where my thai friend (mistakingly taken by my tour guide) was offered 10% of everything I bought, which of course...was none.

My favourite is Yorkshire´s at the Peninsula. Not the cheapest nor the fastest one for sure, but a serious and professional business.

Two fitting sessions and quality fabrics. He tailors the suites for the TG pilots.
