  1. Hi does anyone know of a BBQ fish restaurant just south of central pattaya? I've been with my girlfriend a few times over the last few years. Alas I am no longer with her but this restaurant was fantastic. It har a large bbq grill with large salt coated fish that they would bbq. Served with a selection of leaves the hat you would put bits of fish, fresh ginger, some herbs, crushed peanuts , noodles and some sause and roll up the leaves and pop it in your mouth. The restaurant seated about 60 was outdoors and had a few large tv screens. It was down a side road. I use to drive there but it was always dark and I just can't remember the location.

  2. Hi

I have recently developed some life threatening allergies which came to light after taking a nasal decongestant in London.

Following some tests I now understand I am allergic to:

    Aspirin

    Anti inflammatory's such as Ibuprofen

Polyethylene glycol (commonly known as PEG)

This is a complete pain in the backside for me as I know need to check all over the counter medicines and even things like shower gels, other personal hygiene products and household cleaning products to see if they contain any of these things.

Anyway, I am going to order a medical bracelet which will highlight these allergies but as I spend some of my time in Thailand I was wandering if anyone in the know had the Thai translations for these items so I could get them engraved on to the bracelet?

Any help appreciated.... who knows you may help save my life one day!!

    Thanks

  3. Hi

My better half has visited the UK on a UK Visitor Visa about 5 or 6 times with no problems. She has a daughter from a previous marriage who has turned 18 and we would like to bring her over to the UK for a month next year for a holiday.

She is at school at the moent but is starting to apply for universities and by the time she visits (next April), a university place should have been confirmed. She will be travelling to the UK with my gf. She will be staying for about a month but my gf will be staying longer and therefore they travel back separately.

    • Will the daughter have to apply for a UKVV seperately to her mother now that she is 18?
    • Will she need her own passport now that she is 18?
    • I will be acting as sponsor for both but I will not be able to show any evidence of a relationship with the daughter apart from lots of photo's of us all over the years - how do I overcome this?
    • The daughter doesn't have a bank account and therefore can't show any evidence of earnings (she's still at school)

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Taz

  4. Hi

TGF is coming to the UK for 3 months. She's never had travel insurance and thank god, she has never needed it but this time we'd both feel better if she took some out just in case.

Having never purchased it before, I was hoping for some recommendations. Is it better tot ake out in the UK with a UK company or in Thailand? How much should one expect to pay (ball park) and what kind of cover would that get you?

    Many thanks

  5. Never been to LOS this time of year. Travelled a fair bit round Thailand over the years but mostly had TGF and her/my kids. This visit will just be gf and me and we just want to chill. Don't mind splitting the trip over 2 places. We enjoy culture and not too over run with tourists. I've driven a lot in LOS so staying off public transport is no problem.

Any suggestions? We're in our early 40's. I have no problem roughing it a bit!!!

    Cheers

  6. Thanks for trhe replies

    7 & 8 are quite specific...

    7. Copy of your detailed flight itinerary and/or copy of ticket in case of purchase

    8. Hotel Reservation or hotel voucher and/or original notarized letter of invitation from your sponsor in Morocco

If we are only planning at the moment and don't have exact dates (as I am hoping to get a last minute deal), how would you recommend I deal with this? Or is there no way round it.. I have to book and say this is how we are arriving and we are staying here

The visa app form also asks for an arrival date - aghain I don't kow this yet.

    Thanks

  7. Evening all...

Its been a while since i've visited this site. Hope all of you are well and enjoying the olympics.

Surprisingly for me and my TGF I am really liking traidional thai music. I beieeve a lot of it comes from Isaan. I'm usually into soul, RnB, hip-hop and rap with the odd but of rock music so this is something a little bit .....erm actually a lot different for me but I find it relaxing and a lot of the beats and melodies quite hypnotic!

Anyway, I am struggling to find anywhere I can buy it on the web. There are some sites that come up when I google it but they are not sites that I am familiar with so I am reluctant to put my card details in.

Can anyone recommend some albums or singers that I should search for or websites that are safe and good for downloading this kind of music?

There 's one song in particular that I really like its buy a singer called Prisana Wongsiri aka Kai and the song is called Mon rak mae nam which I believe is Moon River Love?

Going back to LOS later this year but I want some of this on my mp3 player now!

Thanks in advance for any help.

  8. Hi

My GF is from KPP and I have been visiting her family there for several years. One of her family has a house in Nakhon Chum. About a hundred meters from the house, by a stream which leads to/from Mae Ping river, is an old ruined house. Its a few hundred meters from road AH1 after the junction with Thanon KamphaengPhet.

My GF tells me this house belonged to King Rama V and he used to stay there. Although just a stream in front of it now, it used to be much wider than it currenty is and there were no houses nearby. Her family tell me there were big processions held there with many men in uniform...military men and old style barges.

The house is in a complete mess now with the wood all warped and rotten but you can imagine how grand it must have looked when in use. Although I have walked around the ground floor in recent years I wouldn't risk it now and certainly have not ventured up the rickety stairs.

The land around it is overgrown with weeds and I was wandering if any one knew any thing about the history of this house at all? When I get home tonight I will try and upload a few pics.

Given how revered Rama V is I would have thought this house would have been better taken care of with some official recognition but there's not even a plaque.

Any info on this would be appreciated and I think quite interesting.

    Thanks

  9. Hi

Thakds fro the replies and very useful info. I've just looked at the route on google mapy and it seems a long way round to go. All the way up to Tak, then across to to mae Sot and then down to Umphang...just as you say Rakman.

I can see route 1116 comes west for a while towards route 1090 but then it shoots back up north. Does anyone know of a rout that links these two roads? I could only see dense jungle/ forest areas

I think I'm in for a long, long drive!

    Thanks

  10. Hi

I may be planning a trip to the above after Sonkran and wanted any useful info.

I'll be driving there from Kampaengh Phet in a 4x4.

    I have the following questions:

Is it far from KPP and how long to drive there (aprox)?

How long would you recommend is needed to see the falls and what else is there to do there?

Are there plenty of hotels around?

My GF just told me her frind said there have abeen a lot of fatal accidents around the falls but wasn't sure what caused them - is this true?

We'll have 2 kids with us aged 10 and 15 - is it suitable for young visitors?

Many thanks as ever for any replies.

  11. Wow! More replies than I was expecting - thanks guys and many options to think about.

I did think about the bus from Ekkamai. I've done ythat trip before too many years ago and didn't know if I could be bothered busing it with luggage but I suppose I could give it a go.

Yes, £50, back in 1998... first time in Thailand and I didn't have a clue. I thought I was getting a good deal having compared the price with a 2hr trip in a taxi in England! I'm wiser now.

Thanks again for the helpful advice.

  12. Found a 3 bed villa in Baan Balina, Huai yai which appears to be good value at £250 GBP for the five nights but its a bit of a trek to town at about 14km. Perhaps I am being a bit too expectant for what I can get nearer town for the cash I want to pay!

Maybe I should ditch the family and pary on my own!!! My life wouldn't be worth living if I did that but what a way to go out! Heh heh.

  13. Hi

Spent all day looking and finding nothing suitable! Can anyone recommend either a similar set up as Jiu Jitsu recommended - 2 bed suite in a hotel and a separate room , or, a 3 bedroom house for rent for 5 nights only arriving Apr 15th and leaving Apr 20th. Should be on a baht bus route preferably although I may be renting a car.

Nothing luxurious but family friendly, clean and safe.

    Any recommendations gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks

    Tariq

  14. Thanks Jiu Jitsu - an option I will look at although not being on the baht bus route puts me off a bit.

BB1950 - thanks for your reply too. A bit of laziness on my part for not Googling i the first place and getting recomnedations is more preferable for me but I will Google anyway.

    Cheers

  15. Hi

Coming to Pattaya for Songkran. Only ever stayed in hotels but this time have my son, gf and 3 kids so hotels looking a bit more expensive. Can any one recommend a place to rent with 3 bedrooms in or around Pattaya/ Jomtiem.

Has to be clean and safe and family friendly as have kids aged 10-15. Not looking for luxury and has to be within short distance of Pattaya central.

First time taking my son to LOS, he's 23. Pattaya for Songkran and then on to Koh Chang and Kanchanaburi - can't wait to see what he thinks! I remember my first time, it was mind blowing and I fell in love with the Country.

    Cheers

  16. Hi Guys

Will be travelling from Kao San Rd to Pattaya with my son on Sunday April 15th. I haven't done this trip since 1998 and it cost about £50 back then booked through a travel agent in BKK. Just so I know what to expect, how much am i looking at and what is the best way to arrange it?

    Cheers
