What is your plan for a medical emergency?

Thanks for the detailed report. Very interesting.

I believe the correct routine for road running is to have two pairs of shoes. You only use one pair for running, keeping one "new" pair unused. About once a month you run in the "unused" pair. As soon as you can feel a difference between the two you buy a new pair and repeat.
I spent probably a decade or two using two pairs of shoes, and rotating them between runs. Now a single pair works fine for me and causes no problems.
Of course I am no longer running marathon distances, and usually alternate between a run on one day and a solid bike ride on the other day at this point in my rapidly aging life.

how about cushioning shoes? i hear under armour is now making shoes.
Again, everybody makes cushioned shoes. One of the more important parts of choosing a running shoes is to first determine the type of shoe that matches the foot of the runner.

pounding on the body is not good.. how can one argue with running on air? nike is a nasty company now though. i wish thier patents would be taken off so other shoe companies could utilize air technology
Actually research is showing that the jarring of running is actually good for the joints over time. Cyclists and swimmers seem to face some later aged problems because they have not had that jarring over the years.
And every running shoe, unless one goes for the totally minimal shoe, has a degree of cushioning. Is cushioning via air vs. gel vs. foam better? It really depends on the runner, the running surface, the amount of running, etc etc.
As the late great running philosopher Dr. George Sheehan told us, each of us is an experiment of one.

Great copy paste skills, I think we have already been through all this though, I meant to say why would they change their mind and issue a request for his arrest?
In your previous post you seemed to be referring to Interpol changing their mind and issuing a request for an arrest. Whom are you referring too here?
Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app -
If Interpol suddenly changed the decision they made 10 years ago to not issue a warrant for his arrest? And why would they do that?
“When INTERPOL publishes a Red Notice this is simply to inform all member countries that the person is wanted based on an arrest warrant or equivalent judicial decision issued by a country or an international tribunal. INTERPOL does not issue arrest warrants.”

We flew EVA for the first time this past November from the US to BKK and will return in April. We liked the flight very much and it was nice to leave late at night and arrive in BKK in the middle of the day as opposed to our normal arrival times of around midnight.
I also do like their upgraded economy section.
One problem I have is that I find it difficult to reserve round trip tickets since we depart a bit inland from the coast. EVA is happy to make us a round trip reservation from Seattle, for instance, but then it is up to us to get back and forth, to and from Seattle.
I want to check in our baggage in Spokane, WA and not see it again until we hit BKK, and expect the same in the return flight.

how often do u replace shoes
I replace my shoes every four months, which equals to approximately 400 miles or so per pair. And you can’t really look at a pair of shoes to determine if they are worn, much of the wear is internal.

everybodys foot has a different shape and thus certain brands of shoe work best for them. but its kind of hard to argue with a good nike air full foot air shoe. walking on air? how can that be beat? in usa nike has policy i think 30days returnand u can even go running in them to try. but i dont think that offer is good in thailand. try before u buy. how can u beat that
The challenge is that every shoe brand offers different types of shoes to fit different types of feet. There are motion control shoes, stability shoes and neutral types of shoes.
One really needs to know a bit more about a person’s foot before making any recommendation

Get onto interpol and have them both arrested and returned to Thailand to face justice.
Who would you suggest do the arresting? As pointed out earlier Interpol has no authority to arrest anyone.

Interpol has no agents than can arrest. The organization functions as an administrative liaison among the law enforcement agencies of the member countries, providing communications and database assistance.

Say it to your surgeon when you will be at hospital.
Well, I am 67 years old and have been running for almost 41 years. I ran and also swam this morning and also ran yesterday.

Running has never been safe, especially for older people.
Using an elliptical machine is the only smart way to run.

Spokane al im not criticizing u . u are blessed to able to do this. many cannot though. i have gotten spinal degeneration from activities you are suggesting. my suggestion is to take it easy. look at any triathlete from the hey dey in 80s. theyre bodys are all worn out ,,,,,,,,,,,im in this for the long haul
I do appreciate your comments and understand that many cannot do this. It is too early to tell with the OP - I think he did too much too soon and now needs to heal before attempting to go again.
P.S. I am one of those triathletes from the 80s.
Be well.

disagree totally . u are blessed my friend. but go look around how many blokes are doing that. hardly any. the op says the pain comes after 25 minutes. i run 23 minutes and i only run on sand beaches. although a good treadmill is decent too. Never run on concrete u are asking for injury. lucky you mr Spokane u are in minority that can get away with it.
There are thousands and thousands of us out there who have made running and endurance sports a key and important part of our lives. 23 minutes on a flat beach vs five or ten miles over rolling hills sounds like drudgery and pure exercise vs enjoying moving and getting fit and strong with fitness as a side benefit.

buy nike air shoes if they work for you . second. find a beach that is flat. run on that. third never run more than 30 min. at a time. preferably 23 min. u can still get your heart rate up in tht time period. running for an hour is too much. finaly never ever run on concrete ever. focus on scooting. like a cross country skier. swing arms hard. u want to slide and scoot ........not pound downwards...........how about swimming?
If one slowly builds up to it one can run for hours at a time and on any surface, and if hills are involved, that is even better. I have been running for over forty years and am currently running right at 27 miles per week over four days each week, with the other days involving long bike rides. Like most other things in life there are no absolutes.

Three possibilities come to mind.
Are you wearing good running shoes, made specifically for running?
https://www.runningshoesguru.com/content/best-running-shoes/
You may may be experiencing an overuse injury. The rule of thumb is never to increase either mileage or distance by more than ten percent from one week to the next. And in that you are new to running I would suggest caution and perhaps less than that.
You may also be pushing too hard and/or too fast too soon. Longer slower stuff on a number of the days, faster, more intense but much shorter intervals on other days, and rest and stretching in between.
If your pain goes away when you run, you are probably okay to continue. If it continues to hurt or get worse, stop and heal.

So far in 2018, there has been 18 mass shootings at US schools, how many mass shootings have there been at French schools over the same period?
How many mass shootings have there been, at any location, in France for 2018?
Not true.

OP needs to ignore the usual sexpats who replied to him saying 40k is not enough and take advice from established, refined Farang who like myself leech off his wife insurance and house.
Yes, 40k is quite enough to live on if you don't have housing expenses. I don't know how the government insurance works, but I am using my wife's "decent" private insurance and I gotta tell you it's lacking in so many ways.
You don't really need to drink or smoke in Thailand. The country is filthy enough, so why would you want to poison your body with this crap? That's money saved right there. The most money I spend in here is Western food (because Thai food is garbage), but even Western food sucks in comparison to back home. No choice.
I get around 70,000 baht a month from "back home" and I am able to save over half that every month.
However, always have an escape plan and never sell your house. When I came here 4 years ago I was making 100k due to better exchange rate and somewhat higher income. I don't plan on retiring here.
Good luck.
Thai food is garbage? That seems like a bit of an odd perspective for one who lives in Thailand. You must be a lot of fun when you travel or go out to eat.

UbonJoe, isn’t he asking how to obtain the second year from a non imm o-a multi entry visa, as opposed to switching over to an extension of stay based on retirement?
Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
Never mind, I misread things. Please accept my apologies.

A visa is never extended.
The last one year entry from a OA visa can be extended for a year based upon retirement at a immigration office during the last 30 days of it.

Whichever level of insurance you choose, no matter what others say, when/if you have an accident, you will be basically standing alone. I purchase class one insurance each year, and while relatives like to tell me that I am spending too much money, I do it because I want that coverage. I also believe in insurance coverage on a motorcycle as well. Driving in a country with the most dangerous roads in the world means that I want the insurance. I also have a dash cam, which can save you a small amount on the insurance - usually almost enough to pay for the dash cam.

Immigration will accept an affidavit that is up to 6 months old on the date your apply for the extension.
I don’t think that this is correct. I believe that you must make a border run prior to the enter before date on your non imm o-a multi entry visa, and that will get you a twelve month extension from that date. From that point forward, if you decide to leave the country you must purchase a re-entry permit.
I may be wrong but do not believe there is a method to extend your non imm o-a visa via your local immigration office.
I trust others will step in and correct me if I am wrong.

Your info is incomplete/incorrect.
Also, concerning Jim Fixx - from Wikipedia - His autopsy revealed that atherosclerosis had blocked one coronary artery 95%, a second 85%, and a third 70%.
He had, on several occasions, refused a checkup, which could have found the problems.
