Thailand wants to be a hub for everything...very ambitious..well Phuket is another hub...Foreign criminal hub...matter of fact 90% are foreigners..name it mostly from the west..partly Asians....compared last 20 years ago....Phuket is free of crimes...so don't put it on the locals...Patong Beach was one of the most pretty beaches but now it all turn black and the island crime rate is higher then Bangkok city...

Finally someone had spoken of this issue...you are damp right about Farang knows everything..that's why i ignore them most occasion wherever go especially in Bangkok or the Farang nest is..worst still if there is a Thai lady with them and this bloody Thai lady will make thing worst by adding pepper and salt which is why most Farang behaves that way...they think by staying here long enough to know everything but actually they don't have the actual facts of Thailand..when they assumed something and they think are damp right and they will go on bullshiting to their new friends...

100% agreed..and i'm with you all the way on this topic..those who had stayed in this city for more then 2 years and myself been here for 5 years now..only for people who loves street food and i think street food elsewhere do have some sort of quality even though it is called "Street Food" would have understood what we're talking about when we compare with Singapore..leave those alone that just being naive as everybody knows especially those had stayed here for certain of time and eat out a lot most of times and you knew the experience of eating street food..In street of Bangkok..it depends also where you eat..most part of the city does the street hawkers depends a lot on MSG,Sugar,Nam Pla..that's it..

Just yesterday i was tempted to try this Kuay Teaw noodle(as the locals called it) stall which just happen to open in the noon and i was the first customer there..normally i will ask for more soup'Nam yek yek'..the ingredients looks good with the fish balls,some meats etc..turns out my soup was extremely sweet with lots of sugar in it and i have to modify the taste to add more Nam Pla in it..this is the first time but it happens most time...and in this big population city you can see most hawkers do not care about hygiene and depends so much on MSG...

It is very annoying when travel media like CNN Go and recent Bloomberg giving a misleading reports about the street foods in Bangkok...It's all dirty news..

So much to talk about the street food here..and yes Singapore,Japan,Korea,Hong Kong..this cities are not perfect too but they are far from Bangkok in terms of quality and hygiene should be the example of how the street food are regulated and the public are happy about it..anyway some part of this city you can still find some hawkers are clean and well organized but if you want to have street food ..it's better to have it in a food court in any malls in Bangkok..they are clean and safe to eat but still they still depends on stuff like MSG and lots of sugar...and it's nothing to do with being poor or what so ever...the street food here doesn't seem to cost that cheap for the locals unless if you're an expat or being a foreigner or tourist..it's the same with in Singapore or Hong Kong where the street food is according to the local living cost standard..

It is sad to see sometimes the Som Tum stalls on the streets are blend with the black smokes from the buses and all sorts of pollution coming from the streets..

By the way in Singapore or any Chinese noodles 'Keow Teaw' almost the same type of noodle soup and the soup is based on chicken or pork broth not from MSG,Sugar and some rubbish...

Phuket is not the only place where the Mafias are...should crack down all the bars and restaurants owners in Sukhumvit areas..i won't mentioned where but they are all over in almost every part of Sukhumvit and they are protected...why only target Phuket and Pattaya..this Mafias are well connected with their counterparts in Bangkok and locals being their lackey...

Easily influenced about anything if they can get popularity due to low class education especially in English.When you don't know how to read and communicate in English so their mind is corrupted with anything that can suit them.Thailand is one bad example of American allies.The Americans never educate them to respect about past history.

The only answer to make a good reliable,legitimate and clean government is to clean up the whole system which means overhaul..First to set up an effective anti-corruption body(DSI is just another corrupted agency) and 100% independent and supervision under PM and only reports to PM,pick the most trusted reliable person to run the agency and 100% clean from politics.No interference from any government bodies or politicians.

They have to draw a special law to protect this agency.When this agency is effective then the world will recognize and respect Thailand as the country is moving forward and the watch-dog index will include this country together with Hong Kong and Singapore who has the most effective and reliable anti-corruption agency in the world not even the US which is an allies with Thailand,probably they learn from each other with FBI as their long time partner but both as much as corrupted.182 years of relationship with US but nothing they did to change this troubled nation,the fighting culture still goes on daily basis.

This country could have obtained the developed status decades ago if they had managed to control the level of corruption maybe down to at least 5% if not 0%.

I believe in 50 years from now Thailand will be the same as they are today.The problem with this country is it's people,the fighting culture,the attitude problem and self-conscious language which is only Thai which they proud about.No matter how you would argue,end of the day the world is in English not Thai,put aside the Japanese and the Koreans,they are proud about themselves is due to their strict rules of being Discipline,what they have that Thai's don't.It took them 30-40 years of hard work to archive what they have today same goes with Singapore since independence 40 over years ago.

I thought Chiang Mai living cost should be lower then Bangkok.Anyway try this,rent a place maybe about 7-8,000 baht per month,it's possible.Buy stock at Tesco budget at 700-800 baht per week= limit at 3,000 baht per month.Transportation for 4 person by bus- 2,000 per month.Total about 13 ,000 per month.Maybe you want to eat something special KFC, McDonald,Italian etc then you adjust minus. I should say you could do something like 14-15,000 max per month.Do you drink?,then drink at home..You need a hard discipline to work this method but pity your kids,they might not have a good childhood like other kids....what about their education.?

Phuket is close to 90% percent foreign own properties and businesses as reported in local paper in 2011 so by now should be 95%,how could this happen if not of the big C(corruption) rampantly taking bribes in the island for the last 10 - 15 years.So due to that Phuket is highly developed in terms of real estate and tourism.Where does all this monies go to? Rubbish....all nonsense,the reason why they keep pouring your beer is because they want you to drink faster and you could keep ordering and when you're drunk then you'll give bigger tips then 20 baht or chances are you'll get cheated on your bill,this happens mostly at Thai bars and also tricky ice bucket refills,if you're not aware they can charge you 50 baht per bucket,this is where they make money most. New tourist would love to mobile bars along Sukhumvit area.It's common to reap new comers.. And about the tips,yes it's nothing wrong by tipping 20 baht if they are generously nice to you and of course it's also the service is good but don't be naive if the service is otherwise especially with rude mannered staff,you still want tip..oh come on..
