1. One would think that adding cars would be the logical solution.

First look at the design of those trains. The BTS Sukhumvit line has 3 short S curves and 4 long angle curves.

Adding more cars is not the answer. If they did the results will be bent wheels, broken axials and warped track then no train until repairs.

The Ital Thai strikes again. The Sky train designed by Japan in Manila is a good example of how to build one based on the idea to Stack-em and Pack-em they are over crowded too. But during Christmas they add 4 cars to each train because they can and it cost less than running extra trains which at times they do.

  2. Here is a free tip for Thailand. In Las Vegas , Nevada, the city " leaders" decided they did not want the reputation for the city to be sin and gambling. They then tried to redo all publicity to push for family tourism. Revenues fell WAY off, they came to their senses, and the new promotion became" what goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas". Thailand can certainly do whatever it wants, but if it kills off the sex trade just be sure to have regular jobs for all the girls from Issan...... This kind of government social engineering is made all the more funny by the fact that 80 to 90 percent of the sex trade is for the benefit of and used by Thai men. But I suppose that segment will not be going away. :whistling:

On a side note, if they really do want family tourism, the government is going to have to do something about the endless scams. Those do not go well with families. Kids watching their dad get beaten up by jet ski thugs could have a detrimental effect on future families visiting......

It is called Prozac ask your doctor soon B)

    That's not entirely correct.

First, while family tourism never took off in Vegas, gambling tourism never declined. Profitability from gaming actually increased throughout the 90s, hence all of the building that occurred during that period.

Second, prostitution is NOT legal in Las Vegas, and the laws are enforced rather strictly. Prostitution IS legal just outside Reno, yet comparatively few tourists go there.

Third, Las Vegas is a gambling town and Bangkok, Phuket, etc. are not. While we all know Thailand has a few casinos, few tourists know about them, let alone venture inside. It's hard to make a gaming town into a family destination.

Fourth, good point about the scams. They need to hide some undercover farang officers to act as tourists and run a few stings.

  3. "there are no laws against cheating people through phone calls like they did,” Maj Nackaphan said." :ermm:

Two years ago a Russian cheated some Malays through phone calls, they then solicited another for the group a Thai. The fraud discovered and the police then arrested and charged the Russian with fraud.

So it sounds like you can cheat anyone through the phone and walk free unless it is a Thai? :o

It is either that or Maj Nackaphan has no idea what he is talking about

But I am reminded that prosecution begins at Tea Time not law books :jap:

  4. Most of the post here are really off target, read the headline and posted a comment duh

"Each horn was taken to a taxidermist, who mounted it on a shield to look like a hunting trophy." "The trophy is just a cover for getting the horn out of South Africa and into Asia."

Anyway the problem is the silly idea that the Rhino horn is medicine, you know what it is made of? Hair :o

Go to Yaowarat road (ถนนเยาวราช), you will find at least 10 shops that sell Rhino horn. Cant blame them they make a bundle off of hardened hair.

I blame the idiots that buy it.

    :jap:

  5. The Deal

You build a company to provide cell services get satellite access and then after 1/3 of your profits go to TAT before taxes. If successful we stab you in the back and make you an illegal company no matter what BOI 500 million guarantee you have which you will forfeit.

Now 6 Billion Baht later they get this? :o

  6. "He may have had a problem with another rental outfit and got confused," said the operator.

Got confused eh ? how come you DID have his passport ?????.....

"Arguments between motorbike rental operators and their clients are a common source of problems in the Phuket tourism industry."

Yeah because they keep trying to scam the tourists !!!

RIP the Russian guy, not saying he was blameless in all this but its still a terrible wasts of a life.

 "the Russian, who was in possession of the passport when taken into custody by Patong Police."

  7. I see allot of questions 'why'

    :jap:

    Some answers:

    1. Near Lottery Bureau of Thailand "That is the gathering place for the rural poor to pickup a new set of tickets to sell."

    2. On Khao Sarn road "There are a huge number of lotto sellers that live with sons or daughters that work in the entertainment and restaurants on Khao Sarn road."

    3. Why the family was at Kao San Road at that time? "Tickets are issued at 1pm normaly 2 days after the drawing good gathering right after lunch"

    4. why someone would know they were to be there "Thai Rath news paper has all the venues for various parties and candidates"

    5. And the number 1 Why 'Yellow shirts stepping up thier campain?'

The Why "Would you care to elaborate before I or someone else points out why this is a completely illogical and ridiculous statement? :ermm:

Well fist off it is not a illogical or ridiculous statement it is a Question note the "?" even if their campaign is misspelled it is a question that needs to be asked. Remember Suea Dang got shot in the head talking to reporters and before the autopsy the news reported 1 hour later a .308 Winchester sniper rifle was used. <_<

Make model and calaber in 60 minutes :o

  8. The translations to help folks out.

"Rather, it was the result of a lengthy power cut at a nearby sewage treatment substation that left operators no choice but to release the untreated water into the sea."

Looking into the parking lot reserved for management. We see 11 Desiel powered SUVs Of course if you run out of Diesel those generators wont work, since it is budgeted you cant get more causing a lengthy power cut. :whistling:

"Karon Municipality is currently seeking a budget to buy a back-up generator to prevent a recurrence, he said."

Seems someone needs a new SUV Desiel powered of course.

"the result has always come back within standards,"

Standards of a Bangkok Klong,

"Patong Deputy Mayor Chairat Sukkaban, who at the previous meeting gave a spirited defense of the pricing structure used by tuk-tuks in Patong"

Another words keep your hands out of my tea money. :o

"As for the situation at Nong Harn Lake (Karon Park), Pimook Sonmee from Southern Thai Consulting said the growth of seaweed in the canal might have been confused with pollution."

Toilet paper and plastic bottles plastic bags plastic lawn chairs are not seaweed but covered in it. :ermm:

German honorary consul Dirk Naumann said the German media should be invited here to see the situation for themselves and report the truth. :cheesy:

  9. Preah Vihear was in Thailand 800 years ago, and it stayed that way until the French started monkeying around with the maps.

    Case Point: "Battambang Province

Team two received orders to conduct the survey in villages neighbouring the Thai-Cambodian border located in Phnom Preak district in November 2001. After they had completed the survey, their data was sent to Phnom Penh to be entered in the database. As part of the data entry process the location of all points with coordinates is plotted on maps and checked for accuracy. While checking the village point of one of the villages in Phnom Preak District it was noticed that according to the map it was on the wrong side of the Thai border. As a result of this, the Database Unit returned the survey data back to Team Two for checking. The team leader returned to this district to verify the error, but after the team leader had checked the map he realised that the village point was correct, but the map was hopelessly incorrect with no connection to reality."

These maps were made and published in the 1960s.

  10. Just let me clue you in Mr.Dan Waites. :annoyed:

This sort of stereo typing is ugly demeaning insulting and completely false.

Yes there are a handful like this but not as many as you would want us to believe in your stupid story. :redcard2:

Most of my friends are ex-military, or retired form a successful career in the petroleum business. And worked here for contractors servicing Union Oil Thailand.

We stayed for various reasons. For one our retirement pay would not go very far in our home countries. Second some of us are sic of the politics, over regulation and ignorant liberalism that allow black men to call a white man honky, a Muslim to call us filthy infidels, a mexican to call us white trash. But let one of us call one a negro, a terrorist or a wetback and we go to JAIL and get fined for discrimination. They can burn our flags but we cant burn theirs, they can burn a bible but we can not burn a koran. Just like the spell check in Microsoft bible can be in lower case but koran must be upper case. Stupid liberal crap

Regulation yea the Department of Energy demands and will fine and jail you if you do not install a toilet that saves water and the dang thing does NOT WORK. And this is in more than one country. You must have a % of mexican negro or others in your business if you employ more that 25 people. And if you run a business of call center help, answering service or the like YOU MUST HAVE SPANISH, or they shutdown your business and fine you.

    Taxes nuff said on that

Teachers the ones that are good stay at it. The rest are known as backpacker teachers. They came here wanted to stay longer were not qualified but most teach or act like teachers in government schools, and when the student graduates he or she could NEVER pass any entrance exam to any university.

Bar owners, there are a larger percent that are retirees, entrapenuars and just plainly bored of the country life. Only two examples George Pipus, 40 years in the bar business, retired CIA operative now deceased. Bob, retired from IBM, owns upscale bar on soi 31, owns a five star bar & private club on Ekamai.

Thaivisa.com 80% did not take the survey. Some of us have never been to Patpong, Soi Cowboy or Nana. Some have not been there in 5,10 or 15 years. Some only go on payday to unwind. Some dont even drink.

Thaksin, I too do not want him to return, because if he does the army loses face and will certainly kill him as they did the general known as Suea Dang. I support the red shirt movement as they are the poor rural people of Thailand, proud, and have the dignified job of growing the food YOU ate for lunch. Defiant because of the class segregation they are tired of.

You gave one example Bob Sexer I give the second Dan Waites the sexpat writer so he can have a long term visa and money to support his honey's in Hua Hin beach bars.

I think what you did in your slimy story is describe your own pitiful existence

    :clap2:

  11. When the Swiss government canceled his pension 3 months ago, he became desperate for funds to cover overhead costs of his wife's restaurant there.

I thought the point of having a restaurant was making money?

I see you have never had a business with a Thai Wife or you have one that is SUPER RARE :o

  12. How <deleted> hard is it to replace a server?

I swear, the Thais must have contracted out their IT to my employer. My company has had a massive problem for the past 3 months with its servers. Maybe they need to enforce a rule of no halo or warcraft games during work hours.

I'm sure they're not playing games on them. Can't think of any that are compatable with Windows 3.11.

The IBM AS400 will run Win 3.11.08 and it happens they are the old ones from the Bangkok Bank, and the Amsing(sp?)bank guess who bought them? They were installed with Windows For Workgroups for the workstations which has, poker, chess, and several Windows network games :)

The IBM System/38 was introduced in November 1980 as a minicomputer for general business and departmental use. It was replaced by the AS/400 midrange computer in 1988 which was rebranded as the eServer iSeries in 2000

  13. I am going to weigh in on this topic at a risk.

I know many of you were inconvenienced when the long Red Shirt protest extended itself into mayhem. I will tell you that the mayhem was orchestrated from within the ruling party, by how much I dont know but I do know that they Killed the Thai General that was nick named after the Red Shirt movement, Suea Dang, he was murdered plain and simple.

So the two items to consider.

    1. Taksin ordered that all capitol purchases by the military would include as payment a 50% barter for agriculture products, and parliament passed the measure. This did not take 50% of the tea money away from the military this dissolved it entirely. This made the platform for a coup.

    2. Taksin left Thailand to address the UN general assembly on two fronts, one was the Prah Verah temple and the other was the true border. He is well known to be good friends with Hun Sin there was to be a consensuses of 50-50 share of tourist traffic a new road linking the 3/4 disputed temples, a hotel and a casino. He was actually going to pull the thorn out of Thailand's side that has been much discomfort since 1965. This was then his coup to prevent him from stopping the flow of drugs, money, and people trafficking from Cambodia. I think it would have worked :jap:

So flame away, I am sure you will hard facts and truth always gets a rise out of social networking. :violin:

  14. Some comments seem to me to be a bit nonchalant or a little ho-hum :ermm:

I would like to say that by the weather map provided the isobars are quite close together showing a potential violent storm a clash of warm wet air with high clouds with cool wet air.

I grew up in the country 50 miles to the closest town and learned early to read the weather with out a TV :o

    1. Halo around the sun rain within 24 hours

2, Red ant mounds being built in a cone shape 3 or 4 inches higher than normal rain in 12 hours or less

    3. Many Ant colonies moving away from streams of rivers rain in 8 hours or less.

    4. If you keep animals in a shelter look at the rafters or ceilings if there are an unusual clusters of common house flies rain in 4hours or less.

    5. If you have cows nearby they will all be facing the same direction, they turn their backs to approaching rain storms. Rain imminent with in the hour.

Falash flood ? If you live in the country side you will smell it, it has a scent of fresh dirt,

Now back to the map look again the whole line is noted to be stalled or slow moving a high potential for flooding. :(

:P Small logs, stream changing color too dang late to run look for higher ground.

Last word do not be complacent about rain storms this year be over cautious in the past 4 months there have been major floods in Indonesia, Philippines, Australia and China. This La Nina spring weather has been unusually violent. 27 Major tornadoes in America and a twin water spout in Hawaii today. :jap:
