  2. groceries can be VERY expensive in Thailand if you want something that is not part of the basic needs of Thai people. And I am not talking about imported goods, I am talking about products made in Thailand. one example, a 225 gr block of (local) butter costs double of what I would pay in my home country. And yes, sorry, while I do eat Thai food too, butter is still part of MY daily basic needs. A tiny cup of (locally made !) cottage cheese costs 4 times as much as in my home country. On the other hand, I don't get a 1$/ lunch in my home country when eating out....

    lives are cheaper here.

smiling is getting more expensive here.

    msg is more affordable here

sugar in food is more accessible here

attentive judiciary is more expensive here

  3. How do I qualify to teach this Thainess course? (Is "Thainess" a word?)

    Be able to:

    1. procure tea-money from students to assist with grade 'adjustment'

    2. administer corporal punishment, and witness it without flinching

    3. retrain to 'teacher-focused' education

    4. talk about your breakfast for 2 hours each day

    5. scream 'falang-falang' without interruption

    6. write baht as bath

    7. never invent, initiate or act in a creative capacity

    8. upwardly manage without fear or favor

    9. recognize that it's a complete waste of time

  4. Gamini is correct. I have never seen Hua Hin like this. For the last 6-8 weeks I'd say. Getting a seat on a sawngthaew in the morning to language school is impossible, sometimes that full I have to wait for the next baht bus, that never happened before. The beach is packed with tourists, mostly Russians. As a result HH is gradually getting more expensive, not to Phuket levels though.

yes chap, you are right !

Russions told me that their preferred restaurants ( 7-11 )

have in all Thailand the same prices !! 55555

therefore baht bus waiting in front of this restaurants !!

    fully packed !!

oh dear - we were there 2 months ago....

SO many obese mature farangs in g-strings or similar. We had to take photos, and hard to control our laughter.

Beached whales and walruses every few feet on HH beach. Must be costing their national govt's a fortune in health-care.

  5. Totalitarian thought control at its worst. Universities in the West will not be happy until they someday resemble Khmer Rouge Re-education Camps.

there's much, much more to this story than reported. this guy was a total a..........e. think closer to the n word mentality for this idiot who was responsible for the enaction of a new federal education system. he's a total idiot and glad he's gone.

  6. Common sight when in public buses and train some people just ignore others by blocking access of door by just playing with phone, that is not Thai culture where people which is caring with handphone they contain themselves in cyber world which ignore other existance.

RIP. Thais are in the lowest ranks of multi-tasking. Even lower on task-switching.

Sadly, though fortunately, she strengthened the gene pool.

  7. There actually a lot more quality tourist coming to Thailand, I was checking with several hotels to book venues with conference or meeting facilities, to my surprise most of these hotels already have booking until June 2015 with incentives, corporate meeting groups from various countries and they already have 80% occupancy from group bookings. I was calling on behalf of a Singapore based IT company with request for 400 - 500 pax group for several tentative dates but unable to get any rooms until June 2015.

So these are the quality corporate group to Thailand for business meetings staying up to 5 days for each group which most of you guys who make comments about tourist may or may not aware of these quality tourist. So Thailand don't need those bad tourist who give a lot of problems. So quality tourist is coming more and more NOT declining.

How many hotels/venues did you contact?

Did you contact by phone or in person or face-to-face?

I've done this too. Depending on reception who pretends to understand but can't. Plus the lazy reception or events who provide this answer because they think they are overworked. Shame.

I suspects your stats are skewed.

How many hotels/venues did you contact?

  8. What about the British Embassy for once doing the decent thing??

Get the poor guys body home and worry about the monetary aspects later!!

I'm British and I don't expect my embassy to give a flying fig about my corpse once I've carked it. What does it matter where a body is finally laid to rest? I'd rather my family (or indeed my country) kept the money (and its expensive to fly the deceased home - it's not the same as finding them an aisle seat - there are health regulations to be met, coffins to be found to hold the body, etc.) rather than moved my no-longer-in-the-remotest-bit-concerned flesh around the world.

You're entitled to your position on death and remains. So are his parents and those close to him. Respect the right to difference and the spiritual endings of others.

  9. In fairness, the best bit of marketing done by TAT for years.

    Cheesy, but a good effort.

Did people really believe 100 Thais would take to a beach with candles for free to find someone's bag?

I agree, I actually think this is a good bit of marketing and refreshing change from the usual rubbish TAT puts out.

I don't think that TAT were trying to pull the wool over anyones eyes with this. I don't think they ever claimed it to be anything other than what it is and I don't think they were trying to pass it off as being 'real', so to speak.

If people watching it believed this video to be anything other than scripted, then more fool them!

In fact, it could be argued that it's been very successful as it's gained huge attention, the video has been watched more than 800,000 times on YouTube and had people talking about it on forums and throughout social media.

Sure it's cheesey but it's better than the 'Thainess' campaign and the other quickly forgotten marketing spiel they've put out in recent years.
