  1. 20k Baht for residency is a ridiculous amount, it's really out of proportion. To get a residency in a country like Holland you will be paying maybe a couple of hundred of euros (depending on you situation) and you will be getting A LOT for it - social security, permission to work for a very decent salary, access to high quality education etc.

So what where you getting here in Thailand, again? wink.png

Oh, and for members of European Union the fee is 53 Euros....

A little more than a couple of hundred Euro's

Well, you are right, the prices went up a little, so now it's between 350 and 1200 Euros (non EU residents). Still very low compared to Thailand's 5k euros with no real benefits. Only benefit is that you don't have to worry about the visa.

    So my argument stands smile.png.

  3. To the OP:

You know, I am really curious how they would react and what they would say if you would ask them about their behavior. Whether it you speaking Thai or lighting up the bbq (btw I had to laugh hard when I read that line smile.png). So maybe if you talk about it, it will turn out that there is some explanation and that they are actually not being rude. And if you explain them that you don't appreciate this behavior, I'm pretty sure that they will not do it again .

So would you give this a try?

If you do, please let us know how it went.

  4. To the OP:

    Hi there,

Just a thought, but if it bothers you so much, why don't you ask these persons why they call you a farang and how you feel about it. If I was able to speak Thai I would definitely do this, in stead of complying about it on TV smile.png

    All the best smile.png

  5. Indeed, due to all media (tv, internet, tabloids, etc) Asian countries are slowly turning into the Western countries. Many people "escaped" from the west to Thailand because of this "Western mentality"...but now this "virus" starts to affect people here also..Sadly...

  6. People used to be happy with simple life, but now they want a nice tv, car, house so they don't feel as happy and relaxed as they used to. Main reasons are: aggresive capitalism & marketing, globalization, internet and social media.

Also before programs like "idol" people where happy the way they were, but now everyone wants to be star and if he/she is not then they don't feel as happy and as warm as it once used to be.

  7. This is happening everywhere in the world now, people smile less than they used to. This is because people become more self centered and more egoistic, they are focusing on being pretty and having the newest smartphone, etc. It's sad that this is also touching Thailand and other countries in the region.

PS. Why are you guys posting spam if you have nothing to add to this topic? Save your energy ;)

  8. Hello everyone :)
I've been following this forum for a month now and this is my first post.

I am planning to be a teacher in Chiang Mai for a year, but after reading this thread I am having some second thoughts...

Guys, please tell me this ridiculous burning and smog is happening only in March and the rest of the year is all nice and fresh? If it's not...

And I am guessing that the farmers are burning the forests so they can grow crop or are there any other reasons?

Kop khun for the info! :)
