  1. There is so many gyms in Chiang Mai, I have noticed 3 new gyms opened just in my area last months !
Tell me your workout type and where you live and I will try to recommend something.

From my experience, the best gym is always the one closest to you.
Just off the hat - I can recommend Speed gym (new gym on Canal Road near Star Hill condo), Go Gym, Fitness Thailand... really depends what type of workout you do - weight lifting ? mostly cardio ? maybe cross fit ? need A/C ?

  2. Not many gyms with steam and sauna in that area.

Touch fitness at Maya has it but the membership is way overpriced if you compare with other gyms.

If you are serious lifter, you can choose Go Gym on the Superhighway. The downside is no airconditioning which will be just fine in the cold season coming, but a real hassle in the hot season.

Another alternative is Fitness Thailand. Quite alright gym, good size, A/C, good selection of equipment. Sometimes they have maintenance delays, but you will always find alternative machine for the muscle group.

You can also choose Harris Fitness, which is located in the Lotus Hotel not far from the Nimmanhemin. Gym is rather small in size, but equipment is alright (dumbbells up to 120 pounds) and gym is never too busy. Also they have great swimming pool included with a year membership.

There is many gyms in Chiang Mai. I recommended only near your area which is very important I guess.

I would advise you to go check them out at the time when you most likely will be working out. I think they all will let you have 1 free workout.

  3. Hi All,

I will be very appreciated if some of you will help me to answer following questions.

It is coming to the point, when I will have 3 years unbroken non immigrant visa soon, and I will want to apply for permanent residency.

I am working at international school in Chang Mai, my salary is 60k per month. My nationality is Polish. I have some investments in Chiang Mai already - 6 condominiums, with chanote title on my name (freehold). I can speak Thai in about 30%.

    My questions are :

    - am I eligible to apply for permanent residency ?

    - under what category should I apply ?

    - do I need to speak fluent thai to be able to apply ? read thai also ?

    - what time of the year should I apply ?

    - should I use any visa agency ?

    - what are aprox. costs of applying ?

Thank you very much for your help. On internet I can find only very general information.

  4. OK my fault.

'Nuff said. Your fault. Go to Immigration and tell the truth. Follow the rules. Pay what you owe and get on with it. How difficult is it??? Just do what you already know is the right thing. Unbelievable and unacceptable that the OP violated the rules (by accident, but no matter) and so many TV members are trying to help him further violate the rules! UNREAL 1zgarz5.gif

Be real Mr. Right. You are violating some rules every day also.

It is not as simple as you think. If that was that simple, I would not have any problem with it.

If you really need to know, Chiang Mai immigration is a nightmare. You need to line up about 6am to be serviced on that day. If you lucky enough, you will be serviced, but you need to spend there all day long.

Unfortunately, I am not retired yet. I work Monday to Friday so if I want to go there, I will have to take day off.

So this is the deal - spending all day from early morning hours in crowdy and hot office, missing a day at work which I will have to make up later on, to pay 2000 baht fine. Great. No thanks ! I will pay that fine on the next chance, for example when going abroad.

I am not a criminal by not doing my 90 days reporting. I missed out something that I have done before about 10 times always on time. I have valid visa for staying in Thailand so please don't make me a criminal.

  5. If you are going to leave the country again soon, I would just tear the old one out, and act shocked that it was gone...you stand a decent chance there, too. Might be a good idea to keep the 5K on you, and It might be better to not have one at all, than to have an expired one.

Thank for the advice. Should I just tear the old 90 days reporting ? Or Arrival/departure card also ?

  6. Like I originally stated, if you have a multiple re-entry permit, take a day trip to Myanmar....VIP GreenBus or a seat by the goat pen, up to you.

I do not have a multiple re-entry permit. And even if I have, what is benefit of doing that ? I will waste all day or more, probably pay 2000 baht on the border anyway, plus a trip costs. Myanmar visa cost also ? Would be easier and cheaper just to go to immigration.

  7. To clarify - this is not my first visa extension. I was in Vietnam for holiday only and came back on re-entry permit. Moved to Thailand in 2012.

I am not asking if I am late or not. I already know that I am late.

I want to know if there is anything that I should be aware of, not having 90 days reporting done, other than 2000 baht fine that I will have to pay some time in the future.

  8. OK my fault. I came back from Vietnam in April, and done my visa extension in June. I thought 90 days reporting will count from visa extension date, but my friend told me this counts from my arrival date to Thailand. So I just checked on internet, and yeah, he is right. I am late, and will have to pay 2000 baht fee.

In this case, I don't feel like to do my 90 days reporting at all. Spending all day in Promenada and paying 2000 baht penalty fee ? No thanks.

I assume that penalty fine will not increase over the time. Doesn't matter I am late 1 month, 5 months or 12 months - it is still gonna to be 2000 baht right ?

I do not plan to go to other country in near future, and also there is a very little chance I will be arrested (4000baht fine).

Should I be aware of anything else ?

  9. In the meantime, we don't need another thread about differential pricing in Thailand.

"we" means you ? do you own this forum ? Why you feel a need to comment then ?

Zeichen, you judge people very easily, which allows me to disrespect you a lot. You assuming things, for example that I can not speak Thai, and my gf doesn't stand up for me. This is unreal. Get a real life.

  10. Perhaps rephrase that to lower status Thais avoid confrontation as they don't believe themselves worthy of fair treatment. There are also many acceptable ways that Thais confront people and situations. "Loosing one's Shit" is the foreigners way to confrontation which I didn't and wouldn't suggest . But if your partner didn't defend you or get things straightened out with the manager, she either believes herself as lower status or doesn't think you deserve fair treatment. If they pulled that crap with her in a group of Thai people, would she have done anything different?

Right, and you are an expert of thai culture and my relationship, as well as you know my girlfriend very well.

    She was buying?

Yes, she was making an order. She was upset also, but what's the point of blaming a waiter.

send your gf in alone to buy the beer & pay, then turn up 5 minutes later.

Yeah we said we will do that next time. But probably we will not go there again. Sad, because live music band was really good.

Take out your cell phone and record a video of the waiter clearly stating it, then go report them. It is actually illegal under the constitution to charge different rates. I am surprised that your partner didn't stand up for you and your rights. I would be more concerned about that.

No I am not concerned of that. Thai people avoid confrontation, however she was surprised and upset of that also.

To my knowledge, I've never been charged a higher "farang" price in a restaurant or bar

Yeah me also. Very surprised. Or I have been overcharged many times, just not aware of that.

  12. I got used to to places like Infinity and Fabrique, where thai people have free entry, but foreigners have to pay entry fee of about 300 baht.

In my understanding usually thai people spend much more money and have table full of food and drinks in this kind of establishments, while foreigners sip their cheapest beer for very long time.

However, I lost my shit when I went to new Nabe last night with my thai gf. Waiter refused to sell her beer promotion (3 bottles for 189baht I think) because she came with foreigner. He said they don't sell beer promotion to foreigners but single bottles for 80 baht.

Nabe is a bar with live music very close to Fabrique. They are selling very nice iced beer. They used to be located in Santitam before.

What are your experiences ? I'm sure places like that are much more than we realize.

  13. I live in Chiang Mai almost 3 years already and I love it. Not willing to move.

However, I miss doing some water sports, especially Kitesurfing or Windsufring.

Kayaking or white water rafting are not in my interest.

Any idea if somewhere in Chiang Mai province some people do kite or windsurfing ?

  14. One big scam in my opinion.

Arrived to Chiang Mai airport last night at 10pm and wanted to use that new service.

Went to Shuttle Bus stop. Schedule is right there, next bus should leave at 10:30 pm. Bus is scheduled every 30 min, with last one at 3:30am. It was 10:20 at that moment.

Bus was waitng. No customers around, just driver. Driver insisted me to pay 300 baht for the ride, and he will go only with me. I said no, I want to go with the scheduled bus, and pay 40 baht for the ride, as it is advertised in the local news.

Driver laughed. Said if bus is not full, he will not go.

Then chinese couple came. Driver told them the same story. They accepted to pay 300 baht. Bus left with them only. So how the hell they can get the bus full if they do like that ?

It was 10:25pm. I was waiting until 10:40pm for possible scheduled bus, but nothing came.

Left with the taxi for 120 baht to Nimman.

So my question is : is it driver scamming ? Or this is normal policy when low number of customers ? I guess this is new service and people at the airport have no idea about this shuttle bus, plus it was late night time (bus still busy airport time).

I didn't have a good feeling about it, especially knowing that taxi is 120 baht.

  15. Maybe they add electric fee from common areas ? Hallway lights, swimming pool, fitness, elevators etc.

What about your monthly condo fee ?

If electricity fee from common areas is already included in monthly condo fee, and they still charge you higher rate, then you have a very greedy landlord.

You mentioned that this is serviced apartment, so I assume you don't have any condo fee or any fee for maintenance. That's why you pay higher electricity rate to cover common areas.
