  1. I am going to assume the OPs report is inaccurate and its nothing to with the wife reporting, its the landlords problem ??

I report my address.. both on arrival and every 90 days.. thats the sum amount of input from me or my wife to not generate any fines ?? Correct ??

Any further fines are the landlords duty and problem ??

Your assumption is wrong. Everything I said in my original post was accurate.

  2. The falangs on my moobaan are all of a panic because it seems that their Thai wife / partner has to present themself to immigration and complete a form confirming that a falang is living at the same address. Additionally, it seems that a Thai wife and / or the owner (or agent of a rented property) have to inform the police if the "registered falang" is going to be away from their property for more than 24 hours. Oh and one of the women on our moobann having "registered" her husband was "fined" 800 baht for "overstay"!! It seems that earlier this week the registration took place at the Promenada Immigration office, but yesterday someone was redirected to the "old" office along from Central Airport Plaza

I've been living here in Chiang Mai for more than 5 years and been married to a Thai woman for 3 of those years and I've never heard of this before. I've always notified Immigration of my changes of address by completing the 90 day (TM47) document. Is this new legislation, or have Immigration suddenly decided to enforce a long-forgotten rule...and if so, why?

  3. "The Escape" is a film; it's fictional and doesn't purport to be a documentary.

Nevertheless, how typical it is that the majority of the Thai Visa Chiang Mai members who feel they have to comment on this film (which is not yet released, that they haven't seen and about which they know little except from the media relations machine), still use it as an opportunity to publcise their inane, negative opinions.

  4. Use the most expensive courier possible. Anything less especially regular post will likely be Lost.

    Completely false misinformation!

Surely, if it's "false misinformation", doesn't that mean it's true information?

    I'm just sayin'...

  5. Yep, good post.

It's one of my pet concerns that many (the majority?) of Thai motorcyclists have no rear light and that the front light is obscured by a basket. I nearly collected one a couple of nights ago as I turned left from my small soi and even though I looked right, I just didn't see the ninja motorcyclist 100 meteres away with no front light (or rear light) and dressed in dark clothes hurtling towards me. Believe me, it was sheer luck that he swerved out of the way, just in time.

While we're on the subject it also pains me to see mum and dad on a motorcycle and a small child either standing on the front or squashed in between. Generally, all with no crash helmets.

These are all offences against Thai traffic regulations (yes, they do exist!) and although I often see police checkpoints with dismounted motocyclists looking glum knowing that they're going to have to pay a "no helmet" "fine", I can't remember a time when I've seen a Thai family (with a child) lined up for the same treatment! . Like Worgeordie, I don't know why the police choose to ignore the situation regarding rear and/or front lights, unless of course there's no "fine" attached for a first offence?

  6. Yeah, Alpine must be nice at 4000+ baht. MaeJo substantially less in cost.

I played at Mae Jo for the first time on Wednesday last week and although it's a very pretty and tricky course this was not an experience I'll be repeating in a hurry. The total cost (as a guest of a member) was 3,000 baht (2,100 green fee + 300 baht caddy fee + an outrageous charge of 600 baht just for for my wife to sit in the golf cart and accompany me. The course was absolutely packed and the pace of play was alarmingly slow with groups in front of us treating every match as though it was the Ryder Cup. Lunch was at best average and expensive at 250baht per person for a buffet.

There are better deals available at Hang Dong; Stardome, North Hill (Koolpuntville) and Green Valley.

  7. OK - 15 reasons why I love living in Thailand (and before you ask; yes I've been here a few years now, yes can speak a little Thai and yes, married to a Thai woman). Any more to add?

    • Standing up in cinemas for the King’s song
    • Respect for the monarchy
    • The beautiful temples
    • The warm weather
    • Friendly locals
    • Beautiful Thai women
    • Delicious food
    • It’s a melting pot of people
    • Spiritual beliefs
    • The night life
    • Street food
    • Ice in my beer
    • Learning to deal with (and enjoy) the chaos
    • Never really understanding the politics of the country
    • Reading what the trolls and crazies say on Thai Visa
  8. Seems like you might have:

    1) A poor connection to the battery (check the HT Leads and terminals yourself)

    2) Poor/broken wiring to the alternator (which again, you can check yourself if you know where the alternator is)

    3) A faulty/broken alternator, which you will need to get tested and then if necessary, replaced at a garage

You could always take your car to a local main dealer (Toyota etc, Honda, Isuzu, Mitsubishi etc), they all have good repair and maintenance centres. Otherwise, ask around and find out where the locals get their repairs done and take someone with you who can translate for you.

    Good luck....

  9. If your letter was dated 21 August for reporting/renewing in September then it's unlikely that CM Immgration would have accepted it as (in my experience), you have to report within 7 days of the date of the original letter from the consulate. As for presenting a photocopy, I'm afraid that's not going to work either, the officers at immigration insist on retaining the stamped and signed original document.

Regretfully, it looks as if you're going to have to pay the 2520 baht for another confirmatory document, but before you do so. make sure that you fully understand the timescales regarding its validity.

  10. I'm glad to see a positive review for this restaurant which is one of those "small soi treasures" of which there are so many.

Both my Thai wife and I have eaten at The Nest and on every occasion the food (Thai and Farang) has been excellent with fresh vegetables and other produce, a hard-working chef and customer-friendly owner who speaks very good English.

The directions are excellent and it's well worth doing a little exploring to find it and yes it's closed on Thursdays. My feelings are that you won't be disappointed!

  11. I was able to watch the first week of Wimbledon Tennis on TrueVision channel 670 (both live and replays) until Saturday. Then on Monday, nothing! No live matches, no replays, no explanation!

Anyone else as annoyed as me, or should I have expected something like this?

  14. Can anyone recommend a VPN Provider for a friend who is returning to Chiang Mai next week and wants to watch British TV?
