  1. Anyone know who sells some good bagels on Samui? I am really craving some good bagels, but I have yet to see any on offer here, or even Bangkok for that matter.

    Thanks.

I dont know if they sell them but what about Angela's Bakery in Maenam??

  2. Open to all options i.e. Hotel, Resort, Villa, House Rental, etc. We are traveling with kids so prefer an area that is quiet and kid friendly, with little or no "bar" scene. Okay if it's not on the ocean. Also need to have some reviews available, like at TripAdvisor.com. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Also open to other areas, Phuket, Hua Hin, Khao Lak, etc. Thanks in advance.

What about Bophut, fishermans Village in Koh Samui.

Very low key, family atmosphere, its on the beach and no girlie bars or rowdy clubs in sight!

You have lots of different hotels to choose from, suitable for every budget.

Smile house is right in the middle of the village with pool and various bungalows to choose from.

Look them up on tripadviser or peace resort is good aswell, but more expensive.

  3. As far as i know they have no specific route they go where they please when they please so it really is pot luck if you get 1. Why dont you just hire a moped the roads are not as bad as they used to be and you can also come and go as you please that way and not have to worry about taxis or hitching a lift....

Thanks for the advice but you'll never see me on a mopet, would rather walk everywhere!!!

Seen too many accidents, friends been killed out there so no thanks!

I might be a good driver, but what about everyone else on the road and the state of the roads in some places.

I would advice all visitors going to Samui NOT to hire scooters, its a deathtrap!!!

  4. Can anyone explain the route for me please!!!

In april we came from Chong mon Beach going back to the Village.

Around 16.00 I think it was, NO songtheaws were going that way so we ended up walking a long time!!!

Then someone told us that they dont go that way between certain hours of the day.

Its the same coming from Chaweng I think, they only go back to Bophut past Tescos and not up the road going past lake View.

Since we are going back in 9 weeks time I'd figure I better know in advance the routes as I HATE having to deal with Taxis!

  5. I am doing a project on the beach at Maenam.

    Looking for partners!

    1. Its 1234 Units

    2. Has its own airport, airfares 1/2 price

    3. 104 Go-Go bars

    4. No LadyBoys

    5. Has 7 Soi Green Mangos

    6. Has NaNa and Soi Cowboy Shipped in from Bangkok

    7. Has a Floating Casino

    8. 12 Helicopter Pads

    9. 2 X PGA Golf Courses, with free private coaching from Tiger Woods

    10. 64 Pools

    11. 22 tennis courts coahing from Nadal

    12. Has a beach some where hard to find because of everything else

I am running out of ideas would appreciate some input!

Hurry David Beckham has already purchased and paid deposit.

Dont be late get the place early, dont be dissapionted! Start at 9 PM

You can find sales agents riding around Chaweng on the back on motorbikes!!!

    hahaha made my morning!!!!! :)

Heres another suggestion...How about an underwater restaurant with a tunnel connecting Koh Phangan.

Then I can walk to the Full moon party and not have the hassle of the boats!

  6. i'm also interested in pilates for my back, but in KPN. no answers on samui yet, what about KPN?

Someone just PM me saying absolute sanctuary is doing pilates. Thanks for that by the way!!!

I checked it out and they have a class on Wednesday.

I have emailed them for more info but up to now thats the only place thats reasonable priced!

  7. Anyone know if and where there might be pilates classes on Samui?

I have seen it advertised once in a spa/retreat hotel but the prices seemed CRAZY!!!!

In the Uk here I can do a class for £4.00 or monthly membership for £31.00 and I can go as many times as I want.

Why does it seem to be that yoga/pilates is aimed at the rich on Samui.

Anyone who can suggest different please do so as I would really like to practise it when i'm there.

  8. Hello,

We are heading down to Samui for a week. Has anyone got any recommendations of things to see and do?

Do you think it is essential to book all accommodation before arriving or is it quiet at this time of year?

We will be looking to stay in budget air-con places.

    Cheers.

PS - whats the weather like today?

I would recommend the canopy adventure! Really exciting. Going through the tree tops on a zip wire!

Your chance to become Tarzan for the day :)

Also i have seen this but never tried it myself.....its a big ball, you go inside it and you get rolled down the hill! Looks imprssive.

Maybe someone on here can describe it better or knows if its any good.

  9. Hi! Not sure if you have got yourself sorted yet, but ....

The condo where I live in Fishermans (up Soi Sundays, opposite Sundays Resort) has a gym on the roof. It is all glass, has stunning views and all the equipment I need. Together with some I don't understand! :) Oh, and air-con too. It is seldom used by the residents and so day passes are for sale, as are monthly for B500 I believe. Only negative is the lack of showers.

PM me if you need any more info. :D

That sounds brilliant and not too far to walk either.

Thanks for that I will send you a pm later on! Cheers

  10. why not rent one of the many available house with bedroom and furnitures for 7000/month?

there are a lot of empty houses for rent so be prepared to negotiate hard and you might get a really nice deal. look at Ko Phangan too. not cheaper but a hel_l of a lot nicer than Samui

unless you have to shopping or to immigrations.

I hope you realise its rainy season in Samui then!!! And it doesnt half come down!

Dont know much about weather in Pattaya but I would keep that in mind.

I agree with above comments and hire a house somewhere, much cheaper!

  11. Hi there,

my friend got quoted £10 000 for 10 veneers here in the uk.

I thought that was absolutely ridiculous and she probably could get herself a holiday to thailand for that and get her teeth seen to!

So does anyone know how much it would cost to get her teeth done. ( 10 top row ones)

    Cheers

  12. hope i did not come across as a smart ase to your reply Roo just i used to use it, it is a good gym but if OP wants a/c thats not the one all though i can reccommend it clean and has lots of fans.

Hahaha if OP stands for old person I'm only 36 I'll have you know! :D But I wont take offence Nalak!

If it stands for something else then I'm sorry for the reply!

I just like AC as I want to do a lot of cardio work and I'm not used to train in the Samui heat!!

But fans will probably do aswell!

That was a good way to get your age :D . OP= original poster :D .

:) yeah well fell for that one then eh!

    have good weekend!

  14. There is one Isabel, if you are coming out of fisherman's village lights, turn left towards Lamai, a couple of hundred meters

on your right, past the entrance to the old soi monkey road.

Cheers for that, will try that one out!

I did email the Anantara but no reply as of yet and I do think it will more than likely be a NO :)

  15. Any one know of a good gym A/C in the Bophut area we can use when we get there?

I would love to use the ones in any of the hotels close to the fishermans village but I assume they are only for guests???

    Cheers

some hotels let you in for a fee go and ask they have had a bad year and its low season they maybe prepared to let you have a memebrship. Centra hotel is in Chaweng and have 2 A/C gyms and you can join them. otherwise 99 gym is supposed to be ok and there is gym on the way into chaweng about 1 mile up from the traffic lights on the left both are fans only the one on the left on main road is better. e mail a few of the big hotels in Bohput before you go. smile house in bohput let you use there pools for a small fee but no gym

Ok will do, thanks a lot!

  16. The outcome. Went to Thai Inter by Tesco (what a dirty filthy hospital, those metal grills at the end of the beds in Emergency are covered in more crap than a BBQ that hasnt been cleaned for years) and told them had small cat bite, nurse asked about tetinius (spelling no good btw) but didnt mention rabies. Doctor came and suggest rabies vacinne ($$$), total cost 1505 baht, all done within 20 minutes, have to go for 4 more injections, they cost about 900 baht each, so near 5,000 baht all in (if I follow the course). Im sure the nurses were like "what a paranoid falang w*****"

Went to see some thai friends in Chaweng later and they were pissing themselves laughing at the thought of paying that amount for a small cat bite (and show me some of their recent ones), and talked to few people (falang) and they said no reported rabies on the island for years so not to worry, especially with it being a cat and not a dog. Anyway, what's done is done, thanks for the advice, but I cant help feeling that I've let myself speculate far beyond any reasonable probability.

In a nutshell though for those that have had a concerning bite and come across this post via google, on Samui you're looking at about 5,000 baht all in (i.e. 1st visit plus 4 more for top-ups injections), walk in explain in broken english, in and out in 20 minutues and a little reminder card with VERORAB on it, Im sure most hospitals are pretty much same same.

A friend of mine has offered to lend to me her cat box, so I figure tomorrow I'll talk it the vet and get it checked anyway since it doesnt seem to want to leave my porch, if it the unlikely outcome then I'll guess I'll pay to have it put down, if not then I figure pay for it be cleaned of flees and neutred and then at least I hope it wont be crying all day.

OMG dont get it put down, I'm sure there must be other ways round it!!!!

  17. I was thinking of taking air asia to Bangkok from Surathani.

As we are on holiday we have plenty of time and really just want to safe some money.

From surat to BKK then onto Chiang mai will save me at least 25oo Bath( I think thats what it was anyway)

If we take the ferry to surathani, how long does it take then to go to the airport????

And how do we get there....is it cheaper to book a transfer from Samui??

  18. is your budget of 50k for the accomodation , or for your entire living expenses,?

Thats for accomodation only per month. We'd like something nice and contemporate as we then dont have to feel the need to go out all the time. For us it would feel like we were living there and not just holidaying!

  19. Hi there,

I'm in Samui at the moment and have seen a coffeetable for 5000 THB. If using the postoffice for means of shipping, as the table is only 28 kg, it would cost me in total with purchase and shipping about 11200THB.

Now does anyone know if I then get charged import tax and or handling charges when it gets to the uk???

Or ways of getting round havin to pay :o

    All advice is welcome!

    Cheers Izzy

If the table is classed as handicrafts, should be no Duty, all you will pay is the VAT at 15% of the cost you bought the table for, this is if you were to ship it using an agent, maybe the same with the postal service, but check, anything coming into the UK over 18.56 GBP there is VAT due.

I used to ship 40 foot boxes from Chaing mai, handicrafts no duty, just VAT.

    Hi there,

    Thanks for that,

Yeah the table is a handcrafted coffee table so hopefully that would be ok!

    Much appreciated!

  21. Thong Nai Pan Noi.

From Thong Sala to Thong Nai Pan is about 150 baht a person if taking the regularly scheduled songthaew. There are no regularly scheduled songthaews from Hadrin to Thong Nai Pan so you will be paying for what is esssentially a round trip in a songthaew. Price is negotiable, but I would guess a minimum of 500 and mre like a thousand.

Alternatively, you could take a taxi boat from Hadrin to Thong Nai Pan, no idea what those would charge but I'd say at least the same since, once again, you will essentially be paying for a round trip as the taxi boats do not regularly run there. I recall reading that there was a regularly scheduled large long tail boat that goes from Samui to Thong Nai Pan, but don't know what times that runs.

OH WELL THAT WOULD BE GREAT IF THERE IS A LONGTAIL BOAT FROM SAMUI.....ANYBODY KNOWS WHERE IT LEAVES FROM AND HOW MUCH PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

THANKS FOR THIS BY THE WAY!
