I recieved an email today telling me my dad had joined Linked IN.
Which is not possible as he's not into social networking and is online about once a month.

It's got worse since these FB apps have appeared on smart or iphones. It can't be avoided and people with net access on their phone can't resist. My sister is a pain with this, she's looking at her phone every 5 minutes for someones update so she can 'like' it or type 'lol' next it. I detest it.
How can folks say ''then why are you on thaivisa if you hate social media networks'' ..There's a huge difference. I can log out of thaivisa then leave the house and I'm free from it.
People are walking the streets on facebook. Eating at cafes or restaurants near my table, on facebook. Next to me at a bus stop on facebook.
Luckily still...nobody is on the London Underground on facebook sitting or standing next to me. I hope they keep it that way. Unlike certain underground metro systems where there are phone signals, like Japan or Thailand.
Riding the tube or sitting at home alone is the only peace I get these days.
Or sitting on a plane to some place.........

I've been reading here for some months now, was going to start a newcomers thread saying hello then I've read this about Russians. There are many and people have different ideas about their behaviour and the fact that they bring their own girlfriends and wives with them. Personally I found them no worse than most visitors to Pattaya or Samui.
I was wondering about this, i.e., whether Russian blokes were getting fleeced by enterprising bargirls. Haven't heard too many stories. But if it's true that they're mostly bringing their own, what exactly is the attraction of Pattaya or Phuket? Perhaps they're really coming for the weather and the beaches.
Before this thread gets locked for inappropriate comments, I fully agree. Let's be honest here, what is the attraction in these places if you aren't a s*x tourist? It's not as if those places are well known for anything else.

I find it hard to fathom why every single website or business has to be linked to facebook now and have a like option. Like its shoved down your throat without choice.
Thats why I too believe its more than just an innocent social networking site. They are watching us. The sheep have fallen for it. Half the world are walking round on it on their smartphones. They don't look where they walk down the street whilst gazing into their smackberrys..sorry blackberrys or high phones...sorry iphones..

Spot on in todays tabloid news:
Top 10 most annoying facebook habits

I've literally just deactivated my FB account. Couldn't take seeing civilised mates of mine posting rubbish and pathetic status updates about drinking coffee and sitting on trains and then the big crime in my eyes..using acronyms. Especially 'LOL' that did it for me. I know it'd never be deleted but I'm free of all that social media bullsh*t now, and I feel fine. Have I lost out or missed anything? Some people act like I've now locked myself in a room away from the world, which is laughable.

Not got anything against tourists, but I used to love Pattaya & Phuket about 12-15 years ago, the place was fairly tolerable and was pretty much adults only orientated, which it should be in certain places. Upon a recent batch of trips to both places recently I have noticed a large concerntration of families and tourists who, quite honestly, just get in the way.
I want to have a fun, lads only holiday and NOT mind my language, if youknow what I'm saying.
Since when was Pattaya fit for a family destination? I'm confused. The bars and pubs don't seem to have shut down much though, which is what should be expected (I wouldn't bring a wife & kids there) given they appear to want these tourists rather than the other type.
Apart from Samui, Chang and Krabi, where can I discover the new utopia of an unspoilt and uncrowded bliss without bumping into these tourists? I don't get it. Maybe I been out of Thailand toooo long.

Texting is no longer the novelty it once was, folks want even more instant ways to message others. I've grown too lazy to text unless it's important, ditto phone calls. If, God forbid, I got a smartphone, and kept getting messages from others with similar phones, I'd get annoyed and dump it in a trash can!

<URL Automatically Removed> forum, a discussion board about Thailand although not as large membership as on here. Topics are the usual things folks ask about Thailand and their moderation is well, interesting to say the least.
Didn't sign up but had a look, anyone aware of this forum?
