  1. In Chiangmai and Bangkok I use the Indriver app. I think they still dont charge any fees from the drivers opposed to Grabs 25% commission on the fare. The Indriver collect more or less the whole fare. The app works by suggesting a fare for the chosen destination and drivers can then offer bids which are usually the same as the fare suggested by the app. Good thing is that you can see how far away the driver is from your location and what brand/model of car they are using. If you have a lot of luggage you can then choose a suitable bigger car (which sometimes will have a higher offer for the fare). I find this way more user friendly as i know how far the car is away and which type of car I will get. The fare is usually 20-40% cheaper than Grab....at least for now.

  2. There is a new app called InDriver in some cities in Thailand now. Most Grab drivers in Chiangmai use it as well. At least for the moment they do not charge any commission so the driver collects the full amount. Only cash payments allowed. It works by a bidding system where you can offer a fare. If the fare is too low then the app system will give the lowest fare allowed. After you input your destination drivers will submit their fare which will pop up on on your app screen together with the brand/model of your car and their distance from your location. This give you the option to choose a bigger car if you have a lot of luggage for example. The fares are around 20-40% cheaper than Grab.....For trips to Chiangmai airport Grab always charge about 3-4 times the normal fare for this distance but InDriver does not charge more to go the airport than for other locations. they offer offer motorcycle taxi fares and long distance car fares to other cities.

  3. This model Reboot master 6000 which is similar to Kuvings, using similar big feeding tube, worked well for me for 2 years now . But it is a juicer not a blender. Better for juicing vegetables than blenders. Besides juice it can make smoothies, peanut butter and banana/strawberry sorbets.......comes with 3 attachments used for the various products. Very quiet and solid machine, but more pricey than blenders

  4. So here we have someone trying to avoid pesticides by using a known toxic element that has clear links to damage to lungs and airways. Just check what the US EPA has to say about ozone!

There are many small ozone machines made specifically for house hold use. They don't produce a lot of ozone but enough to ozonate a few litres of water. According to various research papers, ozone is safe to use on fruit and vegetables. Some big vegetable and fruit distributors use ozone soaking to prolong the shelf life of their produce by removing yeast and bacterias that cause rot before distributing to retailers. Another benefit of the ozone. It kills virus and parasites on the produce as well. So no upset stomach/flu from microorganisms after ozone treatment.

Thailand have certain water borne parasites that can be transferred to certain water grown vegetables such as water spinach (Pak boong), penny worth and water mimosa. Ozone also kills those.

Ofcourse we use common sense and don't fill the room with ozone gas .... can keep a window open or do it on the balcony. The smell of ozone is quite strong, so it is easy to know if the concentration in the room is high or not

  5. Sad reading indeed that the department of agricultures own laboratory come up with very different test results than what produced by the UK lab....Rimping super market might test their produce, but they have various grades of certification . They have 5 categories: Organic, pesticide safe, pesticide residue safe, hydroponics and GENERAL. I assume that the GENERAL category means that there can still be chemical residues on the the surface, otherwise why have the pesticide safe and pesticide residue safe categories?

We are using a household ozone generator attached to an airhose that injects ozone into a water bassin where we soak the vegetables and fruits 30-40 minutes before consuming. We use the ozone generator N1668 from www.thailandjuicer.com which is a small machine with an ozone generator and an airpump that pumps the ozone rich air into the water by using an airstone similar to what is used in a fish tank.

Hard to see if it works or not, but various test reports from different sources shows that ozone in water are able to remove anywhere from 50-96% of farm chemical residues on fruits and vegetables. Our machine produce a strong ozone smell so assume it works well....

  6. ....using a blender ofcourse you get a yield equal to everything you put in the blender, but that also means you have to drink all the pulp. which can be fine with many kinds of fruit, but try to drink blended stringy/fibrous vegetables processed in a blender...not very pleasant to get all those rough fibres down the throat. Making vegetables a bigger part of the juicing is good as it mean less sugar intake. Sugar in fruit is still sugar.....

When I mentioned yield I was comparing with centrifugal juicers though. Blending and extracting juice is very different......

The other problem with drinking juice from a blender is that for people who want to intake a lot of juice for various reasons, such as juice fasting, detox etc., the fibrous pulp in the blender juice will fill you up quickly and limit the amount of juice that can be consumed = less nutrients consumed.

Last but not least some research reports show that about 80-90% of the pesticides/fungicides stuck on the surface of fruits and vegetables are extruded together with the pulp when using slow juicers such as the Reboot master 6000. This means we only get to consume about 10-20% of the chemicals on the produce. The majority of the chemicals is extruded with the pulp, a serious advantage compared to juice made in blenders and centrifugal juicers; especially here in Thailand where restrictions on spraying seems rather lax. Interested readers can read about this here: http://juicing-for-health.com/minimize-chemicals.html

Sorry, but this is not new age (advertising) BS, but the pure facts.... smile.png

  7. The Reboot master 6000 mentioned by Vibe, is a slow juicer using a squeezing screw that rotates at only 60 RPM which avoids oxidizing the juice. The cheaper, fast spinning centrifugal juicers from Philips and Marumaru etc. uses a blade with small knifes that tear/cuts into the produce at about 10.000 RPM. The small juice droplets are thrown off the juicing knife and smashed into the juice container below creating a lot of oxidation. This quickly destroys many enzymes and some of the vitamins and micro nutrients in the juice.

Slow juicers are also a lot more quiet, the yield is higher and it can juice much longer before it needs to be cleaned.

The centrifugal juicers sounds like an airplane and tend to clog up with pulp stuck on the small cutting blades. The cutting blades also tend to get dull after a while and then the juice yield gets even worse.

The slow juicers pulp is dry and they produce about 20-30% more juice yield than a centrifugal juicer with most types of produce.

I also use a Reboot master 6000 with large feeding tube and screw. It cost a bit more than a Philips, but in the long term it saves money because of the higher yield and the quality of the juice is so much better because of the "cold press" way of squeezing the juice out of the produce instead of cutting/tearing at app. 10.000 RPM.

I also use my slow juicer for wheat grass and greens/leafs which is almost impossible to juice in a centrifugal juicer....it comes with an extra blank strainer which I use for making peanut butter and banana ice cream and a smoothie strainer ......I bought mine from http://www.lazada.co.th/reboot-master-6000-juicer-black-1389371.html been working very well for about a year now using it almost daily.....sorry you centrifugal guys but I am just a slow juicer fan ! biggrin.png
