  1. The markers are available from advertisements in the Thai farming Magazines( A friend picked up a few in I think Nakon Pratom for me) I am looking to buy more so I will be calling one of the farm equipment companies soon. I've used permanent markers that are for laundry use before and they last a few months as well(Not quite as good as the livestock markers).

    Cheers.

  2. I use colored shapes for our basic tagging needs ie; blue triangle, red square, black circle, etc...) We get by on this with good permanent markers ( they sell some especially for animal tagging ). We breed all our own pigs but we only have about 100 to 150 at any one time.

    cheers,

  3. I never flinched until the rat tail was hanging off a plate of leftovers, hanging over my beers in the fridge. The sight of the tail on my bear really put me off(I had to drink my beer in a glass). So now they clip the tail off and it looks like a small 4 legged chicken(wings for all!) No more worries:).

Well as a big farmer we cut the nuts off the small male pigs all in one go. My father in law used my best skillet and fried up a pile of nads. He sat around dipping them in hot sauce. Couldn't understand why I didn't snack out with him what with all the cold beer and all...

    Cheers all,

  4. Hey Thanks everyone!

This gives me something to think about. Nice barn Konwan.

I'm a bit electrically challenged, so I'll have to come up with something temporarily until thats settled.

Sorry for the late reply, seems I'm a bit satalite challenged as well. Since I'm looking for a dedicated Crap blaster, Konwans system is super cool, plus I've got spare motors. The hoses in each pen is what grabs me, after setup it's easy(I hate dragin' the hoses). Well I've got more electric coming soon.

So.... what do you guys think about outdoor free run pigs?? any thoughts? It's coming up lately in conversation. I don't do it now but am thinking about it. Got some spare rai and fencing. I've seen photos but have not been to a farm personally that does it. Just wondering...

    Thanks again,

    david

  5. Hello all!

I’ve enjoyed reading your posts on pig farming. I am also a farmer and quiet lurker on the board. I’ve got a question; what brand of Pressure washer do you all recommend? How much should I spend? I’m looking to use one for cleaning the pig pens. I’m in the buriram/surin area, but could get from anywhere I guess.

    Thanks,

    david

  6. Hey,

I thought I saw the "gold bond" powder in Care four and lotus, but I could be wrong. About The "bud", some dude with a new bar in buriram claims to have it but I wouldn't know for sure as I never liked it. I'm not the bigest fan of american products but I would say that a great big newyork strip steak from a good Montana ranch would be hard to beat anywhere on this planet.

    cheers,

    bradda

p.s. isn't that powder the stuff that makes you feel like someone set fire to your your magic johnson.... whooow nelly!! :o

  7. I lived in chiang mai for a year or so. and it was a zoo for songkran. They even stretched it out a day or two longer. My fav is laos, in luang prabang they do it up nice. Most everyone goes across the river to a big sand bar and do battle with powder and water.Beer and food tents are set up as well. Book a room in advance if you can or you might be out of luck for a place to stay. :o

  8. I miss good mexican food (santa cruz california) and High quality american beef(porterhouse cut). The steaks available here, even imported, just don't do it for me.I guess that would be all I miss. Oh yeah, I miss the pizza in New york city, growing up I lived off of it, but now....pizza is a lost dream(tom yam gung pizza? Forgetaboutit!!)

    cheers,

    bradda

  9. Check out the DC palace near carefour on srinakarin for "short" times. It's a mia noi hotel with a few floors of interesting things to do. I agree with most of whats been said here.It should be a fun place but it is very "Thai" and things are done in that style. I would stick with the small places as I found them to be great fun.My friends and I would be the only westerners but that was a nice change from the downtown thing. Beware of mafia types in DC palace. They are nice and friendly but when drunk they can be a bit much. Go and explore... you'll find it all.

    cheers,

    bradda

  10. Hey,

I lived near there on srinakarin rd(ban suanton). I loved it. If you speak thai you'll have no problems getting around there. Lots of little places to eat, some big seafood places, good somtom etc... bars on soi M near seacon square are fun. My mates and I would go to a lot of small dives on the side streets, fun as well. Once again I'll say that speaking thai is key out there. You won't run across to many other westerners except those like us who live there. Getting down town is depending on traffic anywhere from 1/2 hour - 2 hours. take the sky train from " on nutt" it is quicker. The central mall in bang na is ok, and food at carefour and foodland is on srinakarin rd near where I lived.

    good luck...
