  1. Dear all Thai-speaking (and reading) Thai-Visa members,

if you have 2 minutes to spend, please help the daughter of a friend of mine and fill out the following survey:

    <<<<Link to external survey removed>>>>

She needs at least 80 answers for her school project on comparing public transportation systems in Bangkok and Munich.

Thanks for your time and support!

  2. What a preposterous and arrogant attitude, and so typical of Western media:

"... believes that it is Thailand’s no rules attitude that causes the problem and said her sister would never have considered riding a bike with no helmet at home, she says that the rules in Australia are what protects Aussies and the lack of them in Thailand is what causes the dangers."

It is them who are not being able to take care of their lifes themselves to blame. If you can't cope with that kind of freedom to take decisions that matter for your life yourself, than better stay home in the first place. Or even better, stay locked up in your room your whole life, because it is too dangerous out there.

Before blaming others and Thailand, just deny them leaving their beloved nanny country. That would solve a lot of problems in the first place.

  3. In a condo where I used to live I noticed similar noise as you described, a deep humming, which was best to detect when putting your ear on the wall. Initially I thought the same as you, assuming it was some music/ subwoofer sound coming from the neighbor's apartment. Only that the flats next to us were both empty. After a while I realised that the sounds originated from another floor. It turned out to be a washing machine which caused the vibrations and ensuing enervating noise, causing the walls to resonate and so spreading throughout the building.

  4. I happened to live in Chiang Mai in the past and liked the Khao Man Gkai (ข้าวมันไก่นันทาราม) restaurant on Siri Mangkala Road. However when I recently moved back to CM and passed by the shop, it wasn't there anymore. Does anybody else remember that restaurant? It used to be open only until 2pm and served only Khao Man Gkai.

I can't image that they have closed down as they were very successful. So my guess is that they have moved somewhere else as the area around Siri Mangkala gets upscaled.

Any further information as to what happened to the restaurant appreciated.

  5. Or any other city in the world, not only in Asia. Writing this from Brussels: a number of excellent restaurants, cheep beer, but quite on the downturn, dilapidated areas abound, dirty streets, metro stations reeking of piss ...

Great hotels, restaurants, bars, cinemas. Like the BTS. Pretty girls. Good medical care. Fantastic shopping. Relatively cheap. Great weather. Good sightseeing.

Now, before anyone replies with a long list of all the things that are wrong with BKK: I am aware of that, but show me a city in Asia that does not have lots of things wrong with it one way or another?

  6. I live in Bangkok (apartment rented in my name) but as of now I'm still staying either on 30 days entry visas or tourist visas. What is required to get the Thai driving license from immigration? A resident certificate? Can I get that as well when I'm living here on a short-term visa? I once got such a residence certificate from my embassy (cost: 1200 Baht) for registering my motorbike in my name. Wonder if it will be as easy or more problematic at Immigration.

    Thanks for your info!

  7. Hi,

this is my first post to the forum.

I have a double entry tourist visa from Vientiane, issued in May 2013. I used the first part when entering Thailand from Laos after getting the visa. I then left the country in July shortly before the first 2-months period of the visa expired to Europe and came back last weekend.

I recognized only now after arriving back in the apartment that the immigration officer at Suvarnabhumi airport issued me only a 4-weeks tourist visa on arrival. That is he either didn't notice the double entry tourist visa or he just ignored it. Whatever the reason, my question is the following:

    - Is the second entry part of the double entry tourist visa still valid (there is no 'Used' stamp on the double entry tourist visa page)? That is, after 4 weeks, can I leave Thailand to some neighboring country, e.g. by land (or does it have to be through an airport?) to Myanmar or Laos, and be entitled to this second entry based on my double entry tourist visa? Basically, giving me a 5-months stay based on 2 (first part of double entry) +1 (4 weeks tourist visa on arrival) + 2 months (second part of double entry).

    Any help highly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Christian
