Part of my garden has a weed membrane covered in small stones for decoration. The membrane does very little to stop weeds. I heard that a vinegar solution kills weeds, though there doesn't appear to be general agreement as to when you can pull the weeds after spraying. As it's now rainy season, would it be worthwhile to use the vinegar solution and then cover the weed area with clear plastic, so that the sun would still help, then pull the hopefully dead weeds after say a day or two?

Very thankful for your suggestions. I'll definitely check out the packet suggestions. Re tank types - they are the concrete ones. Re the levels in the tanks - I see what you mean. I looked back at my OP and didn't mention that water was seeping from out of the tank lid, especially when using the washing machine. From what is mentioned about the sludge build up along with the tanks being full, of liquid, I think I was on the right track with too much sludge, which is where, hopefully, the photo suggestions will help.

I have the tanks sunk into the ground for house waste eg sink and toilet. My understanding is that waste will breakdown naturally in the tanks and the 'cleared' water absorbed into the garden. Some locals tell me that there's no need to add anything extra eg powder or bio liquid. However, I'm thinking about one set of tanks that has a fair bit channeled into them - Kitchen sink, bathroom toilet and sink, utility sink and washing machine. We've had difficulty with these tanks being full. We got the tanks emptied but they fill up fairly quickly bearing in mind that there are just three people living in the house. A plumber is emptying the tanks and clearing out the pipes for any blockage eg fat and grease but all seems fine. I have other sets of tanks for bathrooms that are fine. I'm wondering if the waste volume for the problem tanks is not helping and perhaps the waste isn't breaking down quickly enough? Should I add some bio powder or other liquid to help it along? Here's a photo of powder that was recommended.

I'm sorry to see that you haven't had some replies. I passed it up at first view because you have asked a huge question that would take considerable time and expertise to answer completely.
Preparation is everything when installing a new lawn: incorporation of organic matter/compost, and installation of an irrigation system or planning how you will water the grass with sprinklers or drenching during the dry season. But you have an existing lawn, so you will have to start with what you have and go from there. Aeration, pulling of plugs or poking holes provides entry sites for adding fine compost and maybe gypsum to improve the growing conditions and allow oxygen to penetrate a compacted clay soil.
For weed control, fertilization, and other management ideas, try a search for the many previous discussions here and on the Farming In Thailand forum.
drtreelove, very grateful. I'll check out what you suggested :)

My understanding is that there are generally two types of grass - Malaysian(big leaf) and the other - I have the other. Google has not been my friend - probably asking the wrong questions. I get machines and ads for Thai gardening companies. Apart from watering, what should be done? Aerate, fertiliser and other stuff? I'd appreciate help with details such as what type of fertiliser etc and when. Many thanks.

I'd be grateful for some information about how the transferred money goes into your Thai bank. My normal international bank transfer gets routed through Bangkok Bank(I'm told all these transfers do) then it's transferred into my Kasikorn account, with fees of course. Would you let me know how your situation works from using Transferwise to your Thai account? Many thanks

I'm very grateful for the quick replies. A pleasant surprise about the cost being 1,000 Baht and not 1,900. I also appreciate the mention of being able to do at the airport. I prefer to have everything sorted out before if possible but I'll bear it in mind.

First time looking for Re-entry permit. I believe I need the following:
1 copy of TM 8
1,900 Baht Fee
Photo
Passport Copies - Main Details page and current visa
I have a 'Marriage Visa' and never used Promenada. I'd be grateful for confirmation that the above requirements are correct plus guidance on the 'queue' situation ie do I have to wake the Chickens up at Zero Dark O'Clock and how is the waiting experience compared to say Retirement Visas?
Many thanks.

I've bought them from Boots the Pharmacist before.

I live in Lampang and out and about this morning the water fights have begun.

I'm following this topic thread and may have missed something about what documents etc that CM Immigration are looking for. Please be mindful that I'm not being facetious or sarcastic here and I'd appreciate it if responses weren't. I have been getting my Marriage Visa stamp for 6 years from Chiang Mai and despite my following Thaivisa and looking at the CM Immigration website, there is always something different they require every time, which most people aren't aware of. Don't get me wrong, not always major or difficult, but time consuming for both applicants and staff, with an obvious knock-on effect. Has anyone, perhaps NancyL or others who try to help out the community, ever tactfully spoken to CM Immigration about providing an up to date source of information, which may help them and their customers?

Myself, wife and son were booked on the Chiang Mai - Utapao flight on Thursday 25th June; returning the following Tuesday. We only got a call this afternoon about it being cancelled; reason given was that the military wouldn't give them permission. I wonder what number that was in the 'Book of Excuses'? I was tempted to say that a large chunk of people in this country don't seem to think they need permission to do anything, but that would do something they apparently can get organised - a flight - straight over their heads.
The military do own U-Tapao airport. Its run by the Thai Navy. There may be truth in this? Imagine you signal to Kan Air that the flights are all fine, go ahead with the expansion etc. Kan Air get a few ATR aircraft worth millions and millions of USD. Hire pilots ground staff. When they are fully committed with huge bills to pay left right and center you tell them they can't operate the flights. Perhaps Kan Air have to renegotiate access to UTP from this position.
I do know that the military own the airport and the excuse may have been true. Firstly, they have told at least one other person that it was for 'Technical Reasons', which is conveniently vague. Secondly, I would have expected a standard answer for all enquiries, especially in these days of social media; where conflicting information can cause mistrust and non-confidence in a brand when you give differing information to people. Thirdly, I do realise the big risks you mention in setting up on an airport in this situation but surely, given the huge expense, there would be some contractual certainties built-in. I can see the airline expecting the occasional military emergencies or periodic training causing postponements or re-routing. Having said that, my experience of seeing how business is run in this country would make me think that there could be a few scenarios, including blatant breaking of contracts. It could have been under-achieving targets, which is unfortunate yet a business risk. With all this said, the excuse given to my wife could well be generally true and the military could have just had a change of plan and we don't know the details, including the airline getting due contractual recompense. The difficulty for the airline is that they don't appear to be 'managing' the situation all that well. If it isn't working for Kan then I do feel for them as they gave it a try, but these things happen in business. Some times things just don't work out all that well and you just move on, some can live with that and others can't.

My apologies, a bit of finger trouble. I was supposed to respond including a multi-quote and misfired. Another post submitted - Sorry about that.

As far as I know, at the moment it's just being able to do 90 Day Reports, but the guy only comes about once a week and you need to make an appointment; to meet at the old main police station. I do so wish that we get a full service. I'd be interested if others are more In the Know.

Venturing up to Chiang Rai next week after at least a year. Just wondering if Peter is still running the business? I've tried a couple of phone numbers but no answer or voicemail.

High carb/low fat? You need to read the recently written book on Amazon entitled "The Big Fat Surprise." Also the Time Magazine of 2-3 months ago with a cover that says "Eat Butter." Eating a high carb diet is just asking for diabetes and obesity problems. The LATEST research is your friend. Spacedoc.com is a treasure trove of articles and references to the latest research concerning health and vascular diseases.
I haven't seen any of the sources you've quoted. They seem to imply that fat is bad, to which, I agree - I'm eating no more than 10% fat as a maximum, normally about 4 or 5% ie fresh fruits and vegetables during the day and cooked, without fat, in the evening and I eat as much as I want - as I say, low fat. It's what is called the 'Raw till 4' lifestyle - not diet, lifestyle.

Have not got a clue as to what a Vegan Shoes(office wear) is
How ever if you are looking for quality shoes Birkenstock has opened an out let in Maya. They are a quality shoe that come in different styles maybe some are Vegan Shoes(office wear).
I just mean decent shoes that you can wear working in an office, say a suit, or shirt and tie.

Ok People, I knew I was going to get some stick for this but I've got broad shoulders.
I've been a High Carb/ Low Fat Vegan about 5 months and changing things like shoes and wallet etc when I can find them as cruelty free. For those smirkingly and tongue in cheek, no doubt, advocating Crocs and other loafing shoes, I guess I haven't moved into this century by wearing Crocs to work in an office or teach.
For those who gave messages of support, I thank you.

Mens shoes - I prefer to try-on rather than buy online. I thought it might be a 'Big Ask' but I'm looking for recommendations, preferably in the north, but Bangkok if needs be.

I am changing from "Married" to "Retirement". I checked the CM Immigration website but I could only find specifics about the financial requirements. I've decided not to call the office as I've been given duff information on two occasions. I also have the experience of different Immigration offices asking for different things.
On the financial side I'm going for the 800,000 Baht in the bank, along with bank letter and statement. I would be grateful if someone could let me know what other paperwork and how many copies.
Thanks in advance.

I'm very grateful for the help. I see what you mean by the polytunnel effect. I think I will try and use the thick black plastic idea you mentioned 😊
