  1. Legal question

A resort that requests you pay for your room charge in full when checking in,
then not return the balance if you check out before the booked end of your stay.

    Is this legal?

I heard that a tourist called the Tourist Police and they told the resort they had to return the balance.
  2. There are driving laws on the books but they are enforced.

Bless their little hearts Motorcycles are in or cause most accidents, I believe.

The police only do Road Checks Points and rarely (if at all) cruise and issue tickets for incorrect driving, so people are allowed to mostly drive as fate allows.

I would like to imagine what it would be like if there were Motorcycle cops cruising and giving tickets like in other countries.

I am now learned in the ways of driving here but sometimes I wish it was safer for all.

  3. For men it is as stated above a Pha khao ma (Pakoma) and for women a Patung ( a tube sarong)

I have worn this since first visiting Thailand in 1996. Only one time did I wear it downtown.

I wore it with a Thai jean jacket when I had to run to the local hardware store.

Not an eye was batted by anyone in the store.

The Pakoma for men is usually a plaid, but I have seen strips and other patterns.

The Pakoma can be had in traditional Thai markets for 120 to 150 baht, (3-5 USD).

I prefer 100% cotton as they soften with use and age, the blends I never find comfortable.

The Patung for women is more colorful and has mostly has flower designs.

They say there are 100's of uses for the Pakoma, I made a sling for a baby to take a nap when we were on a beach trip.

It is a comfortable type of dress for either men or women.

As the wife and I are naturists and usually nude at home it is easy to grab a bit of cloth to wrap in, to answer the door.

I usually end up with a favorite one and wear it until a hole is worn in the seat...lol.

  4. Here in Pattaya I go before the doors are open so I am one of the first inside. I always meet some intersting expats while I am waiting for the office to open. From the times the doors open at 0800, I am finished before 0900.

Thanks for the updated info on the 10 year Visa. I dont think much of the 10 year Visa, as it does not make much sense to me. I really do not see what the advantages are either to the government or the expat. Every 90 days I renew and my fourth visit is also Visa renewal. With the 10 year you still visit immigration every 90 days. So it does not save you from the 4th visit.

  5. As Ben Franklin said " Fish and visitors smell in 3 days."

    Friends and family......hmmm

My high school and army buddy and his wife offered to put me up on our upcoming trip to the US.

I would not stay longer than 3 days, it is just being polite.

There are real friends and then there are acquaintances.

  6. Surprisingly, this is a great place for family travel. There are far too many attractions to list, but anything and everything is here: aquarium, wildlife parks, elephant treks, go karting, water parks, beaches, boat rides, boat tours, video arcades, fun restaurants, reasonably priced shopping, and hundreds of other things and places to go. All reasonably priced. Also Mini Siam park, a few botanical gardens, and post-179467-0-89936700-1426273030_thumb.day boat trip to Koh Larn (this is a must see, as the beach water is crystal clear), 20 minutes by speedboat 400 baht one way, or 45 minutes by ferry boat (30 baht per person one way)... boats leaving from Bali Hai pier, just past Walking Street... boats leave about once an hour. Koh Larn is beautiful, like paradise... almost.

As people have stated Jomtiem or Naklu areas are best for families lodging, just stay out of Central Pattaya.

I suggest Same (Samay) Beach see attached photo
