  1. Many years ago there used to be a bar in Casablanca. Rick's. "Everybody goes to Rick's."

Don't think it's ever been beat. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Feeling old tonight ...

  2. Thanks for sharing this and many considerations. Take your lead from those around you. Be present. Say little. Be ready for hoots of laughter at strange moments &vice versa. Good time to be generous and then some.

Been too much death in this part of Isan lately. Fare thee well &please report back when able.

  3. Buried deep in this thread is a post aggressively attacking someone for pressing the Like button.

Given the legal framework of the country in which most of us choose to live, and recent statements from the authorities on Facebook posts & sweets, this strikes me as disturbing.

    What are we becoming?

Can we all just take a moment to draw breath, please?

  4. For my money -- and I use the phrase advisedly -- GR is as ok as any other dating site. Take usual precautions. Whatever the guy may say, you will end up paying somehow. Budget for that. In no way censorious, just experienced & realistic. Good luck, have fun, keep your heart in the room-safe.

  5. Left field but ... Thought about Taiwan ? I worked there 100%legally on a basic TEFL and could work all the hours God sent, picking up lots of loaded private students along the way.

There is a huge reservoir of highly motived students there and it led to me landing a well-paid government job.

Study mandarin while you're there and open many more doors than would result from learning Thai.

Anyway don't forget the most important advice if all: DARE !

  6. If I wanted to be really tiresome, I'd suggest that we all have fun by submitting draft questions for the 'referendum'. How about this...

"Given that we the government are considering proposals to double the rice subsidy, accede to the demands of rubber protesters and throw in a little bit more, abolish income tax and initiate a programme that will assist poor pigs from rural areas in learning to fly, do you think the proposed constitution is A. Good or B. [illegible]"

In the part of Isan where I live, the people are salt of the earth but understanding the kind of question posed in a referendum is beyond most of them. A road made of quicksand leading to a swamp ... best to stay away, folks, because the whole thing would divide on party lines and be not worth the effort.

Reconciliation? My neighbours hate the yellow faction to a degree that defies understanding. Not going to happen.
