  1. ThaiCelt, Sorry for delay in reply. It's for house with five aircons. Looking for on grid system, possibly 5Kw up depending on cost. There's a company I believe on the Udon- to Nong Khai road, somewhere near the railway crossing.

       Thanks 4 any advice.

  2. Hello people, does anyone know of any reputable solar power installation companies in the Udon Thani district. Or Nong Khai, or if there aren't any in these areas, any good recommendations, greatly appreciated. Looking for 5Kw, 7Kw or 10Kw on grid, or depending on cost, off grid system.

    Thanks

     John

  3. When I contacted the Thai Embassy in London a few years ago to enquire about getting a non-immigrant "O" multiple entry visa. The information I got back was that after ninety days you were not allowed back until 48 hours later. I need to clarify this, as I'm applying for an "O" visa soon and need to know if Nong Khai Thai immigration will not let you back in until 48 hours after exiting. I had an "O" visa years ago and when I did a border run at Nong Khai and came back the same day, an hour later, the immigration officer, when re-entering Thailand gave me a not so nice glare, but let me in anyway.

  4. My friend and his family live in Pohvisai area of Isaan. Today my friend told me that his father, who is the eldest sibling of eight children, had a visit from his youngest sisters husband or boyfriend. My friends Grandfather did not leave a will and had land estimated to be worth around 20 million Baht. My friends father was told by the husband or boyfriend of his youngest sister that he and two others of the family would be murdered if they didn't sign over the estate to the youngest sister and her husband or boyfriend. Now my friend and his mother and father and the other threatened members of the family are worried that if they don't relinquish their rights to a share of the estate they could be murdered by paid for hitmen.  What sort of country is Thailand, when people can go around threatening to murder people? is Thailand completely lawless or is it something to do with corruption.? My friends family are good people who have to live with the threat of being murdered by some low life hanging over them if they don't give up what is legally their right to claim a share of.

  5. There's things people have commented on here that you can read a lot into. How about the guy who says he thought his wife would get better medical treatment in Thailand than the USA? nothing to do with cost? The guy who made this statement, "Here my wife has a good job ,not the ones she had to do in the UK,"and goes on to say he's never had to work again? if you've got any Thai ladies that don't mind keeping a farang financially let me know, lol! The guy who made this statement "Only place you can find a mint condition 22 year old to hang out of," sounds like one of the guys going through his second teenage years. So many of them in Thailand, beer guts, bald and riding about on choppers thinking their young dudes, nice way to think though. How about putting the question from another perspective like, Why do expats return to their own respective countries. I know many that do and mostly because of financial reasons, oh! and in the case of the UK., not forgetting the good old NHS, nothing free in the land of smiles, or the USA. There's many good reasons to live in any Asian country, not just Thailand. Asian people have a better attitude than westerners, but in the case of Thailand, especially sin city, Pattaya, there's more dead heads from the West living there than there is non dead heads. Also nobody has mentioned the fact that there are a lot of expats living in Asia that are not paying any income tax on their earnings, be it from overseas or from businesses in the country their living in.It's a fact that if you spend more than 180 days in any country even as a tourists, you are liable to pay income tax, but then as in Thailand, "mai pen rai" is the attitude from all walks of life to paying taxes. Can't wait to read all the comments this post will bring. My ears are stinging already. lol!

  6. Mudcrab, whoever you are. You commented on my msg., you said get a job? So can you tell me how you know I'm not working? You clairvoyant or something. You also said get a job and dream about living Thailand? What makes you think I want to live in Thailand? I suppose you live there, your working, paying taxes? So I presume your a foreigner living in Thailand, so you must be either rich, or working to live there? If your working I'd bet my bottom dollar you don't pay any taxes there, so for you to tell me to get a job and start paying taxes, sounds a bit rich! excuse the pun. I wouldn't mind betting if the #hit hit the fan, you'd go scurrying back to wherever you come from.

  7. Quite amazing how the nearly bankrupt UK., all of a sudden can find billions to invest in Thailand. Maybe the UK., Tory despots are going to use the money they've saved by decimating public services and not giving nurses and local council workers a pay rise for years. Yes I think theycould well afford it, but oh! what about the 56 billion GBP., for HS1 & HS2., here in the UK., I suppose their going to postpone that for a hundred years, so they can invest in the land of corruption.

  8. I seem to remember some time ago reading an article on TV., that the Thai government were going to implement compulsory insurance for tourists arriving in Thailand, if they didn't take it out before they left their home country, they would have to pay for it at the Thai airport they arrived at. What happened to that idea? They could charge tourists for insurance say 100GBP., per person when they arrive and as long as they could keep the thieving hands of the government officials that collected the insurance premium from pocketing it, they could put the funds into the Thai government hospital system to bolster it and if some unfortunate tourist needed hopitilisation they could be sent to a government hospital. Just a thought that could give the Thai national health funds some support and also give basic treatment if needed.

  9. I seem to remember reading yesterday that Thailand was one of the best countries to retire too. Cheap health services? Where did that one come from? I believe a mate of mine has been repatriated to the UK., just recently. I was told third party that he had suffered a stroke. I also was told it cost 15,000 GBP.,for air ambulance to get him home. These medical charges that are being quoted seem a bit drastic, but knowing that Thais think all farangs are millionaires, nothing would surprise me. I had 48 hours in a hospital in Udon Thani, with Hep., A., all I was given for treatment was vitamin B intraveneously. My room was only 400 baht a night, very basic, but the bill they came up with was 30,000 + baht, that included some blood tests, but nothing other than that and the vitamin B. So nothing would surprise me about the Lol!

  10. English girl raped and murdered in 2008 by fishermen

I was on a ship anchored off Koh Samui in 2008, I think that was the year, when an English girl was raped and murdered by two fishermen, who had swum ashore from their boat, which was sheltering from bad weather, the same as our ship was. They raped her then killed her, swam back to their fishing boat and told all the other people on board. Fortunately the skipper radioed the authorities and the culprits were arrested. They were initially given the death sentence and presumably it was going to be carried out, even though they admitted doing it. It was reported at the time that they were to be made an example of by executing them to warn any other people of the consequences of carrrying out such barbaric crimes. I never knew until I researched after this latest double murder, that their sentences were commuted to life imprisonment. Which as from my knowledge of prison in Thailand, through the media, you'd probably be better getting executed. So I was wondering if the police had thought about the possibility that maybe there were fishing vessels just off the island and that some of the crew could of come ashore and been responsible for this outrage? Just a thought!

  11. L&M cigarette butt. Now the police say they have found an L&M cigarette but with DNA of two people matching the DNA found on sperm from the victim. Well that points to two people sharing a cigarette, which is common among either local or immigrant workers, who share cigarettes sometimes because of lack of money. I can't see tourists sharing a cigarette unless it had been used for the purpose of smoking marijuana, so therefore it points strongly to an Asian connection.

  12. Thai Junta chief calls into question the victims conduct? I'd like to know what his reasoning is for that statement. Maybe he means that two tourists from good backgrounds should not be enjoying themselves when on holiday. Maybe its time for them to bring in a curfew that explicitly bans tourists from being out after dark. At least they would still be alive in that scenario, but St. Ives would seem to be a better bet for a holiday. At least you could pretty much guarantee you'd be going home after your holiday and not to a morgue.

  13. What if Thaksin had farang in him? If I'm not mistaken the last military imposed Prime Minister was born in the UK., or so I'm led to believe, to diplomatic parent/s. He must be substantially cleaner than Thaksin, but then I suppose so is the Mafia. It's sad when miss-guided, uneducated people do not understand why Thaksin promised the rural poor all the things he did just to get elected in the first place, they were his licence to plunder the countries assets. They say that a military imposed Prime Minister is undemocratic, which is true, but at least he had some moral backbone, unlike the "Democratically elected" plunderer, who now has to run the country from Dubai. So what's democratic about him telling his little sister how to run the country and to get an amnesty bill through parliament, so that the he can get back into Thailand to take up where he left off. If it was my country, I'd rather have a clean military imposed leader, even though not so called democratically elected, than a democratically elected DICTATOR! We've seen this all before in South American countries, where once elected these sort of phariahs think that gives them permission to rule the people and not SERVE THE PEOPLE, which is what true democracy is supposed to be about. Love of your country and serving your fellow countrymen and women, not your own greedy power hungry agenda. Thailand, like all the other corrupt countries, past and present will get to an acceptable true democracy one day, but until the likes of the past corrupt system is eradicated in the minds of the people, it will be business as usual. Corruption, Corruption and more Corrruption. Sad that the masses of Thai people, whether they wear Red or any other colour do not realise that their country and standard of living is going nowhere with the likes of these people in charge. Thaksin bought Man.C football club. His motive was only to try to give legitimacy to try to use the UK., as a bolt hole if necessary. Thankfully the authorities in the UK., saw straight through this and after he was a convicted felon, denied him the right of a visa to stay in the UK. He thought he could use the UK., the same as he could buy his way into popularity with the Thai people. Maybe he thought all countries behaved the same way as he did/does.

  14. What Thailand needs is leaders who serve the people and their country once elected, instead of presuming that once elected, that's their mandate to pilfer the countries assets. This is the mentality of greed driven people and families in many countries of Asia and Africa. People like these should not only be stripped of their assets, but their nationality also and cast out into the wilderness. It makes me angry to see good honest peoples of countries manipulated by the likes of Thaksin, just to abuse the power entrusted to them. Democracy is meant to be elected "To serve the people". If these sort of people love their country, why do they rape its assets? They have no love of their country, only love of the countries GDP., they can steal.
