  1. I don't know if this link will be allowed, but there is much more to this case than the posters on this forum seem to be aware.

The wife's body was found in Laksi, the husband was found hanging from a tree in Korat with suspicious bruising and burns to his legs and feet. His car was not found. He allegedly hung himself yet he could have killed himself with his service revolver. For those who say "case closed" you need to get all the facts or refrain from commenting altogether.

  2. I sincerely hope no one makes a post mocking the no work permit situation because it's real and no matter the good intent can result in problems for the person(s) involved.

A work permit is needed for anything that can be classed as work and all it takes is one person to complain for a reason best know to them but if a foreigner is involved ... ! I'm not saying the authorities in the area concerned would be heavy handed depending on the circumstances but i am suggesting it's not a chance worth taking.

Sad it can come down to this.

Yeah one reason why many don't lift a finger in fear of being arrested and deported. I remember it was the same at the time of the Tsunami when many foreigners came over to do their bit, but the authorities took a heavy hand on the situation, and arrested many. They see foreigners as an interferance, ones which could take jobs away from Thais by their meer presence. So if your mowing your lawn, painting, doing whatever around the house in public view, or even picking up liter on a beach, you could expect a visit from immigration. Work is work, even if you don't get paid ! Thailand is for Thai people, not foreigners.

I have searched but cannot find any accounts of foreign helpers being arrested for legitimately assisting with the tsunami cleanup efforts. Could you please point me toward the evidence of these arrests. Or are you simply repeating hearsay?

  3. We have had three occasions where the cables to the house had to be repaired. The first time a bullet severed the cable on a telephone pole across the road. The last two times (apparently) squirrels had chewed through them. Otherwise we've had good, prompt service from 3BB. However late in November the connection was terrible., slow, dropping out and they did advise to turn off the router at night. I was sceptical and tried it but i don't know it made any difference. The connection has returned to normal in the last weeks.

  4. I

knew the 15 day rule wouldn't last - they are losing too many tourists. More Thai ineptness ...

Not according to TOT I have been here for 7 years and listened to dribble like that every year. I don't need any one to tell me I just walk around the streets a little bit and it is obvious that there is morre tourists.

What about the Commonwealth of Australia? Home to the most civilised and cultured people on the planet!

What about them ? I could perhaps understand this preferential treatment likewise being afforded to the indigenous tribes in Australia but to open it up to what is in fact a majority of decendants from convicted criminals then perhaps your question is answered

I was just wondering how true your statement was:

Over the 80 years more than 165,000 convicts were transported to Australia.[1] The number of convicts pales in comparison to the immigrants who arrived in Australia in the 1851–1871 gold rush. In 1852 alone, 370,000 immigrants arrived in Australia. By 1871 the total population had nearly quadrupled from 430,000 to 1.7 million people.[2]

So in 1871 - 10% of the popular were convicts....

Well studies have shown that 1 out of 3 have criminals in their background. As far as the gold rush went a lot of them moved on to Canada.

It wasn't until; the early 90s that Australia taught the truth about there not so humble beginnings. Even then they left out the part where they would not have made it if it hadn't been for the native population.

What studies? I'd love to read them. but of course you can't furnish them can you?

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

    You must be a Brit!

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story :)

  6. Crikey, the exact opposite of what we usually hear about right? farang loses all to Thai lady etc.. Not saying it makes it right but it is kind of eyebrow lifting stuff.. By the way, do we know the skank really anAmerican or was it another Nigerian special do we think?

    Can't help but think Nigerians.

    Its definitely their style.

Actually, more the style of Cameroonian scammers. They're legendary for pet scams where they offer valuable or exotic pets for sale internationally. The modus operandi is often having an apparently legitimate transport company that is transporting the pets or other valuable items to the buyer. The buyer receives a call to say the goods have been held up at customs and a money must be paid to release them. Usually though the money is paid to Western Union not a local account.

  7. I smell Rat ...wai2.gif The yellow Peril will insist on keeping their money in their Banks and are willing to further insert their influence into Thai economic mechanisms that include the Thai SET , Bank of Thailand , Bond Products ..... blink.png

"the yellow peril"! Seriously, do people still talk like that?
