  1. ... and THAT is why I stay in Chiang Mai..but you know what? hardly a thing different here, or anywhere else for that matter. Just the smaller the place, the more undiluted the problems are

Screw Koh Toa. If it is like it sounds the perps will do little time in great comfort and return triumphantly. The place was on my list of places to go but I will never go there nor the nearby Island as it is most likely same same.

I make it a point to stay away from most of the islands and the South to be honest, lets have a look at what we have shall we. Overpriced food and pretty much everything else is too. Drunken naive farang in huge numbers, beach scams in abundance, tuktuk mafias, highly powerful criminal families controlling this and that, crazed addicts to the slave yaba running around stealing, mugging and raping, constant terrorism around Yala/Hatyai area, sorry I think I shall stay away from such places, god knows why facepalm.gif

Call me crazy, I like peace and quiet, to see actual Thailand or what is left f it, not some Westernized jumped up resort in meth.

  2. "if they were so competent they would have been arrested a week ago" - WHAT A LOAD OF THE PROVERBIAL!

Lets assume briefly that the Thai legal model at least loosely, follows the "presumption of Innocence" paradigm.

Lets assume briefly, that Investigators were actually doing their job.

Sorry... how do you think it would have been solved in 3 days? It certainly would be a MIRACLE in Australia, England or any other modern and legally competent country, let alone Thailand with its myriad of issues in this regard.

What I am saying to you, is that ANY PROPER INVESIGATION WILL TAKE TIME. Its the people who scream for an early outcome who don't care if the wrong person is arrested for the sake of a 'result' - and assuming that because a murder occurs, automatically everybody must know who did it, is about as immature and stupid as it gets.

When you make assumptions, you MISS FACTS

Let them do their job and take an appropriate amount of time to finalise a result. Proper Police work requires a heck of a lot of work to produce a Brief of Evidence that has the legs to sustain scrutiny of a Court, and in this case a Court that will have A LOT of media attention upon it!

You've got absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

He is the brother of a village headman in Koh Tao.

He also said another suspect is also a son of that village headman. But he has already to Bangkok.

Wow...impressed !!! Not what I was expecting at all

    Really?

This is exactly what I suspected.

Koh Tao is a lawless place where influential people can pretty much do as they please with impunity, and have done for a long time.

If the police had not focussed only on foreigners and Burmese fisherman because they said that there was no way a Thai could be responsible, they may have solved this a week go.

Local people must have spoken up, and if these guys did in fact do it, I am glad the police caught them...although one wonders without the glare of the International media, would they have solved it...before the next "crime du jour" captured everyones attention.

Next stage is the punishment as the world watches...death penalty reduced to life in prison for the confession?

The surprise is the arrests, not who did it.

The police probably did knew who did it days ago have been buying time by throwing up scapegoats and other smoke and mirrors in the hope of finding a way out for the son and brother of the influential figure.

Finally someone even more influential realised the damage this was doing to Thailand (thanks to international media) and said 'enough is enough'.

Most of the police investigating are from outwith the area these crimes were committed.

The minute police from another division eg Lumpini in Bangkok arrive on the scene no matter who you think you know your protection just flew out the window and the case need not be anywhere as hideous or serious as this one.

No thai policeman would stick his neck out for someone who commits crimes like these and you are talking complete nonsense.

    ==================================================

Actually he's pretty much on the money. You think other divisions don't stick together? wrong. If it's in the interest of Thailand anything can happen, there are no rules. The level of corruption in Asian countries is is hard for most ppl to comprehend. Common sense doesn't play a part in it.

If they were so competent it would of been solved last week.

  3. Well mate, 'time in situ' does nothing for qualifying comments on contemporaneous matters.

Secondly, a visit to President Hotel 30+ years ago cannot be any proper basis for commenting on what this establishment's operators allege it or wish it to be viewed as in the current time. Moreover, I rarely go to any bar/pub/club so I can tell you only what I saw, not what the general reputation may be.

Thirdly, it seems like you have found a nice niche in quite, regional Thailand, enjoy it, its nice to know not everybody frequents sheet holes here.

And as far as head men are concerned, the chain of corruption goes up and down, based on financial power, not necessarily level of position. Taksin was utterly deposed, but still remains phenomenally powerful.. point proven, id say.

To the guy who said nobody knows the real story about Village Headmen, and tried to paint them in the light of rose coloured glasses, dear Sir, you are a fairy dancing in a fanciful world. See my last post. Power in this country is an open invitation to do whatever you want. The odds of any regional village chief being above reproach are beyond calculation, although there is an exception to every rule, it is MOST UNLIKELY

I don't think any village headman can be above a junta leader. It will be solved if the PM wants it solved.

The local headman is rarely above the kamnaan. And as for this dancing fairy, he has been around the Kingdom far, far longer than the vast majority of posters here and whose life in-country is as gritty and ethnic as it gets. I just prefer to stay away from the tourist centers where the corruption in search of the tourist spending power perverts everything. Last time I was down in that neighborhood was visiting Samui with my folks in 1991 and I was so depressed by the changes that I never returned again.

And Khun Jaidee, the President Hotel has never been a "upper class place". But they did use to have a great late night lingerie show back in the 1980s.

  4. Lukecan, I already stated this (as you said below) in an earlier post. I was merely stating that Village headmen are like everybody with power in this country, they will abuse it. I made no statement that they were above the powers to be in this matter. The Headman himself is not a suspect as I understand, only his family members, so the two conversations are not related.

Lets hope, all side conversations aside, there is a genuine outcome. This kind of local Mafia/Gangster crap that goes on EVERYWHERE in Thailand, because of support from the powers above (if not, involvement.......) will finally get something of a kick in the arse. Cheers and condolences to the families of the victims.. for UK people, or any foreigners not living in Thailand.. tell your families to AVOID the party beach areas, avoid drugs and parties, avoid Bars.... its an open invitation to often irreconcilable problems in this Country. Take care

  6. Those Police from 'outside G'oh Tao' - will do what they are paid to do. And you can interpret that as you see FIT depending on your level of experience in this country. HOWEVER, in this case, what the are PAID TO DO will fall in line with Mr. General PM's direct instructions, which in this case, is to obtain a factual finding.

Its a shame, that someone with THAT much power is needed to bring this to an accurate head.

and the comments about Village Headmen.. well.. what did you think? In Thailand, anyone with a position of Power or Respect, or who has money (and mostly the two go hand in hand) can do what ever the hell they want. Ive seen it over and over again.. and over.....

We love the free and easy nature of regulation in this country.. but geez..it could do with some serious legitimate governing and policing.!

Secondly, the OP wanted to locate a serious gym, so the information was relevant to the OP's needs.

Thirdly - I've been to TM Muscle Gym, its got a great range of good quality free weights and machines, but it kind of lacks atmosphere. Good for a hard core workout if you don't want any frills. Price is now 9,000/mth (just gone up as of course, new gyms have intro prices that never last). Per month was 1000/bt so still cheap.

  8. When you check out the FB link, have a look at the pics and theres a short guy with monstrous arms.. I nicknamed him Tiny a few years ago when I used to work out with him @ Duangtawan Hotel Gym. All the big boys are going to TM - that's the best reference you'll ever need! My best mate is a pretty big lad and he rates himself as 'small' in the company of the core customers there. Go and enjoy! I'll be there ;)

  9. TM MUSCLE GYM! Its the newest and best in Chiang Mai. Ive been going to Gyms here for over 4 years and seen a few. Powerhouse is so over priced it makes my hair fall out thinking of it!

I have a few Thai mates who are pretty big lads and they all have gravitated away from their previous gyms to TM Muscle Gym. Its near the train station. All the gear is new, they have everything, its a VERY SERIOUS gym and there are a LOT of big guys go there. It's THE place to be at the moment.

Normally Thai gyms are great when they are new but rarely maintained over time, so get into the newest gyms and enjoy them while they are in great order.

TM Muscle gym - currently 7,500 baht per year!!! Cant beat that! Best in Chiang Mai as of June 2014.

  10. Love it! Just watched the video. Kind of strange sitting in your apartment, somewhat non-plussed - then come across this and get all enthusiastic about the place again! Goes to show, get out and live it! don't take anything for granted, this place is amazing!!! (and if you don't believe me go home for 3 months and see how much you miss the place! ;) )

  11. The absolute best person to contact - Khun Tern, owner of TA & Sound Chiang Mai, he is an expert in window tinting for houses and cars.

    www.ta-sound.com

He speaks excellent English, he's a very 'jaidee' guy and takes care of his customers very well.

    086-4210533; 089-1918189.

    Cheers

PS - if you want any CAR AUDIO work, he's the best in the north of Thailand!

  12. Gday!

Im heading back to LOS to live in late August. I have had a big background in Car audio over the years, run some huge soundoff events, judged CAN events, and had a few real nice old skool systems.

Im looking for any info on Car Audio competitions/events in Thailand (i will be based in the north, but travel south regularly as needed for events).

Im also looking for good places to BUY gear in Thailand..

I'm specifically looking for midbass (8" x 6) drivers and Subs (15" x 4 high power/heat handling). And despite that i can do some things myself, I will need a TOP company to do the install, no matter where in Thailand. CAN ANYONE ADVISE GOOD INSTALL COMPANY, GOOD PLACE TO BUY QUALITY GEAR?

I am currently buying some 2/H amps/front end speakers to drag in with my 40kg luggage allowance.. (good luck.. 40kg.. ohmy.png ).

I already have a Rockford Fosgate 8230 Head Unit; Rockford Fosgate X3 Crossover; Rockford Fosgate Power 500a2 amp; Rockford Fosgate Power 800a2 amp, and iminently shall be receiving another Rockford Fosgate Power 800a2 amp; Boston Acoustics 6.5lf pro 3 way splits; and Boston Acoustics 6.4 lf pro splits.

System philosophy is SQL - "sound quality loud" wink.png Hopefully SPL (real old skool rating) around 153-155db. Vehicle of choice for install DMAX 4 door, or Hilux 4 door.

Im looking for a good working order Rockford Fosgate Power 1100a2 amp also.. real power house, to run the subs.

Any info / advice / new contacts in the Car Audio world will be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Jaidee wink.png

  13. OMG!

I reckon I know this bloke.. for a few years i have know of an Italian in Chiang Mai who fits this bill PERFECTLY - except to say that he isnt as austentacious as perhaps someone with 10 mil in their bank may be.

He often said that he could only get money intermittently.. im guessing.. per month distributed to him from an Italian Account in figures insufficient as to cause alarm from transactions exceeding $10,000 (etc).

As an ex Government Fraud Investigator I let my gut feeling rule my judgements, and ive never been wrong. I first knew this bloke incidentally from renting at the same guesthouse, and did my best to avoid him as he found that my legitimacy gave him credibility.. much to my horror..!

You meet all kinds in Thailand.. some you just want to keep at arms length and say hi to sometimes in a fleeting capacity. He is in that category. Calls himself Giovanni..

The first time i talked with him, I remember he told me that the Italian Mafia had chased him out of Italy and taken over his bar, promising to spare his life if he stayed away, but they would send him enough money each month to survive.. sound sus straight up? haha i thinkkkkk soooooooooo

Late last year i bumped into him again, Chiang Mai is a small place, he had shacked up with a Thai woman and had a baby together (for visa/business purposes no doubt); And funnily enough a random conversation ensued where he admitted to me this time that he couldnt go back to Italy because he is wanted by the Italian Government for Tax evasion.. sound familiar..?

He was running a bar now in the old city Soi 2 I think opposite the water/road from Loi Kroh.. and to the left slightly.. about 150 metres down on the left.. a small bar, well furnished.. and runs a barbeque every afternoon and hassles everyone going by. He had commenced living upstairs with his girlfriend. He told me the last time i saw him before this, maybe early 2012, that he was opening a bar and he would never pay tax in Thailand (F*** the Thai Government.. F*** the Thai Police he would say.. hmmm keep this in mind...)

He's a grubby little sleazebag.. seriously.. just the kind i would expect to have sex with underage kids or traffic people.. and have more than a few dubious connections, it was clear that he was involving himself with people of the same mind.. dark shadows.. He would go to Mae Sai for a border crossing visa stamp run every fortnight.. to service his many women on the side along the way, and i wouldnt doubt.. try on paedophilia and whatever else over the border..

Call me crazy.. but the guesthouse that he previously stayed at for 3 years - where i met him first, was owned by a Thai Police Officer (LOL!!!) and his wife. I know the owners and they are very nice. But Mumbo Italiano told me that he had problems when he left, had trashed the room and refused to pay.. for clean up or for the huge electricity bill he had. Now.. remember.. Thai police officer is owner.. and now seriously off side.. stupid farang!!!

SO 1 + 3 = 27.. I reckon hes drawn the crabs.. they've had a good look into his past, and HEY PRESTO.. your on the INTERPOL WANTED List.. BYE BYE!!

Boy im gonna be keen to go by that bar when im back in a couple of months and see if its all closed up ;)

Might grab me some bargain black label bottles ;))
