I would also ask what it was like getting the police report and 5 disease check (leprosy, syphilis, et al) in Vietnam so that you could get that O-A visa. Here in China, it takes about a year to process a police report and I cannot find any hospital or clinic that can check for all of the diseases on the list. I called the Thai Embassy in Beijing and asked if they could recommend a place and they basically told me: "not their problem".

I agree with you in part; the fancy Gold card is absolutely useless. Worse than useless actually, because you are told it will assist in things like opening a bank account, etc. Nope, not one bit. The Visa itself enables anyone under 50 yo a way to stay in Thailand long term. Nothing more.

I beg to differ. For anyone under 50yo, the so-called Elite Visa offers a way to stay long term in Thailand. Yes, it is expensive, it is no more than a glorified Tourist Visa with no extra usable benefits and you get basically no assistance from the Elite company, it still has it's place.

They only wish. UK level travel restrictions? Far from it. They take it to a whole new level in China. First two weeks in a government designated hotel. You have no choice and no idea of which hotel until you are delivered to it on a bus. Then 3rd week in a hotel if you have no home in China. If you have a home in China, you can stay there but cannot leave that home during that 3rd week. Then an additional 4th week for observation in some locales. I am just finishing up that 4th week. A total of 8 PCR tests in that 4 week period. Had to pay for 7 of them. So, I don't think you will see very many Chinese tourists in Thailand anytime soon, if ever.
