Falangaman,
Everythings been said about the rules etc and not knowing you financial position and banking rules in the UK don't know if this will help but.
In Australia you can borrow using your house for security up to certain limits that varying between lenders for an investment without needing to tell them what it is for. I borrowed $50,000 (1,500,000 baht) and with some lenders could have gone to $100,000 (3M baht), just had to tell them it was for an investment. Could have been for anything, shares, antique furniture whatever, and purchased a Condo in Jomtien. The money went into my account and I just transfered what I needed to Thailand, stating that it was for the purchase of property and got the necessary documents from the Bank for the purchase. The interest also was standard housing rate as my home in Sydney was the security.
Hope this helps.

Rocky,
QBE's office is on Sukhumwit Rd near the Central Pattaya Rd intersection. Heading south its on the left hand side. Zurich Insurance have an office across the road from them, right hand side heading south. I don't know if Zurich write householders insurance in Thailand but its worth crossing the road to ask.
Hope this helps.

I have a house in Bangkok and the contents of a condo in Jomtien insured with them. The importants bits of the policy are in English which is good for somebody like me who does not read Thai.

Hi Juzza, you are as new as me to this site. I also was lucky with Phuket. I flew in to Bangkok on Christmas day and had originally planned to fly to Phuket early on the 26th Dec with my wife and daughter. At the last minute we changed our plans deciding to spend New Year with friends in Pattaya. We were just bloody lucky

Valentines Day 5 years ago my wife and I were returning home by Taxi from Bangkok to Bangkapi on the motor way when we were stopped by Police. They said that they were looking for illegal workers. I was asked for my passport which I did not have on me. It took my wife 30 minutes of arguing and pleading with this plain clothes cobber not to have me locked up until they could confirm that I had a legal visa.
I do not want this shit to happen again so I always carry my passport when in LOS.

I just sold two 37 m² units in View Talay 2 Bldg 'A' for 1.7 m Baht a piece having bought them off plan and had them refurbished to my spec. They cost 684,000 Baht each, less 7% for cash upfront.
I still own another three, and would be happy to sell you an annual two week Timeshare for 500,000 Baht per unit.
You really should get out more.

I agree with you Phil. Currently selling a 42sq metre studio on a low floor in VT 2 for 1.5M which I bought fully fitted out including good furniture for 1.1M in Aug 2003, plus its been rented the whole time.
Now buying two units in VT 5 on a higher floor, sea views etc.
Viewtalay buildings look basic from a distance but they are maintained well and hold there value.
