Evidence of a pension. Letter of certification from a Thai bank supported by bank statements showing a pension being transferred to the pensioner’s bank account every month for at least 12 months.

I wonder if this means that you have to have your pension being direct deposit to the Thai Bank? Or you can just show deposits of which you transferred yourself from your bank to the Thai bank at minimum required amounts.

I have the same question - US pension transferred to US bank then 65k transferred to Thai Bank. I was told at Bangkok Bank the other day that they will print a statement of all your foreign deposits for the last 6 months and Include a letter of confirmation for this issue.

I personally have payments to make in the States so don't want all my pension sent here.

  2. Does anyone know where to buy a foldable foam futon (tri-fold) for the floor in Chiang Mai? I used to have a nice 3" one I found on Chiang Moi rd but that place is gone now. single bed size and foam not mat. thanks!

  3. I walked by this pump truck the other day. Just up the moat about 100 yards in the water was a bloated dead animal of some sort stinking to high heaven. Was the size of a pig but probably a bloated dog. Still there 3 days later....

I guess not there job to remove it...

This was by Chiang Mai gate.

On another note quite a commotion at the mote across from Loi Kroh last night. Was told a human body discovered in the moat - any confirmation heard??

  4. So he knew someone was injured but kept going because he had to get his customers back.????

“Mr Yothin claimed that he did not see the victim snorkelling,” said Phuket Marine Police Chief Panya Chaichana. “He saw a man waving and a dinghy to come pick someone up, but said he had no idea that Ms Thiebau had been killed. The only thing he knew was that someone was injured. However, he needed to take his clients back to Ao Por. So, he reported the accident to the speedboat owner on the way back.”

  5. The amount of oil alreeady arrived on the beach and the forecast for more to come suggests a very large vessel and more than just the reisidual bunker fuel that finds its way to the bildge over time.

Where are the Merchant Mariners on this forum?

Wouldn't this likely indicate a boat that has discharged a large quantity of bunker fuel to either perform a repair, or a spill during refueling or even a tank rupture ?

We used to have Oily bilge water tanks don the big ships that we pumped the bilge water too when in port. At sea we pumped that overboard via an OWS (Oily Water Separater) American ships are very strict on this.

So - maybe they had a bilge tank that got full and they just pumped it over for whatever reason..

Or an oil leak into the bilge and just pumped it out .

Could have been bunkering and ruptured a hose.

This tar-like oil is looks like Bunker C used on steamships.

Although I suspect any oil would coagulate like that.

Vessels are supposed to keep records of all their bilge and oil pumping operations and changes in tank levels.

When I lived in Koh Phangan we would periodically get very small amounts on the beach and yes - it doesn't wash off your feet so easily. Lots of taxi boats there with dirty bilges...

Its very expensive to pump oily bilge water ashore.

  7. Secondly, the police are not allowed to fire their guns at suspects except in self-defence, and, even then, there are firm guidelines for any given situation.

The writer assumes the gun shot was police. Could easily have been a rioter. Rioters are rioters and some make carry guns and wish to provoke more violence and shot their guns.

Rioters in support of criminals show the level of the community. Phuket is a cesspool of crime a ghetto of drug dealers gangs and mafia.

Doesn't it read that the riot was caused by the shooting? So the rioters were not present when the boys were shot. They came after the shooting.

You are pretty confused here sir. The drug dealers werenot shot. Learn to read please. a shot was fired well people were rioting.and the writer of the article assumed it was the police.

"A gunshot - or something sounding like one - was heard..."

  8. If someone "dumped" a bear on my front steps I would use some common sense and find out what the bear needed and who might be in a better position to provide that.

Pray tell, which organisations in Thailand are both in a better position to provide care and willing to take on dumped animals?

Perhaps you'd be good enough to post the names of these organisations and contact details here so that anyone facing the problem of a dumped bear in future can avail themselves thereof.

Maybe the Organization that tried to save the bear's life for a start.

  9. Danny Russel breached diplomatic protocols when he made the speech saying Yingluck's impeachment appears to have been politically motivated. He needs to be recalled and removed from his post for making that statement. Ms. Pornpimol is way off base if she thinks the US shouldn't disapprove of an undemocratic government. Her editorial is a farce.

Well he quite simply did not say that, and if you could read and comprehend plain English you would understand that. He said, to some people given the way everything transpired it COULD APPEAR like it was politically motivated. Not that it was.

You go on about his qualifications, but given your lack of comprehension ability of simple written English, i would say you should be more concerned with issues closer to home before commenting on others abilities.

Yes! "..it could appear" ! NO blaming there.

Maybe the PM should open his mind and see how the international community "might" think that.

He might even reply with "I can see how you might think that, but..." And tell his side of the story.

He would of acknowledged Russel's "concerns" and kept the conversation going.

Instead he says "you hurt our feelings" (poor us) and goes into his own blame game....

And, maybe Russel could have shown a little more of a desire to "understand" the PM's point of view and acknowledge that.

    Both agreeing to disagree.
