  1. I tried to extent my 90 days to another 60 days today at CW and was unsuccessful as I did not have all the correct paperwork, I did have a copy of my Kor Ror 2 which they ask for. Here is a list of what they are asking for:

    Passport Original

    Photo copy of passport

Photo copy of my multiple entry O visa

photo copy of my TM6 and arrival stamp

If you rent or lease a copy of the lease agreement and the original

Copy of Wifes Tabien Bann book

    Copy of wifes ID card

    Marriage Certificate original and copy

Since I did not have a copy of the TM30 they gave a piece of paper that I need.

    Application form TM30

Copy  ID Card or Passport of House Master Owner

copy of house registration of House master owner

So my landlord is going to do the TM 30 registration on line this afternoon so I believe that once that is done I do not need the last three mentioned above. So I will go back tomorrow and give it another try.

If your application was accepted you have really have nothing to worry about. I don't recall any report of them dening one after it was accepted and the fee paid.

ubobjoe, you do know you have to leave the country every 90 days when doing the marriage visa from Savannakhet right? I have been doing one there for the last 4 years and that is what I was told, so no 90 day check in with this visa.

What are the"my" USA tax filing  requirements after I marry a Thai even though she doesn't have a SS#.

Actually if you have a Thai wife that does not have a SSN, you can file a form W-7 when you file your tax return and file married file jointly, they will issue her what is called an ITIN number  Individual Taxpayer Identification Number, once you have this number issued every time you file joint return you use this number for her. When you fill out the  form W-7 check the box E Spouse of US citizen/resident alien, then supply all the additional information on the form they are asking for.

Can't remember if any other information is needed as it has been several years since I got her the ITIN number, so you may want to consult with a Tax man, but I have been filling jointly for several years now with no issues.

Not true.  This was a very strange thing for an administration to do.  As detailed here.  Get your facts straight.

I see you get your sources from ABC which is a branch of the propaganda media for the left almost like believing what comes from Fox no real facts from this source!

  5. To all you American basher and haters out there, you understand this was not a press conference don't you, it was what you call a poll conference where just a select few of media sources are invited and they then in return share it with the other news sources. Every president for the last 50 years has done the same type of event, this is just another perfect example of how the media takes a story and twists it for there own agenda.

  6. You cannot renew a visa within Thailand. If you want another one year multiple entry O visa based on marriage you must travel to obtain it.

You can, however, apply for an 'extension of stay' based on marriage if you can meet the requirements (400,000 Bht in a Thai bank or a certified income of 40,000 Bht/month) . The extension is valid for a year and is renewable, no travel outside Thailand is needed but 90 day reports have to be made to immigration.

OK thank you for all the replies it appears I need to continue to do it outside as I also need to continue coming in and out of Thailand.

  7. @ ballbearing,

Couldn't point you out to a good place to stay...

This time i stayed in "China Hotel" at 500 Thb per night

    Won't stay there again ;-)

But there are plenty and easy to find...

I came evening before, so i was not picky to find one...

Next time i'll go with my own bike, so more freedom and time to find suitable...

I just returned fro doing my 1 year multiple visa based on marriage, stayed at the Savan Vegas Casino Hotel, not bad for $50.00 per night and that also includes them shuttling you back and fourth across the Thai Lao bridge. I drove my truck from Nom Bua Lamphu to Makdahan about a 4 1/2 hour drive through very beautiful country side but on some of most deadly 2 lane roads I have driven on, everything from cows to semi's and everything else in-between, so not sure If I will drive again.

Savan Vegas has a office on the Thai side parking lot, parked my truck there for 250Bahht per night then their van shuttles you straight across to the hotel, on the return they even met us at the embassy the day we picked up my passport and shuttles use back over to the Thai side, much more convenient than using the tuk tuks or bus!

Casino is not much so did very little gambling and the food is not bad but I have found there is nothing much nicer on the Lao side than this place. Also if you stay there make sure you request a room facing outside not inside looking at the casino or you will be listening to load music until about midnight.

  8. For a multiple entry non-o you have to pay 5000 THB, and you have to stay 1 night in Savannakhet.

Yep, just done it. You must have your ORIGINAL marriage certificates and copy of them.

    Also copy of......

Wifey house book, ID card, your PP photo page, nice smile........smile.png

You must get there before 11am, collect next day at 2pm...

just like to add you can park your car inside the gates it is free, your car will be locked inside between 10 pm and 6 am, which is no problem as you will not be back to your car before 2 30 pm at the earliest.

Yes but if you are driving your car into Laos you to obtain a visa for your car before crossing at the bridge.

  9. So he hasn't executed anyone, because he forgives them, as they are all Thai?

    This is very confusing..

Not confusing at all just condescending!

Ah the look on his face when he was asked the question he must have been thinking if these poor Thai people would just continue to bow down to use Elite Chinese Thai we would not have any problems but I forgive them!

  10. If your wife has been out of the country a year and never used her free personal goods import status. If coming to laem chabang she should be able to clear it herself. I know of a few who have done it but it takes the better part of the day..

My container will be going to Tak so laem chabang seems a much longer distance , I was thinking about Bangkok, has anyone here had any experience with personally clearing their containers in Bangkok.

At the time I shipped I had a Thai wife in USA who had been there for a year so I put everything in her name and was not charged any duties. I shipped 4 very large pallets and it cost me around 3K and I used a freight forwarder who handled everything through Bangkok port then delivered to my doorstep.

  11. A few suggestions:

    - As others have mentioned, maintain your US bank account(s). Set up your accounts for "paperless delivery".

    - Maintain your US credit card(s).

    - If possible, use a family member's address as your mailing address. They can open and screen any mail you get, and determine what's important and what's not.

    - Get a MagicJack with a US phone number corresponding to the address you use for your US bank accounts and credit cards. Only about $3/month, and you make/receive calls with friends and family in the US for free. Use this number for you bank and/or brokerage accounts. Note that MagicJack does not currently support SMS - only voice (see below).

    - Check the security procedures your US bank(s) use to allow transfers to be made from your account. Do they require you to receive an SMS message (on a cell phone with a US number) with a security code? Can the security code be sent via email? Do they require a code-generating device? I have a big problem with BofA, since their only options are an unreliable flimsy code generating device, or a security code sent to a US cell phone. E*Trade, on the other hand, sends the security code to your email address.

    - In Thailand, open an account at Bangkok Bank, and use their ACH routing number and your Thai account number to transfer money from the US. This is the only Thai bank that participates in the US ACH system for electronic transfers. Its exactly like transferring funds from one US bank to another US bank.

    - In the event that you will need to send wire transfers (SWIFT) to Thailand, make sure you understand your bank's procedures for initiating them online or over the phone. For example, E*Trade allows online initiation, but will not allow you to send a wire to an account that is not owned by you.

    - If you would like to use a Roku streaming device for watching US TV, buy it and set it up before leaving the US. The setup is very difficult when done outside of the US, and you must have the US version of the box to connect to US services. You will also need to use either VPN or a DNS rerouting service (like TrickByte) in order to use Netflix on the Roku.

    - If you're bringing any electrical equipment from the US that does not have a switching power supply (e.g. runs on both 110 and 220V), then make sure you buy a few strep-down transformers and load them into your container. These are relatively inexpensive, but fairly heavy (making shipping prohibitive), and not easily obtained in Thailand. While most newer electronics (TVs, computers, etc) have switching power supplies, things like stereo equipment typically don't. Check the voltage requirements of anything you plan to bring. You can easily buy stepdown transformers online in the US.

    - As others have mentioned, once your container arrives in Laem Chabang, arrange for customs clearing and local delivery yourself. We had an excellent agent in the US handle the paperwork and shipment to Laem Chabang at a very reasonable cost with great service. We opted to use his "partner" in Bangkok to handle customs and delivery to Phuket, and we ended up paying way too much.

Good luck, and please post your experience (and costs) here on TVF after your move is complete, as I'm sure other members will find the information very useful.

Very good info but most TV's work off a different signal and will not work over here unless you go buy a signal converter box. At least that's how it was 6 years ago when I shipped mine over and it was only about 2 years old high end Sony, so not sure if the new TV's can switched to the Thai or European cable input signal. Worked OK but I have since purchased a new TV here in Thailand, so if you need a box let me know when you get here they are very hard to find. In hindsight I would have never spent the time and money to ship all my electrical equipment over, should have sold it and just purchased new over here, the 110 to 220 converter I bought for my high end stereo equipment was massive and expensive.

Strange this post didn't mention that there hunderds of uni students infront of the police station chanting let them go or we will bring more here to protest, why was that left out? then it say's a gathering of 5 people or more is not alowed, well ok so there were four students in this group not 5, so that can't be why they were detianed, more likly it is some here don't like thier message.

The targeting of uni students is not a good look for any country, and this one's history of putting down dissent of uni students is a bloody one.

I wounder isn't it a good thing that students question and voice opinions, isn't critical thinking a good thing? isn't divercity of theorys and thought a good thing?

Or is it better to have docile drones with no mind of thier own?

many people may say that marcial law is not about peace but about controling those you wish to repress.

The last general that ordered shoot the sh!!t out of the students, put up for BKK Governor in the nineties and was disappointed that everyone told him to go take a walk, he thought everyone would have forgiven him for shooting the students, that's the mentality you are dealing with.

I was about to say, history repeats it self in Thailand like no country I have ever seen. 1976 and 1992 maybe if there's more protests and a bloody crackdown this year one of the lower generals in charge will get the PM job ala Samak.

    Saviors of Thailand my behind.

Actually the General that led the 1992 slaughter was rewarded a top level CEO position for True.

  13. My current visa expires on June 22, so if I return on June 20 and then exit June 22 to Laos to get another 1 year visa is the timing OK for this?

    OR

Which other country is good for a one year multiple O visa based on marriage as I travel to many countries, 400K in the bank is no problem?

If June 20th is the enter before date on your visa you would get a new 90 day entry. You could leave at anytime during those 90 days to apply for your visa.

If you wanted to delay getting the visa during those last 90 days you could get a re-entry permit it you wanted to travel. A single re-entry permit costs 1000 baht.

Thanks Joe, I know Savannakhet is the easiest place to get the visa but I travel to many countries for business, so was wondering which other country is as friendly as them? So I could do a new one year visa and combine it with a business trip. Could a US citizen get one at the Brisbane office, or I could travel to Singapore, Jakarta, or just about any place in Asia, not much business in Savannakhet.

  14. Joe last year I did a one year multiple O visa based on marriage Savannakhet, so my options when it expires is to do the same at Savannaket again or do an extension here locally in Bangkok correct? For how long is the extension good for as I would want another year visa?

An extension of stay is for one year.

You don't have to wait for your visa to expire. You can do the extension during the last 30 days of any of your 90 day entries from the visa.

Would I still be able to come in and out of the country every other week as I currently do?

Can the proof of income be from a foreign currency? Where in BKK can one do this?

You could get a multiple re-entry permit after getting the extension and then leave and re-enter the country as many times as you want.

You would do at Chaeng Wattana immigration in Bangkok,

You would need to get a income letter for the 40k baht income from your embassy to prove foreign earned income.

But I think the best option for you is the multiple entry non-o visa. Your coming and going every 2 weeks would make it difficult to get the extension of stay because of the timing for when you can apply for the extension. Plus you will have a under consideration stamp with a report back date 30 days from when you apply to get the extension stamp.

Thanks again Ubonjoe for your great information!
