    Never heard of this body.

Only “The Times” Uni Rankings recognized as world class.

“ Performing Arts” is NOT a university discipline.

“ Development Studies” ? Here? A Joke……Outside Medicine, Export, Flight, I see no international standards anywhere. No proper training or workmanship, no Quality or Safety culture, no personal responsibility, no change is possible here from within, it all comes only from outside.

    4.5. Judicial Decisions

Thailand is not a common law jurisdiction and judicial precedent is not binding on lower courts. The Supreme Court of Justice is not bound to follow its own decisions, and lower courts are not bound to follow precedents set by higher courts. In practice, however, the decisions of the Supreme Court of Justice do have a significant influence on the Supreme Court of Justice itself and lower courts. Supreme Court decisions are printed on a regular basis and distributed to law libraries and private subscribers

If # of deaths is the metric...

One wonders why we don't shut down the planet for that ?

"...shut down the planet..." is a hyperbolic statement designed to solicit emotional reactions. No one is suggesting shutting down the planet. Two point seven million deaths is not, as perviously suggested, "hardly any deaths". Air pollution is a serious problem and also kills millions of people, but it is not contagious. COVID-19 is contagious. Both are serious problems that require action.

This is unfortunately worded. There was a report a few months ago (it's on TV also, got to search for it) that actually said that EACH of the 567 staff allegedly clocked up 1,500 hour OT per year and EACH of them was allegedly paid Bt6 million OT compensation for that. Puts everything in a quite different perspective, huh?

This paints a very different picture, indeed.

  5. Is it in Her Area.?

If you do happen to part ways --at a latter date....would you want to live there?

As you can not have it in your name you should look for some protection, maybe consider a 30 lease with subletting clause.
Also both make Wills... If anything should happen to the lady-then Thai laws deem that the property be divided amongst her family.

If a couple (Thai wife / foreign husband) has a biological child (son), does the Thai property go to the child upon death of parents?

  6. This is a topic that I have had great interest in. About a year ago I read the book Wheat Belly by Dr. Bill Davis. That led me to other readings, and podcasts. I believe I know more about nutrition and healthy eating now that I ever have. I wish I’d had this information 40 years ago. Eating a low carb diet with lots of healthy fats is the way to go for optimal health. I have cut wheat completely out of my diet and cut way back on carbs and sugars. I’ve since lost my belly fat, got rid of many aches and pains, practically cured my chronic sinusitis, improved my sleep, restored my energy and improved my mood. I eat lots of animal fats -- full fat raw milk, cheese, homemade yogurt (easy to make), eggs, fatty pork and beef, and chicken. I try and get these products organic when I can.

Just last night I listened to a fascinating talk by Dr Barry Groves who devoted his life to the research of nutrition. He makes a very convincing case for why we should eat fat. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/undergroundwellness/2013/07/19/eating-the-fat-with-dr-barry-groves-1936-2013.mp3

I suspect that many member of Thaivisa are of the age where cholesterol is a concern. If you are one, I recommend you consider reading a book called Cholesterol Clarity by Jimmy Moore and Dr. Eric Westman. It is a real eye opener into the multi-billion dollar statin drug industry and has information on recent research that is likely change how the medical profession will look at cholesterol.

  7. I am a 56 year-old male kindergarten teacher. I have been teaching for 23 years -- everything from grade 4 to first year university and adult education, but until this year, never kindergarten (early years). I always tipped my hat to early years teachers because I never thought I would be able to cope with kids that young. What a surprise I am getting. I love it! Five-year-olds are amazing little creatures. Their minds are open for learning and they want to know about the world. They have very short attention spans and, as another responder said, your have to be able to move from one activity to another: to sing to dance to laugh to be a kid again. They love to play and play is how they learn. I never thought that very young kids could be such interesting creatures. They tell it as it is and are open to learning. I love my morning coffee and shortly after having a cup, one of my students casually told me that my breath "stinks". Would adults be so honest? You have to slow things down considerably when you teach and be sure to model everything you want them to do, slowly and carefully. Model it thoroughly. Don't be discouraged if they don't get it the first or second time. Be persistent and patient and they will surprise you. Don't be afraid to say no, or to tell them that they are not doing their best. They will respect you for it. At the same time make sure you know what each child's best is. It is not the same for everyone. Most important, have fun with them, play with them laugh with them and have high (but realistic) expectations of them. My kindergarteners are reminding me what life and learning and fun is all about. I am so glad that I took the risk to teach kindergarten.

  8. Further to tftest's question above, what is the big deal about pvc? I have always used aluminium and been very happy with the results. I've also found that when thick, tinted glass is used, there is very little flex and even the cops, when demonstrating a break in for our local neighbourhood watch group and using my house for the demo, could not enter through the window (without even using deadlocks or multilocks to secure the window).

How durable is pvc to sunlight?

    A breif explination of pvc

Pvc / Vinyl window systems are available now all over Thailand .

The actaul pvc is only part of the overall finished product. All fabricators will import this from various extrusion companies ( the "brand" name you may associate pvc with , i.e Veka , Thyssen , Kommerling etc.).

The quality of these extrusions varies dramatically from company and profile . The main agent for giving Pvc its colour is Titanium dioxide and its the content of this within the profile wich will dictate if the pvc will discolour in time or not. When new they will all look exactly the same but i assure you there actual make up is not. This alone will dictate if the product will discolour in time or not. You should check the small print on the suppliers warranty some exclude the colour or give it a limited warranty others give a full 10 year warranty on colour.

It is interesting to note that people refer to the windows either by brand name or by individual fabricator and state their pros and cons to both. When infact the same fabricator may well be supplying two or even three different brand name profiles in the market place.

You really should remeber that when choosing a window supplier the pvc as stated above is only a Component of the finished system . Other questions should be asked also , Is the profile re-inforced ( is it galvanised steel ? what is the thickness of this ) ( a simple test to see if re-inforcemnt is being used is to run a magnet over the profile ) what hardware is used ( is it european , chinese ? , you Will find alot of suppliers offering "German" pvc windows and use chinese hardware and fittings to reduce costs).

This also extends to the locking systems used , are they full multi -point , simple finger locks , self cliping , brass , steel , stainless ?

As with all window systems as I stated before unless it is installed correctly you will reduce its benefits drastically. If you have made you decision as to wich supplier to use I highly recommend you visit previous installations and not just the ones they take you too but others they don't tell you about afterall if there taking you to see an existing customer they wouldn't take you to an unhappy one would they ?

General pricing for pvc per square meter is actually quite difficult as it depends on design , size , glass spec , hardware etc . etc. some companies will give an indication but would generally base this on a "typical design and size" and probably wont be what your after. That said an indication for a "standard" home replacement in single glass will range from around 2,500Thb to 5,000Thb per square meter depending on the quality your after and the options used.

    A few advantages of pvc

Pvc during fabrication uses a friction weld on its corners rather than in aluminium where a "mechanical" joint is used so is much less exposed to water leakage

Sea salt air has no affect on Pvc as Aluminium will oxidise / corrode if scratched or exposed

The use of double / triple glazing is a standard option for pvc

It is the "greenest" option for windows for the envoiroment and is 100 % recyclable

Pvc is a very poor conductor of heat , the transmission of heat to the interior is considerably less than aluminium

It can be used for virtually any window design including arch and circular designs

The lifetime of a pvc window based on data from Euope is 40 years

Termites and such creatures do not attack pvc as they will in wooden subframes sometimes used by aluminium window systems

The use of Galvanised steel for structual strength

Full Multipoint lock options give higher spec security over standard aluminium frames

Hope the above makes things a little clearer smile.gif Any more questions i'll try to answer with an unbiased reply biggrin.gif

Thanks for that great information, N47HAN. I'm about arrange for PVC windows for a house I'm building in Sakon Nakhon. This post is a few years old. Any new info that I should be aware of?
