  1. "The Ombudsman demanded to know why the Foreign Ministry had wrongly issued a passport for Thaksin, who is a fugitive and is trying to escape criminal charges, but the ministry refused to respond, prompting the Office of the Ombudsman to file a complaint with the prime minister.

Rakkecha Chaechai, spokesman for the Ombudsman's Office, said Phongthep had written to the office asking for more time. He said the letter arrived after the deadline the government was given.

In the letter, Phongthep reasoned that the Ombudsman had suggested that regulations on passport issuance should be amended, hence he needed time to set up a committee to do the job."

The OP seems to contain some errors.

The MoFA did respond to the Ombudsman. From 2012-11-13

"Foreign Ministry spokesman Manasvi Srisodapol said the note was sent to the Ombudsman's Office, but he declined to reveal details in the response. Yesterday was the end of a 30-day extension sought by the ministry for it to respond to the Ombudsman's call for the passport controversially issued to Thaksin to be revoked."

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/597668-thai-foreign-ministry-responds-to-ombudsman-over-passport-for-thaksin/

On 2013-02-12 we had the Ombudsman submit a letter to the PM asking her to instruct the Foreign Ministry to heed its recommendation. Ombudsman Sriracha Charoenpanich signed letter dated Feb 12, to the prime minister, seeking her reply within 30 days.

Following some more delay (PM very busy you know) and on 2013-04-13

"Also yesterday, Ombudsman Sriracha Charoenphanit said Ying-luck and the government had until the end of this month to explain why Thaksin's passport had not been revoked. Sriracha said the ombudsmen regarded Thaksin a fugitive, so his passport should be cancelled. The ombudsmen are waiting for an explanation from the government."

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/632720-pheu-thai-party-to-announce-stand-on-amnesty-law/?hl=+yingluck++ombudsman++passport

On the 23rd of May we had "the Ombudsman office has yet to hear back from the Prime Minister after the 30 day extension granted in March lapsed in April. The Ombudsman Office is meeting May 28 to determine its next course of action."

Now we have the (late) excuse that the Ombudsman request to revoke a passport 'seemed' to suggest that regulations on passport issuance should be amended, fully ignored that the Ombudsman wanted the passport issued illegally immediately revoked.

BTW one may be excuses to wonder how come foreigners know about the timetable and letters better than some of the government people who don't seem to like to be involved in this hot potato?

Thank you for the timeline perspective.

Phongthep knows the timeline and the letters.

    He simply is lying.

It's what criminals do when confronted with the truth.

  2. Reminds me of another famous comedian Yoswaris, who hit the crowds funny bone when he gave the addresses of judges families on stage,.

Indeed, the red shirt leader/current government employee belongs back in jail for not being able to tell the difference between free speech and inciting violence/communicating threats.

The OP comedian is a much different situation by simply voicing his opinion, the same as those that voiced their opinion in opposition to his.

  3. Ooooooh...I see!

A cartoonist is executing his right of free speech (against the PM), he is cut down and people are outraged...and rightfully so!

A comedian is executing his right of free speech (somehow pro- Thaksin)...and the same outraged people call him a red shirt prostitute...a terd...should stick to his comedy and basically shut up.

In other words: the democracy- friendly TV- crowd, that has no problems with coups, if it only fits their political agenda!

    Grrrrrrrreat!

    (Noooooooooo, I am not a red-shirt supporter...or xxxxx...so save your breath!)

Edited by metisdead, Today, 11:35 .

    Inappropriate language removed.

It seems like they are just executing the same right of free speech you ascribe is due the comedian... but, evidently, not to them.

And they are at least managing to do so without having "inappropriate language removed" from their posts.

  4. Probably better than the care she'd get in a Thai loony bin.......

I have seen Thai institutions - unless they have changed A LOT, you aren't far wrong.

And as posted earlier, even those places are collectively short over a million beds for the mentally ill in Thailand.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/644709-father-locks-mentally-ill-daughter-on-manmade-island-for-20-years-in-chumphon/page-2#entry6481094

The father did what he could do when faced with no assistance. His daughter needed medication and treatment. She had neither and he could not provide either. What he could do is feed her and isolate her for her own protection. Beyond that, it's literally impossible to go much further given the ravages of her untreated psychosis controlled the situation.

Again, welcome to the several posters that are unaware of what 3rd world health care entails.

  5. UPDATE:

Not long after she had split with her husband, she had developed a mental illness which made go mad on hot days.

Good grief, what kind of newspaper would print such 19th century rubbish? dry.png

Mr. Cheab once tried to treat her at a local hospital, but the expenses were too high for him, making him unable to treat her daughter. He didn’t know what to do

Gee, why isn't the vaunted 30-baht health scheme helping these poor people? unsure.png

  6. Varathep Rattanakorn, PM’s Office Minister and vice chairman of the House scrutiny committee, said Mr Abhisit’s proposal (on detailed investment plans) was unnecessary

He gave assurances that the government will carefully spend the money

As a convicted scammer AND fraudster, Varathep knows a thing or two about "carefully spending" money that is not his.

Varathep was convicted by the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Office Holders in 2009 and sentenced to two years' imprisonment, but the punishment was suspended. He was charged with misconduct over the government lottery when he was a deputy finance minister in Thaksin's Cabinet.

    http://www.nationmultimedia.com/politics/Varatheps-appointment-sets-off-legal-wrangling-30193454.html

The constitutional court on Wednesday banned the political party of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra after finding it guilty of election fraud. The court barred Thaksin and 110 other executives of the party [including Varathep] from participating in politics for five years

  7. Before we go blaming the Father, we need to know all the facts. He is obviously a man of little means. The fact that he didn't just abandon her, shows he cared even if (maybe) he could have done things in a better. I say maybe, because it seems that he as well as the village head looked for other options, but the authorities didn't seem to care (a common theme with authorities I'm sure you'll agree).

The numbers tell the reason the family might have had difficulty finding her a proper facility. It explains why the father might have considered his actions to be the best he could do, given his and his daughter's situation.

Thailand Mental Health Stats for 2010

Total Psychiatric beds of hospitals and institutes authorized by DMH = 8,704

Welcome to the 3rd world, everyone. Far worse than what happened to this woman occurs to the mentally ill in Thailand everyday.

  8. <deleted> since when did the police have authority over ambos in a life and death situation? I have attended numerous serious incidents and accidents and we definitely can not give orders to ambo's. An ambulance attending a life threatening situation can park anywhere it bloody well likes as human life takes priority over everything. Who cares if traffic is held up if it saves a life. What the BIB should have been was diverting traffic down another route ( if possible) even if it is 1km back down the road.

I would hate to be in this coppers shoes if it was in Australia as he would be in a pile of poop and facing internal disciplinary action and lets not forget a coronial inquiry where he could be found to have contributed to the death and the civil action that may come after. If it was an Aussie ambo the copper would have been told to pull his head in and to F off.

    It is not Australia.

It's really not Australia. Police are number one.

The cop commands you to move, you move. Or face the repercussions from the unstable issuer of the command.

The video of the incident shows the cop commanding the ambulance crew to move out and the ambulance crew abruptly skedaddles, leaving the victim on the roadside with just one attendant.

(note= Viewer caution, there's a quick bit of mildly graphic footage of the victim at the very beginning)

Now your going to tell us the laws of our country? Why do you even bother posting if you know nothing about the laws of either country.

At best your just making assumptions, where old mate has obviously worked in the field.

So pack up your toys and pick up a book.

    huh.png

What are you on about? I said nothing about the laws of any country?

I related what happened in the video and how the Thai police interact with the public in general.

    Go have a rest.

  11. These ultra-Royalists don't seem to be aware that Guy Fawkes planned to commit regicide.

    Dumb.

Sent from my GT-I9100T using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Dumb is not knowing the modern origin and the meaning to thousands around the world in a multitude of causes.

Thai Protesters Latest to Don 'Guy Fawkes' Masks

    Origin of the mask

The stylized Guy Fawkes mask was designed by comic book artist David Lloyd for the story V for Vendetta before it became a film. It was about a lone hero who takes up the image of Fawkes to fight against a fictional, fascist British government of the future. The mask was first used in protest by Anonymous, a group of activist computer hackers, in 2008 against the Church of Scientology.

They have since been worn by demonstrators in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and the United States. In the United States, the mask became a symbol of the Occupy Wall Street protest. It also featured during the so-called Arab Spring democracy uprisings.
