  1. I once returned a pair of brand new shoes to an upscale shop in Emporium. They were a gift from my gf, but a size too small. So with the receipt and the shoes, I returned to the shop for a refund. HA! in spite of the fact that the receipt clearly stated in English and Thai that the item could be returned for a refund and exchange within 7 days, the shop refused to comply and refund me! I was stunned.

Those idiots actually told me to contact the shoe manufacturer and ask them for a refund. OF course the fact that the receipt had THEIR shop name and address, just didn't register in their little Thai brains. Finally I said what the hell, I just cut loose on their sorry asses, mainly to amuse myself, because no refund was gonna happen.

After a prolonged period of destroying as many faces as possible from the Manager on down, with a sizable audience, I left. Amazing Thailand. I told , (now ex gf) to NEVER buy me anything again, unless it was from a western vendor, dealer, company etc.

  2. I'm not a British expat, but I did leave Hawaii (17+years there) to be an expat here. Hawaii has it's pros and cons as well, anyplace does.

But after several years here ( I didn't come for cheap sex) being gainfully and legally employed, the novelty of Thailand has worn off. I wont be going back to Hawaii ( highest cost of living in the USA) but I have chosen another country that is NOT in Asia.

One person's paradise is another person's hell. Just a matter of perspective and what you are willing to give up and take.

  3. If I had known what I now know about Thailand after 7 years here, I would NOT have relocated here. Im thankful for the many varied interesting experiences here, good and bad. However I prefer a more higher quality of life, saner, less corrupt and hypocitical society.

Nevertheless, I have encountered some wonderfully friendly and open people, staff, students, colleagues etc. But they are the exception, not the rule.

So I will be leaving at the end of the year with no regrets. Ariverderci!

  4. Agreed. In Thailand, we foreigners are expected to respect things that are sensitive to Thais....such as the Monarchy, Temples, dress codes and behavior. When it comes to marriage, we dump tons of money on the family of the bride for the honor. In return we should expect similar courtesies/respect for issues that are sensitive to us. Hitler was a dog, no doubt about that. Nothing was ever funny or fashionable about his sadistic methods. As for Che, although an enemy to capitalism, he had a certain aura to him that might seem fashionable to some people (not to me!) But please stop with the Hitler/Nazi Fad.

Could not have said it better. I'm sick of pretending to respect this 'culture' what is Thai culture? an emulation of other cultures, (white skin lotion, Japanese+Korean pop crapture, material consumption, etc etc) since MOST Thais are incapable of any original thoughts, perceptions or innovations.

  5. Maybe this Monk's real gig ( job not fb) is exporting and marketing 'Thai-ness' to the world.

I hope he remembers to include the scams-corruption-xenophobia, racial discrimination, Police-Mafia cabal, etc etc etc Im sure some new age hippie dippies in California would be gullible enough to donate a few more dollars for 'his' cause. Me , Myself and Mine

  6. Ban the f----g vendors! the whole inconsiderate greedy lot of them! They and their greedy masters make the footpaths impossible to navigate, being forced to walk on Sukhumvit or wherever, it's an eyesore not to mention hazardous and an easy target for anyone wishing to cause massive bodily harm.

Remember the Iranian bomber on Ramkamheang Road last year?

When the insurgency from down south makes it to Bkk, they'll know where to go

  7. I dont give a rats a---s about any of the color coded PhueaDemoThai pond scum. They are only concerned with stuffing their pockets and pushing this country back to the 19th century.

And if their pockets are already stuffed, then they'll enact whatever draconian laws are necessary to keep the populace exactly where they want them, uneducated, misinformed, full of superstitous nonsense, and socially blind to their self created delusions.

it's the education system. I don't think these people actually admire Hitler but it's possible the school history syllabus didn't cover what he did and the millions he murdered.
At least the chicken is pretty good...

I think the point is they don't care what he did. (In reality neither do I, and neither did Prince Harry of the UK, and the uniforms look pretty snappy)

I'm sorry, but are you really saying you don't care what hitler did?

From one American to another , if the genocide, rapes, tortures, heinous medical experiments, gassing and other horrors had happened to you and your kin , would you still NOT care? people who forget the past, are bound to repeat history.
