My first time driving during songkran I understand the fears and frustrations but killing a drunk happy new year reveller? That's like going around during NYE and not moving out of the way for drunk people hailing cabs that don't exist, cuz they were in your lane!
I do what everyone should do, stay of the road if you're not comfortable driving and slow the <deleted> down if you're driving during Songkran

I think it was a misunderstanding. Private lessons, I did not pay in advance because I didn't know how many lessons I would be doing. When I did pay, they slapped me with 500/hour not per lesson (2 hours).
-
I just found out that I am paying 500 BAHT PER HOUR at the EFL learning centre. That price is ludicrous I am flat broke after 5 lessons (2500 baht holy shit) I do not recommend going to this school unless money is no object. the teachers are very good, but it's insanely expensive. That's more than most teachers make in CANADA I am shocked that would be their price in Chiang Mai.
I am leaving in 2 weeks and this school sucked all my money so I won't likely start any new lessons, but maybe next time I will check out this school in Pantip thank you for the suggestion!

I'm looking to improve my reading and writing/grammar, I'm paying 500 baht per 2 hour private lesson now and it seems high, does anyone know if I could get 1-1 lessons cheaper here in Chiang Mai?

Well I'm sad to see 99% men here for cheap everything and young women, and no WOMEN posting.
So, this is why I, as a young foreign woman, like Thailand. (No, I didn't come here for the men. Foreign or Thai.)
I love that I can eat for 1$. I love love love SPICY THAI FOOD. I adore it, in fact.
I HATE Canadian winters, so the climate of course! I like that I can walk around my house naked or in my underwear without cranking the heater.
I love riding scooters everywhere. Including on the hiway. (I have a scooter back home, but can only really use it 3 months a year... and not on the hiways)
I love the friendly people, smiles, "jai yen", "mai ben rai"...
I enjoy the parties. The Wat parties. Monks dancing, people throwing all their money around and getting hammered! It is admittedly fun.
Do I miss some things? Yes. I miss men with big dicks. I miss white guys that aren't here to sleep with young Thai girls (ha ha and no offense...) I do get lonely.
I get annoyed by drunk drivers, being looked at like a walking ATM (being white), mosquitoes, smoke burning my eyes in the hot season, and the lack of recycling I see... But not enough to want to leave.Ilove it enough to call this my winter home 6 months a year!

If anyone cares: the only place in Asia that does a weave is in Singapore. I literally went there just to tighten my weave
-
I've never heard any krap from anyone but a friend of mine uses "kapom" onthe phone a lot ... don't know why? she likes boys...
-
I am looking for a place to have my hair extensions tightened, but I have a weave in. I have only been able to find keratin or metal clip extensions and everywhere I have gone I've been given confused looks.
I haven't had luck with google, either. Wondering if any ladies or TG or anyone at all has had experience or any luck with this style of extension and where to go?
I will be in BKK a while but I'm in Thailand for enough time that I must have something done soon. I would prefer not to have someone cut it out and ruin my hair.

They should pass a law forbidding people from throwing water at moving vehicles with a hefty fine and prison for a second offence.
I thought I was the only one who found this a little risky!
Driving 60 kmph down the hiway on the back of a motorbike and nearly being knocked over from oncoming (ice cold) water that feels like cement in the face, well, I was scared of losing control and crashing. I do not have a clue how people can drive so calmly and not flinch...
I did enjoy taking a water gun and spraying people from afar while driving down the road, but it wasn't going to cause an accident!

Hahahaha nice. Green meat. Yum.

Just wondering if anything goes on for St Paddy's day in CM? Last year I didn't do anything. I've got my green and all that, just want to find something to do! If nothing then I'll have a Chang or two in Mae Taeng ...

I bought an AIS sim activated USB key for internet in Mae Taeng and it's actually not bad. Faster than what the true care had to offer at 21mbps

I've paid 30-40 baht to get from the airport to Chang Puean which is the other side of old city, but I've been asked for 150 baht for airport rides.
Depends on the time of day. One night heading back to my near the airport hotel I had to walk a ways down the hiway to get a ride for a reasonable price... Ah being white in Thailand :-) when I break out the Thai they usually soften up on the prices

So back on topic, I'm curious too, what Thai language school could be helpful, not too expensive and offer the education visa? I have been back and forth the last year and a half and have picked up quite a lot of Thai but would like to improve my reading and writing, and preferably bring my speaking level above that of drunken bar room chat haha.
I am not retired, I'm a young lady who travels on a tight budget. I'm really strongly feeling the need to move back into the city (I live in Mae Taeng without a lot of luxuries but hey you can't beat free)
Anyone have previous schooling success with Thai? Where, cost, and what is the scheduling? I'm leaving again end of the month probably till the fall, but would like the ability to stay longer than a month or two

Flora House in Chiang Mai is dog friendly. They have rooms with kitchenettes and it's a nice place off Huey Geaw road only 10 minutes away from city centre and close to central shopping mall.

I have been diving a few times in Koh Tao, I also completed my PADI rescue diver with Pheonix. I liked the people and the rates, but last time I went to do my DMT their incentive was if I put the deposit for the books down I got free dives. I didn't have a month to complete my DMT so I had intended to just start studying the material and getting dives in, when the manager decided this policy didn't hold anymore because they couldn't guarantee that I'd complete the course. I did understand the logic, but after over a year of diving with the company I had hoped for a little more leeway from them.
I returned my books, left the resort and skipped across the island to try diving elsewhere.
Now I'm back with every intention to get my DMT, but I no longer hold loyalty to Pheonix (I am stubborn, forgive but don't forget) so I'm interested in exploring other options.I had heard that BANS shits out DMT's like cheap dive shops dish out open water certs, and after speaking with a few people heard that I wouldn't have a shot at getting freelance work if I did my course there.
I also don't really want to go somewhere where I'll be overwhelmed with 4000 other divers as I try to increase my experience, learn and grow towards becoming a better diver.
Is there any dive spots in Koh Tao, or any other island for that matter, that still has the range of 30k baht and doesn't hold large classes?
I was thinking about Big Blue because I've heard great things, but they are pretty packed. I don't like crowds.
Also, what's the incentive? A few places offer lifetime free dives, guaranteed work, etc etc... I went diving with a place I can't for the life of me remember who they were but they offered 150 free dives with the DMT or something along the lines. They were VERY nice, quiet, nice boat, used private locations but hotel about 3x my budget and the course was 10k baht more.
I'm open to hearing suggestions and experiences of others!I plan to take my course in February or March this year. err, next year, whatever year it is. You know what I mean.

Hey girls, I live in Mae Taeng, Chiang Mai but am in Bangkok for a bit here and there. I travel alone usually and wouldn't mind some company for any expats. Anyone going out for halloween?
Inbox me for my number.
I'm in BKK this weekend, again Nov 22 and Dec 5-9.
I'm in Chiang Mai/Mae Taeng the rest of the time -
Interesting topic... After having spent the summer in B.C (Canada) with clean mountain air, I noticed (barely) when I came back here after a couple of days, I would wake up in the morning feeling like I had a cigarette hangover.
You know what I'm talking about? Like you smoked too much the night before and awake with your lungs aching?
Anyhow, I've decided smoking cigarettes will help ease the pain. I have to build up a threshold right? Ha ha JK. I am trying to quit, and it hasn't been hard cutting down because my lungs are already sore.
Should I be wearing a mask all the time? Is there any way to get past this?

Those of you who are replying regarding the penis size of the assailant, I have to inform you that Korea weighs in with the worlds smallest penis size averaging 3.7"-3.8" (9.66cm) depending on the study.
Coming in a close second, India (tied with Cambodia and Thailand). I say India first because they have a billion more people than the other countries, therefore statistically should rank smaller.
Ladies, we picked the wrong country. I'm heading to the Congo.PS - almost forgot, here is a nice visual reference to a statistics of penis size study http://www.targetmap.com/viewer.aspx?reportId=3073 it's quite pretty

Bump: Has Champix become available in Thailand yet? I don't want to take any other stop smoking aids (I don't agree with antidepressants for quitting smoking, especially cuz I'm not depressed and I don't want to get doped up) I have had great success with Champix but my prescription is almost up!
Hoping for a YES...

I'm back in Thailand and ready to start eating quail eggs, anyone in CM have some available? (Quail, that is) I would like a few to take home. Let me know!

Thanks everyone. I stopped by Forabee and their prices and selection of products were quite good. They are a bit out of the way, but worth it for the cost savings.
I have tried to find this shop on google (I don't have google earth) with no luck, what street is it on?

awe crap. iPhone auto correct. I much prefer crepes over creeps to be honest. But it does sound like a habitual ex boyfriend scenario... Usually chocolate sauce or Nutella though...Creeps and maple syrup, or maybe it was French toast...
Also do up pasta primavera with loads of Parmesan on a regular basis :-) I laugh when I serve it to my friends they put it on rice. (Macaroni and all ha ha)
I always keep PB on hand and eat it with those pretzel sticks lol...
Creeps and maple syrup sounds interesting, I can think of a couple I'd like to coat in the stuff and then serve up for public consumption.
