  1. What could the PAD, Peoples alliance for DEMOCRACY, possibly have against calling for elections ????? -

    555555

    :-D

Part of democracy is not being forced into having elections and everyone waiting until they are actually due.

I think you are referring to a republic (which is a representative form of government). A Democracy is a form of government where the people vote on every issue.

  2. I'll be heading to the States sometime next year, so I need to part with my Honda Accord.

It's 1999 (2000 model) with only 94,000 KM on it. The car had one previous owner and has been maintained by the local Honda Dealership (I've used only synthetic oil on her changes).

I paid 540,000 for her, but will let her go for only 400,000 or if you qualify, you can take over the payments with 60,000 down (the payments are 10,000 a month).

Also the Insurance has just been paid for the next year.

She's very clean and a great car, both handling and great with fuel as well.

  3. I'm having problems here in Bangbon as well. The pages load and I can see the details about the videos, but as soon as I click on the video I get the message "We're sorry, this video is no longer available." I've written to Yotube (Google security issue) and got an automatic response and will probably have to wait for the weekend to finish before an actial human reads the information I sent (I even sent a screen shot of the page with the message in the video).

If anyone else wants to alert them, send an Email to this address

    [email protected]

I emailed them already. My original message was:

    Sun, 08 Jun 2008 03:16:13 -0700

The filter (Sorry, this video is no longer available) set up for

Thailand now blocks for the past couple months nearly all VDO for users

of ISP TOT in Pattaya, Thailand. Other ISP and TOT elsewhere not

affected. Please tweak asap your server concerning TOT Pattaya.

I first got this automated answer back (the one you got already):

Thank you for contacting YouTube about your video player issue! We receive lots of questions from users like you every day. While, we are continually trying our best to give everyone a personal response we encourage you to review the common questions and answers in this automated email to see if they help your situation.

Followed by a long list of things that can go wrong with streaming YT. Useless in this case.

    Then this personal reply:

    Hi there,

Thanks for your email. We have found that the users with ad-blocking software enabled may not be able to see videos due to a conflict with our flash detection code. Also, try disabling any softwares like "Web Accelerator" which might be causing this issue.

    Regards,

    Rayo

    The YouTube Team

And yesterday I got an automated "Are you satisfied with our answer, etc..." Definitely not! There was also a comment box where I renewed my original complaint about TOT's disastrous use of their "offending" clips blocking filter.

Super to have send them a screen shot. But how did you manage to join it to the YT message?

I sent the file as an attachment

  5. Last year there were 29,548 speeding offences prosecuted. More than 5,000 of these were by women and almost 61,000 were caught on radar checks. The fastest clocked was 272kph.

So 29,545 prosecuted and of those 61,000 were caught on radar checks. Did anyone else notice the mathematical problem with this statement?

  6. Be honest - gold isnt a needed commodity. If it went way tomorrow - would anyone care???? (apart form commodity traders)

You can't be erious. How many electronic parts are plated with gold? Circuit boards, Semi conductors and resistors usually are plated with gold to prevent corosion. Since gold is the most durable metal in existence and nothing can corrode it, it is used to protect other metals that will corrode and in the fillings of your teeth or the rooftops of important buildings (well those who build it think so) and maybe even on your wife's finger (unless you think she'd rather have copper).

  7. Also, could the OP similarly owe no tax if he were to opt for the foreign earned income exclusion instead of the EIC?

I'm not a US tax professional, just interested in the options.

    Cheers, MIsty

If you live outside of the US for over 330 days consecutively in a calender year you are entitled to an $85,000 deduction on the income you are taxed on. Considering that I am a teacher here in Thailand I made vastly less than that amount. In actuality I made so little, I might not even need to claim exemptions on my form as I am making under the poverty level set where no taxes are owed. This is why I was curious too see if I was entitled to a refund from the IRS.

  8. I was looking at information from the IRS about different exemptions and ways of filing and I came across this "The Earned Income Tax Credit". Since I'm married (to a Thai national) and we have two children (one of whom has a social security card) and I'm a teacher (which means I make a small amount every year), I was wondering if anyone knew about this Earned Income Tax Credit and if living overseas precludes you from qualifying

  9. I went to buy a second hand car yesterday and when the owner was doing the figuring I noticed that he had compounded the 5.5% interest every year on the principle.

So, for example on the (remaining after deposit) figure of 400,000 baht 5.5% interest should have been 22,000, but he was giving me a figure of 66.000 Baht for a three year loan. When I mentioned that this was actually a 16.5% interest rate he was a bit confused.

Is this the typical way finance companies give interest rates here? If so, does anyone know of companies that give flat interest rates?

Also what is the VAT, being applied to, the interest or is it to the principle?

  10. I my self think the Tena is a much more interesting car, specially the dash looks great, not so boring as the Camrys and Hondas. Anyway i think the depression of the value is the same. A Tena 4 cylinder (if you want buy a 4 cylinder) cost about 1.2 mil, and you'' get after 3 years about 600.000. so you will lose 600'000.

I've been trying to find a second hand Tena and haven't seen one for under 800,000. If you know of someplace selling one for 600,000 baht, please let me know as I'd like to buy it.

  11. My husband has been here a few months now...apparently just long enough to develop massive Taco Bell cravings. Please don't think we confuse Taco Bell with Mexican cooking. We can get Mexican cooking here. We can't supply him with a Taco Bell fix, though.

Taco Bell is owned by the same corporate conglomerate as Pizza Hut and KFC, two of the most broadly available chains in Thailand. So why can't they open a Taco Bell here anywhere? Believe me, my husband would travel to Bangkok for it.

My wife and I have just opened a Mexican Retaurant/Sandwhich shop out in the Bangbon section of Bangkok (out near the mall bankae).

Here's a copy of the Mexican portion of the menu

    BonitaMenu2.jpg

and a map for those of you not familiar with this area.

  12. Yeah,

I haven't been able to access it since 4:00 yesterday afternoon. I got on the phone this morning with a "service Representative and have talked to three since her. The last one told me she was able to access the site and the problem had to be with my account. However the one's this morning told me they couldn't. Also this one claims nobody has called in with this problem. So if you're having the same problem please call them at (02) 900- 9898 (hit 9 for English 4 for problems and 1 for internet problems)
