  1. Just an interesting fact to share.

One of my friends was on business trip to Guangzhou in November 2019 for about a week or so.

After returning to his home country he fell sick and was hospitalized.  Fortunately he recovered but doctor found a trace of recovering from pneumonia in his lung from CT scan image.

After the pandemic started, he just look back and remember that there were already some unsual things happening in Guanzhou back in November like demolishing and burying some facilities with area being totally off-llimit.

  2. I am guessing but don't most, if not all, the hiso and affluent families send their sprogs to Australia, England or USA to get educated at uni level and the ones in the family that aren't to smart go to local uni and become actors on TV.....yes?

And most of Hi-So siblings are not sharp and they go to unaccredited western colleges you can literally purchase degree. Like purchasing driver's license in Thailand.

  3. I am getting a new job that comes with a company car dedicated for me. The company will buy/lease a car for me and wondering which car I should request. Conditions are below:

    1. Has to be Japanese car (customer related)

    2. 50/50 I drive/driver drive for me

    3. Less than 2.5 mil

    4. Prefer SUV type for better view but not mandatory

    5. Prefer car with power and comfort ride

    Appreciate suggestions.

  4. There are a lot of ECU tunes available for turbo diesel and should not be too difficult to find. As for gasoline engine especially without turbo it is very difficult to find and investment vs. performance gain is much lower than that of diesel.

  5. PM wants Thais living overseas to promote Thainess to the world

BANGKOK, 10 July 2013 (NNT) – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has told Thai students studying overseas to help promote and propagate “Thainess” to the world, while expressing her concerns over the well-being of Thais living abroad.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra met with Thai exchange students from USA and Australia yesterday. During the meeting, Miss Yingluck told the students to be proud of Thai culture, tradition, and the country; she asked them to let others know of all these good things while studying abroad.

She also said she was happy to know that wherever they lived, Thais would always love and help one another out in all circumstances.

She also expressed her concerns over the well-being of Thais living overseas, adding that she has instructed the Interior and Foreign Ministries to look after them and assist them when necessary.

Furthermore, Miss Yingluck assured Thais who live abroad that they would be able to renew their identification cards at all Thai embassies or consulates around the world next year.

Don't worry... They are doing it one way or the other...

  6. As far as I know, Volvos are assembled here in Thailand. So parts and service is mostly acceptable in terms of quality, price and speed. I once had a XC90 from the official Volvo dealer and good service.

VW has an official importer and several official dealers. I once had a GTi and good fast and reliable service.

And I do own now an AUDI S5. Before I had an AUDI A6. I love both cars, top quality, fast and fun to drive. The A6 came from the official importer and the service was slow, lousy and expensive. Fortunately the car never had a major problem. The S5 is a grey import. The service is excellent, expensive and parts take some time to arrive.

PM me for details and names of dealers I experienced.

Volvo sold in Thailand is assembled in Malaysia.

  7. Easy Pass to be installed on motorways

BANGKOK: - The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) is now negotiating with the Department of Highways to introduce the ‘Easy Pass’ system on its motorway system.

EXAT governor Aiyanat Thinaphai stated Monday that negotiation with the Department of Highways for the implementation of the ‘Easy Pass’ toll collecting system has made substantial progress and promises closure in the near future.

He said what remains is the issue of Value Added Tax (VAT). As of the present, tolls collected on EXAT expressways are VAT inclusive whilst tolls collected on the motorway system is not.

As of the present, the EEAT database reveals that there have been more than 700,000 Easy Pass cards issued and on average more than 400,000 users of these cards daily.

Should the negotiations succeed, it is expected that there will be an increase in Easy Pass users of between 50,000 – 60,000 per day in the first year alone, he said,.

  8. Police rescue 31 girls in 'sting' operation

    The Sunday Nation

Thirty-one girls were rescued and four human-traffic suspects arrested in a police sting operation early yesterday that targeted three karaoke bars in Chacherngsao's Ban Pho district.

Thirty of the girls are immigrants and one is Thai.

They were reportedly forced into prostitution at the bars in tambon Don Sai.

Thanachot Jaisiri, Sajee Thienthong, Thawatchai Wianglor and Ratchanee Khemkhot were arrested and items, including condoms, the victims' passports and accounting records of sex services, were seized as evidence.

The police operation followed authorities receiving information from the alleged human-trafficking ring's previous victims who had been rescued.

The ring allegedly lured girls from Thailand and neighbouring countries into prostitution.

Police transferred the rescued girls to Ban Pakkred Home pending their investigation, including alleged passport and document forgery.

  9. Even the EC said vote buying is a problem, but understandable at the same time. Most Bangkokians don't realise just how poor many people in this country are. 500 or even 200 baht can make a difference to them. Having said that, the wealthy should not criticize them when they prefer to pay the bribe to a cop 200 baht rather then the 500 baht at the station for a traffic violation. The problem is that the poor are generally less educated about the effect of populist policies on the economy. They may make some short term gain (many rice farmers might disagree), but the government ends up in the red at the end of the day. The rice scam is a fine example. I bet all workers are still not getting 15K a month and most P1 students still do not have their tablets. Those kinds of policies were just another form of vote buying because they were directed at fast financial gain for a large portion of the voting population. The problem is that none of these policies are debated in front of a national audience before an election. Then people can decide if a short financial gain is really better than a major loss over the following few years.

Police is encouraging people to pay on spot rather than going to police station by taking the license away. If you have to go to police station for a mere traffic ticket every single time, you waste too much of your time. Police sould not take away drivers license and offenders should be able to pay fines at banks, 7-11, etc.

  10. That may be democracy but democracy is not about ignoring opinion of minorities. I highly doubt that she has been listning to the minority opinion. This is the reason for ongoing conflict and people have not confidence on her correcting her attitude.

  11. "I’m here because my duty as caretaker prime minister until new government is elected. Cannot say I just step down. Using vote in election is the best way."

What part of this is so difficult to you yellow supporters? Instead of some weird "reforms", led by a totally crooked politician and postponing of elections.

If the yellows had a believable and fair program for the rural Thais, they are not stupid, and would vote for the yellows but they do not. Instead the only solution for them is voting for the reds whose leaders are about as corrupted as the yellow ones. At least they do SOMETHING for them, instead of total disregard inside Bangkok bubble by the yellow leaders.

The arrogant yellows have nothing but contempt to offer. For them, the rural Thais are subhumans, not really worth of anything.
